PL D FA Premier League

Chelsea 1:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Yes...yes I do want them to go toe to toe with the team we've beaten several times and finished ahead of over the past couple seasons. And if we lose 5-0 then we are only 1 point worse off than we are today. We are way too reactionary. Man for man we should not be afraid of Chelsea. Sure, we can lose to them but we can also beat them. I'd rather see us go for 3 points then this crap football...

We beat Chelsea under Lampard a few times, it’s not really comparative. We are coming off a 4-1 loss to Watford.

It’s not about man to man, it’s about the fact Chelsea are clearly so much better coached and so much more confident. If we played that way in the last game of the season, then I’d be worried.

edit. Oh yeah and we had three of our back four out.

Are people really complaining about the performance?

Considering the form we've been in, 3 of the first choice back 4 out and having no manager that's a good result and a decent defensive performance.

Some will never be happy no matter who the manager is.

Starting to realise plenty on here are just moaners, no matter what's happening, some will be constantly miserable.

Apart from his brain dead moment, Fred played well. Bruno was by far our worst outfield player.

Great result. Always tough going to Stamford Bridge. Hopefully can follow it up with a win next week.

Shame about the chip at the end but other than that thought Fred was quality. Easily MoTM. Gets far too much stick on here.

Bringing Ronaldo on was a mistake. Felt like he was bought on just because he has to play, didn't make much sense considering our gameplan. Also winds me up how he goes straight down the tunnel after every game.

Good job Sancho went alone, looks like Rashford was always offside.

Feels like both Lindelof and Bailly are putting a decent case forward to start ahead of Maguire when he’s back.

Won away in Spain and won us the group then got a point away at the team top of the league.

Considering the fecking mess we are I'd say he's exceeded expectations.

People are fecking idiots. 2 tough away games, 2 positive results, he has done fine, if anyone expected a reinvented wheel in 7 days they need to wake up.

Thought the game showed the limitations of Chelsea (and maybe also of the whole German pressing thing).

A lot of energy, lots of things happening all the time, suffocating to play against, sometimes pretty patterns. But on the creative side, not much. Klopp's early Dortmund (a much more reckless team) seemed to have more forward options when passing, while here the emphasis seems to be on winning the ball back and ... the goals will just fall into place?

Night and day vs what City do, even though Pep is often put alongside Klopp and Tuchel. Their possession vs PSG (comparable to the first half here) led to a *lot* of chances, and it was obvious they had trained a lot on how to manufacture those chances. In general also, so many of their goals are like assembly line products: overload around a fullback, cutback, goal.
Whereas Chelsea today profited off a few mistakes which DDG saved, got a very lucky penalty, and didn't really create too many chances, not even that many dangerous crossing positions, nothing in behind the defence.

Nothing but luck really.
We only got to score because of a mistake by jorgihno (who was so dominant in midfield all alone despite RLC losing the ball countless times).
Done feck all throughout the match, shit tactics, horrible defending and passing.
So lucky because Tuchel decided to start with fecking werner and chelsea players forgetting how to finish today.
17 corners or so for chelsea, over 70% possession, they pressed us easily, won every single second ball etc

Even with a new manager these players will take a long time to start doing basic things like pressing correctly, hopefully defend better and impose a better character on the pitch cause right now they are far from that.

Looking at some comments, did people really expect us with the crap form were in to turn up at the home of the European champions and possibly best team in the world, without 3 of our first choice defence, and try and throw the kitchen sink at them?? Honestly, that draw is an exceptional result all things considered.

Some of you are so irritating. Thank God you'll never step foot in Old Trafford.

Club is at its lowest ebb, no manager, Carrick trying to keep it together and zero player confidence.

Getting a positive result at top of the table Chelsea away from home and you're still moaning. Feck off

Very well said.

Arsenal is trash. Nothing to be concerned about.
They are. But right now so are we. Top will not be easy this year. Our squad is obviously miles better than theirs but we need to cut down to the gap now.

Full credits to Carrick and the players today. He took the right approach and a brave, spot on decision to bench Ronaldo. The playes fought incredibly hard, it's been a while they have showed that. And it's never a pen.

Good result but feels like could have won that. Silly by AWB and thought Ronaldo slowed our play down a lot

Dont think Chelsea really threatened us and had one or two good chances.

