Could be a turning point.

Hard fought win, backs to the walls especially at the end. Feels like we've not had a win like that for a long while and it's these sort of games that you simply HAVE to win.

De Gea performance is a large part of why we were the better team. I've never understood why a keeper's performance is judged almost independently from that of the team. So many posts (not yours to be fair,) seem to be portraying as us lucky; it's not luck - we paid top dollar for a great young keeper, who in turn makes us a better team.

In a good day we should be able to win without needing de gea to save the day. Of course we bought a top goal keeper to do just that, but we should always aim to stop the opposition creating clear cut chances.

The goal keeper is like a doctor, the less you need to see him the better.

That's a good analogy.

we need to work on how to hold on to a lead. As a team we are great going forward and making chances. But if we are expected to defend a lead...we look vulnerable.

Having said that, I thought our defence was decent overall. The two CBs were pretty sound.

We actually fought back and got a 2nd goal, whereas, in previous games once they equalised we would have crumbled.

Can't wait to watch a repeat telecast. Missed the game :(

Does sound like we're finally gaining a bit of traction!
Yeah we were in control in the 1st half and could of been 2 or 3 up then De Gea saved a pen before HT. 2nd half was a bit more even but we were the better team for 75/80 mins and then the DDG show started :D

Overall there was some great performances De Gea aside Rafa was excellent so was ADM, blind looked good and Rojo/McNair looked solid. Valencia did a job in there, but surely Fellaini has to be sold in January as we have Carrick, Valencia to step in if Herrera is missing. Glad we took the 3 points as that is all that matters and as soon as our Forwards start finding their form we will be amazing.

We're an upper-ish mid table team with potential to improve.

Gonna be a roller-coaster.

Upper-ish midtable? Really?! Didn't we ever have nervy finishes during Fergie when we were winning league titles after league titles?

My reading is that we lacked a bit of concentration upfront, as the first half they didn't create a chance and we could/should have been out of sight.

We let them in @ the last 10-15 minutes, and it's normal with a team that is yet to gel and has some important players out. Players like Rooney, Carrick, Herrera and the 2 starting CB's.

The undroppable RVP problem looks like it might become a worry. It seemed so counter productive to take Falcao off when he was getting chances and had just got off the mark.

We'll wait and see.

Thinking the exact same thing....LVG needs to stop playing favorites. Falcao should be finishing matches...we need him to get going.

He was out of form before this. He is a world class goalkeeper and for his standards he wasn't having brilliant days..
Bar the West Ham goal it was hard to blame him for any. In the last 20 mins at Leicester he was let down by his defense, anyway he was superb yesterday

He was poor on the opening day against Swansea and against MK Dons and Leicester, he conceded 9 from 11 shots - he's been nowhere near his best.

Yesterday though, he was absolutely sensational - a world class goalkeeper, bailing us out time and again. That's the level we've come to expect.

I know right, I can't remember the last time we had to defend for our lives at old trafford to hold on to a slender lead.

Well it was convenient last season that we didn't have a lead to defend most of the time so we didn't have many games like this.

I believe how time passes things will look better and better, until then these types of wins will do world of good for us.We will get there,no doubt about that.

In the last phase of the game, we want to keep the ball but you can see that we put other players only in bad positions where they have to hoof it up. Once we become more settled and better on the ball, I hope we can control games better after we took the league. Other than that, again some very promising football played. I justfeel that RvP shouldnt be a guaranteed starter - he's not bringing the best out of the team

I get the feeling Falcao can't play a full 90minutes at the moment.

When we conceded that goal, my emotions took a dive. Was expecting the worst.
Seeing Falcao's goal made me a very happy man.

So a keeper who plays consistently & doesn't make any errors is out of form unless he makes world class saves?
For me there's been nothing wrong with his form this season, he's not been spectacular. Go see City or Liverpool, for a keeper who's been in & out of form this season, De Gea hasn't looked as insecure as either of their keepers.

We all love him but his form this season is not been great... Glad he is gradually getting back to his brilliant self...

Great result but easily could have thrown the win away at the end. McNair doesn't look out of his depth which is really encouraging. I was a bit disappointed by how we moved the ball; there were a few neat interchanges but overall I felt that each player was taking far too many touches.

It's weird - I should, really, be incredibly annoyed by how we went to complete shit in that last 10/15 minutes... but, because we got the win, because it was such a relief after how tense/nerve-wracking it was, and because DDG made one of the best saves I've ever seen, I find it hard to get that annoyed about it.

Sometimes, through whatever United are doing, football is just fecking entertaining... and yesterday was one of those days. I think I'll remember that stoppage time for years to come, and those sort of memories are why you watch football in the first place.

Not that I want us to do this every week mind...

Have finally seen it :D

Thought we defended collectively a lot better. There wasn't as much direct pressure onto the back line though that increased as the second half went on. So glad we responded with another goal after crappy defending let Naismith in with that header. Still concerned that we seem to lose our calm on the ball during the final 101-15 minutes. Glad we got the win though! Didn't expect Valencia to be part of a midfield 3 and am glad he had a decent showing. Have some gripes over Mata but I'll save that for his thread.

I'm really looking forward to see Rooney come for RvP, and be behind Mata and Falcão (mostly because of his workrate), with Mata floating having Radamel as the lone striker.

Falcão gets on every ball thrown at the box, it's amazing. When he starts connecting those, it will be hell unleashed. One already was.

All of this 'United got all three points, yet they should have had none' talk is severely misjudged. Yes, De Gea made crucial saves at the end, but as LVG said, we could have been three goals up after that first half. We battered them for a large portion of the game. Naturally, that was forgotten due to DDG's heroics at the end.

Absolutely. We dominated everton yesterday. Inability to put away chances and being too open towards the end made it a closer game than it ever should have been. He level of peformance and control was actually very good for most of the game.

In the 70th min when they showed the shot statistics and we were like 14-4 up. I don't know why we panicked so much after that - wrong passes, unable to hold the ball, shit decisions.

Crazy. I honestly think we're going to take those chances and put eight goals past somebody very soon.

I do think we need to consider how poor Everton were yesterday....

Lukaku especially looked disinterested and Rojo and McNair had an easy time

the one time they looked anyway threatening was on set pieces where we need a leader in that defence

Vidic/Stam version 2 required asap

They were even worse against Liverpool and managed to get a point.

Please... he was not the De Gea we knew. Some of the goals imo were questionable. There is this thing on this forum were you HAVE to defend De Gea no matter what. I remember his first season here when we was making terrible mistakes and people even defended him for that saying how it's the defenders fault for blocking his view etc etc...

De Gea is a world class goal keeper and after Di Maria is probably our best player in the squad and he's also still 23 so he's not going to have the consistency of a very seasoned goal keeper - he'll have some off days and there's nothing wrong in mentioning that.

Yeah but the final 15-20 minutes I thought it was going to end up in a draw for sure. It just felt like one of those matches we've been seeing for the past year.

Surprised at how bad Everton were. Our defence is there for the taking and they didn't offer much up. I know they've got a lot of injuries as well but we they were pretty awful. Nearly 30 million for Lukaku ffs.

Had no discussions on here about him, but I was thinking that he wasn't getting near some of the shots going in, or defending his 6 yard box effectively.
Let's hope it was just a slow start, from our most consistent performer of the last couple of years.
