And me but that isn't the way to go about it.

It is literally the way to go about it. Beat the big teams at home, draw at their place.

I swear some of you have wiped the whole Fergie era from your memories. Drawing tough away games against title rivals was a hallmark of most of our title-winning campaigns. What’s really odd about this memory loss is that we saw Fergie at his most pragmatic (most Mourinho-like, if you will) in his mor recent (and most succesful) years in charge. So you’re not being asked to recall stuff from the dim and distant past!

It could very well be. City slaughtered them 5 (I know it was at City) while we don't even try to attack. Results like this against mid table teams cost us big last season.

Wrong again. It was our home results against mid to lower table teams that were the big issue last season.

Pool had 10 men in that game - before they had a man sent off it was very even and Salah had caused them some real problems. City also drew with Everton who we spanked 4-0 so there is zero point in looking at equivalent games/results. Drawing away at Anfield never has and never will be a result that costs us the league.

They aren't a big team they are a mid table team. They might push themselves into the top 4 once in a blue moon but more often than not they are 6th or 7th at best.

No one can defend Jose today. Poor attitude, poor tactics. At least give it a proper go, especially after mentioning the same in the presser
Exactly. Especially given the fact that we are the better team. If they had a better team it would still be justifiable. But for me today was unacceptable.

Come on. That’s pure bollox and you know it. Look at their recent record against the other teams we’re competing with for CL slots

Still seems like Mourinho doesnt trust the team fully yet. Especially when we are missing the likes of Pogba (and Fellaini!)

As most have said on here, a point is not a bad result. We've always struggled at anfield, regardless of the manager. Even under Fergie it was much the same. People have short memories.

They are a top four team with a top manager. Let's not kid ourselves that they are some sort of anonymous mid table side who are currently overachieving when that's clearly not the case.

Will take the point even if the performance was typical us at Anfield.

Knew we wouldnt score when Miki went off and Lingard came on and knew they wouldnt score when Sturridge and Chamberlain came on.

Stupid international break robbing us of momentum and players .

Thank goodness for De Gea.

The last 8 seasons they have finished second once forth once sixth twice seventh twice eighth twice.
That's 6 of the last 8 seasons they have finished 6th or worse.

Where did they finish last year ? That's all the matters in the present.

Not 6 out of the last 8 seasons they haven't been.

Well I get everyone's upset at that woeful performance. Mou setup to defend just outside the box. The pressing from front line was pathetic, all they did was to run from left to right with Liverpool's defenders and retreat no pressure at all, offering Liverpool all the time to choose a pass and still they couldn't beat us.
To setup to defend (tactics) is one thing but to not even try to counter is even worse, just lumping the ball forward, pathetic. If this is the way Mou wants to setup for our big games, then the title could be halfway to City by the end of October, with Chelsea leading the chase. As I have heard many a time, you can't win a title in October but you sure can loose one. Liverpool was there for the taking, Spurs and Chelsea won't be.
Sorry for the rant but really hated what I saw today, what even makes it worse is City-Stoke 7-2 and they to had players on international duty too but they showed a desire to win.

No where they are now is all that matters. Last year is as much history as the 7 seasons before it.

Last year is relevant since they are in the CL, which speaks to their quality since they finished 7 points ahead of us. The years before that are generally less meaningful to the discussion.

Good result. Jose's tactics were spot on. I can accept that he set up to draw for 2 reasons.

1. Injuries. I think derbies are the games where injuries are the most likely. We played to avoid injuries to our players because at the moment, we don't have much cover. An injury to matic, lukaku or jones could end our title aspirations.

2. Complacency. Yes, if we attacked liverpool, we could beat them 4-0. If this happened, the confidence of the team could skyrocket. But I think that this more often than not leads to overconfidence and complacency. In this first half of the season, overconfidence is fatal. What we need is to keep grinding out victories and draws like this, while maintaining touching distance of the title. This keeps the team on their toes and alert for every game. I believe that is also what fergie used to do, which is why United used to be notoriously slow starters. In fact, I can't remember a single moment under fergie where a draw at anfield was a bad result, no matter how badly or negatively we played.

We drew, its over. Let's move on, the title is still on.

I can accept a point at Anfield, but your second reason for us setting this way doesn't make sense at all.

Are you aware that Chelsea lost 2-1 at Crystal Palace today?

Not overly despondent about result. We didn't lose so I don't have to hermetically seal myself off from football media for rest of weekend.
Bit disturbed by The Neville though. What is his problem?

I think Nev's too worried about being seen as a pro-United supporter and overthinking it. Carragher is obviously a liverpool fan but I still think that he's a decent pundit. I think that as a pundit, he's brought on because he's a United man. As long as he doesn't go overboard and go completely off his rocker i.e. Jamie Redknapp, I think he'd be fine tbh.
I have no idea how you think United could beat Liverpool 4-0 if United attacked. Mourinho doesn’t open up because he isn’t as dumb as Wenger and the others. If Mourinho opened up I’m confident we would score at least two goals.

I said that we 'could', it was just a possibility. Its equally likely that we could have lost 2-0 or 4-0 to liverpool, or the game could have ended 3-2 or 4-3. But that was completely NOT the point.

The point was that Jose played for a draw and under the circumstances, it was acceptable. Don't ignore my entire post and just nitpick on a throwaway point.

Not as relevant as this season though as that accounts for current form in which they have won a single game in 8 matches.

They are a decent team who are playing in CL. And they played like it where their Cup final.

I thought we were appalling 2nd half. The passing was terrible and we weren't even trying to attack. 1st half we looked like we were following a plan where as 2nd half was just shit.

Still it's a good result really, I'd have liked to have seen more ambition in the last 20 minutes but whatever. A point at Anfield is never a bad thing.

We've still had a fantastic start to the season.

So now you’ve gone from the last 6-7 Years to dwelling on the the first few games of this year. Make up your mind.

I still think the last 8 years shows a teams long term quality but if you want to go current form then that backs up my point too.
