It is posts like these that make no sense. Even when the team does not play ultra defensively, the same old terms like "defensive methods" "park the bus" "playing for a draw" keeps getting thrown around.
It is as if some people don't watch any matches and just keep reading some kind of rhetoric about Jose in media.

The other day against Bournemouth, we were getting split open every few minutes and someone posted that Jose's defensive methods were causing it. Huh??

Couldn’t agree more. Last night wasn’t a park the bus performance. Jose got his tactics spot on. We didn’t win that game for parking the bus for 80 mins as he posted. Parking the bus is having all your 11 players behind the ball with no one in opposition half which we didn’t. We kept our shape well and when our chances arose, we took them.

To be fair, I thought Utd played very well. No major stand out player, but you played as team brilliantly and it is clear that Mou has the confidence of the dressing room, the effort and performances they have been putting in recently are impressive.

Lingard was a bit off, but he's just coming back from injury. Lindelof who has had a lot of grief on these forums looks like he is maturing into the position really well. Matic even had a better game than he has recently, off the ball his positioning to drop back and help contain Ronnie was really effective on the ball he is still rusty but that will come.

From a neutral point of view in that first half you played pretty much toe to toe with Juve, you had a serious wobble after their goal (which was amazing) but then the structure and team ethic quickly came back and you kept pushing right to the end. Mata's free kick looked like it had been worked on in training and the second goal, well every team in the world needs some luck at some point.

The point is that that was a proper United performance against one of the best in Europe, where the vast majority of teams get beat. Players who people had thought had fallen out with Mou like Martial and Shaw were brilliant and everyone on that pitch worked for the team.

There are so many positives to take from that game.

Best team performance in a long time. Positive attitude, good cohesion. Lindelof improving (at least when he's not being bullied by a more physical forward), Lingard finding space, Sanchez working hard and providing mobility up front (which makes a change from punting it for long Lukaku to miss). Of course Juve had chances, of course there was some luck - they are a very accomplished team, and posters on here who seem to think we can't be good unless we dominate matches like this are deluded.Now, if someone can just buy Pogba a brain for Christmas…..

Since the anti-United brigade (we know who they are), the people who derive pleasure from negativity and poor results, and who think the grass is always greener elsewhere seem to have made this into a d*ck measuring contest and can't simply enjoy the win over a European powerhouse.

Not a game to change many people's minds I suspect. There was plenty of stuff to be positive about imo. We carried the ball out of defense much more progressively than we were at the start of the season, and looked poised when we were defending. Yeah Juve made us sweat at times, but theyre a good team so you expect pressure at some point. Our movement and ball retention was really good in deeper areas for most of the game and we were much easier on the eye than last season's typical play. Thought Sanchez was a big improvement on Lukaku in terms of movement and Martial seems to be having his best run of form under Jose, even defending well as well as moving forward.

On the other hand we still look really blunt up front. Unless Shaw and/or Pogba can work a chance for Martial with a one-two, we dont seem to have many ideas. I wouldnt expect chance after chance away to Juve, but to my eyes attacks seemed to break down because of our poor decision making or lack of players making runs rather than robust defending from them. Its particularly frustrating this season watching Ashley Young break into space on the right hand side and then seem to spend an age figuring out what to do. If you watch City in particular, if the ball gets into either channel, everyone knows exactly where to go, so the player on the ball just needs to concentrate on the pass. When Young gets on the ball every time he's having to work out who's there, who's marked, what positions people are in, whose coming late, etc and by the time he makes the cross either the moment passes or he just shanks the cross because he has so much more to think about. Feels like that's a matter of coaching that the players aren't getting.

I feel like Lingard summed up our performance yesterday. When we were bringing the ball out of defense into midfield Lingard was doing some great work, wtih some really interesting runs to make space to recieve the ball, and then often carrying the ball a long way to start attacks. On the other hand, once he got 45 yards from goal he suddenly appeared completely clueless, and usually ended up just gifting the ball back to Juve. In terms of overall performance, that was true for the team as well as the player.

Still, at least we had a night to enjoy rather than another night of frustration. We'll need to be a lot better still to get something this weekend, but we've shown that we have fighting spirit whatever other limitations this team has, so I think we can be confident that the team will stand up to the occasion. Whether this is the level of performance we should expect in Jose's third season, well, I'm still not sure, but at least it gives us some hope for the next stage of the season.

You don't understand. We will definitely concede a goal atleast against these teams because our defense can't keep a clean sheet. But if Fellaini starts in place of Matic, I bet the likes of Juve and City wouldn't have so many shots on target.

Mourinho set us up well and had to make do with the absence of Fellaini, which compromised his defensive structure and let to Juve dominating a bit. It was a Mourinho Masterclass for sure.

Why would you expect Fellaini to replace Matic? If he ever starts, Herrera is far more likely to make way than one of Mourinho's most trusted lieutenants.

Also, why would swapping Matic for Fellaini help with our defensive structure? It's the one thing Fellaini is unarguably bad at. Playing him as a defensive midfielder is almost always a terrible idea, no matter how poor Matic has been for a while now.

United went to Turin, went toe to toe with the most dominant Juventus side in history and came away with the win. After everything this summer and the start of this season, finally we are seeing the Manchester United those of us who are fans of the club love.

For the young ones, the bitter ones, the ones pretending to be United fans, they don't understand. Someone asked what is United about, what does United stand for or words to that effect in a thread a few weeks ago, and last night epitomised exactly what United are about.

For those of us who have remained pro Mourinho, last night showed us why, the desire and belief of the players, the managers emotion at the end. There is a belief in this bunch that hasn't been seen for years. It's been growing over the past few weeks. It's even starting to pull some of those who had lost faith in him back over.

Football is about emotion, it's won and lost in moments. Leave the stats, the in-depth analysis and the boring stuff to the pundits and the dullards.

Rode our luck at 1-0 down, which you have to do in Europe (think back to the '99 final and the amount of missed chances Bayern had to seal it).

Crucially though, we stayed in the game. Enjoyed a lot of possession, didn't park the bus and kept going right until the death. Jose got the substitutions bang on, this one is on him!

The celebrations for Mata's goal, the fans, Jose at full time, I love all of that. It's us against everyone else, and on the quiet Jose is building a very strong mentality in the changing room, he's got the players playing for him at last and using the negative ABU media to his advantage.

Of course, we can't get carried away, and there's a good chance that we will be humbled at City on Sunday. But it certainly feels like we've turned a corner in the last few weeks.

I have to admit that I didn’t think we would get anything from last night. Just shows what sport is all about. Media will try and dilute the result of course whilst building up City cos they scored 6 ( first on Silva knew nothing about and second the most dodgy penalty ever given them Shaktar gave up).

Away at CL favourites in Italy and winning is magnificent whether it was attractive or not. Away at Huddersfield and losing isn’t so let’s hope it doesn’t happen this season.