Stupid bringing on Ronaldo when we were starting to get hold of the game. Really dumb unless Sancho was out of gas or took a knock. Felt like a pre-decided sub to give him 30. Jess was offside?
They said Jadon had a knock, but still I would not have brought Ronnie on, having watched previous 60 minutes. It would have been Jesse or Mason, but not Ronnie. The game was very intense and Cristiano is not the animal he used to be. As for Jesse being offside, do not know. Looked like Fred had enough time to play him onside, but he hesitated and then there was that magnificent chip, Cantona-esque. :(

Hell of a stretch to choose this weekend to make a criticism of “the whole German pressing thing” considering how easily the goals are flowing for Liverpool right now.

We totally stole that draw.
Would have been great if we’d nicked it for the three points, but in truth, we should have been buried by Chelsea.
The new manager has got a big job to do with this team.
He can’t do it with some of the players we’ve got. Including one or two of the “fan’s favourites “.
At least most of them are fighting for the badge again.

Draw is a good result considering our complete lack of creativity and inability to pass or tackle (most of the time anyway)

I thought Fred had a good game present throughout the field, only time he shouldn’t be present was when he made that attempted chip.

Thought Matic played well too showing composure most of the time bringing the ball out of defence in second half.

Sancho substitution was due to injury, or precaution to a more serious injury, not tactical.

Probably a bit lucky to come away with a draw. Good result for us under the circumstances.

I hate that penalty call. Thiago makes no attempt on the ball. Suppose AWB did save a goal though

Our fullbacks are atrocious. Really no confidence with them on the ball. AWB is incredibly slow to play the ball, and Telles’ decision making is terrible.

The fact that Fred is praised here as our best player is just a comment about how far we have to go to get organized and develop an identity.

No point in being annoyed at the set up. It was the only way we were going to get anything from this game. A spirited performance and rode our luck a bit. The midfield in particular worked hard after a really sloppy start.

Something missing about Chelsea and it's hard to say what considering they're an outstanding team. Just feel Liverpool and City have something 'more' about them, again I don't know what.

Thought we did better in the second half, lots of passion and spirit.

Bailly, Lindelof, and the midfield 3 all did well.

I actually enjoyed the second half, first time I've said that for a while

Incredibly happy with the result. Great effort by a team that is clearly having ton of problems. Penalty was total bullshit, if you ask me, but we didn't deserve to win so whatever. Happy with what we got.

Would love the energy to last one more game so we can win over Arsenal and then hopefully we will start turning into a proper team that doesn't rely on luck and mood.

Wtf? We were shite. How can I see it any differently? Was our performance some kind of optical illusion that I just don't get?
We weren’t half as shite as we have nearly all season. We have an inexperienced interim interim manager and a team very very low on confidence away to one of the top teams in the league. We weren’t fantastic but moaning about the performance is weird.

Everyone knows we’re in a very deep trough. I’d say we’re just beginning to climb out of it but there’s a long way to go. In that context nobody should be disappointed with today’s performance or result. We were mainly terrible but we’ve been far worse.

That was rough, pleased with the point. Nice finish from Sancho. Plenty of work to do going forward.

Starting to realise plenty on here are just moaners, no matter what's happening, some will be constantly miserable.
Think some thought we would get hammered then they could really let rip, we got a good point under the circumstances, but let's have a moan anyway.

Yes mad man Bailly had a good game.
I think he played better with Lindelof instead of Maguire. Lindelof likes to cover for him, while Maguire is more of frontfoot CB, which is similar to Bailly.

On paper, he and Varane would be compatible, as Varane's is closer to Lindelof than Maguire.

Decent point

Chelsea the better team but disappointed we didn’t win in the end

Good result and we looked better defensively , even though 3 of our first choice defenders were out. I think Bruno needs to be given some time on the bench and other like VDB given a run in team. Let's see what RR does , hopefully he is in th dugout before the next match.

They are much better team with mount and lukaku versus Loftus cheek and Warner.

Would always take a point away to Chelsea, we were 2nd best today but we worked really hard and capitalised on a bad defensive error.

Hope to see more of this pressing game from the team, it still needs loads of work but we forced the goal from it and I think it’s the way to go, it should get better with Ralf Ragnick in charge.

We survived this match. We got 1 point in a game our opponent had enough chances to get a confortable win but that's the beauty of football: it is só difficult to score that keeping yourself focus might bring a good end result.
