Absolute shit. I understand the tactic of sitting deep. But this was horrid. Herrera was awful, second half I don't think he completed one of his long passes. Matic look knackered.

I'm not happy with that point. I would have been happy with a point, if we defended well, tried to play a little. But I'm not happy with that point. Feels like a loss. Can't believe I waited two weeks for that shit match.

Other the DDG, Smalling and Jones. Everyone was shit. I expect more, simple as that.

Fair points but the deficiency showed today big time. Jose captured it well, we were over run in the midfield especially in the second half. Unfortunately, there were no significant midfield sub's in terms of physicality which was the plus Can and Henderson had over our midfield. Add to that, Miki's worrying tendency to be inconsistent and not assertive enough in big games.

Yes im completely baffled as to why people expect us to go to anfield and dominate. When have we ever done that? The only time was when Mata had his double and stevie G got sent off.

Other than that, we have always struggled at anfield. Dont forget, historically we have always smashed the dippers at OT. Lets wait for the return leg and im sure you will see a much different approach.

A game in which we spent the last 15-20 minutes under the cosh, despite our man advantage.

I'm not blaming Mourinho....who didn't think he'd park the bus? Fergie did it all the time and I hated it as I still do but Fergies teams would hit them on the counter where as today we were absolute dog shite with the ball.

Player gets ball, hoofs it forward to no one. My ex's 11 year olds soccer team does the same thing.

Lukaku was never going to get the service today and the one great chance he got, he bottled it.....Griezman would of scored that ;)

A point at Anfield is a fair result but the overall play was horrendous. Pool deserved the win. Ashley Young on the left? Ffs....sell him already.

You can't honestly think that we came in to this game with the right tactics or mentality, They didn't outplay us so we were forced to play as deep as we were and when we won the ball we hit it for god and country towards Lukaku and hoped for the best. Awful football.
Like an engine room in a great liner. Smelly. Grimy as feck. Churning it out. Just left port. We have liftoff. Jose on his way to a title, or damn fecking close to it. Thrills on the way. Magic moments on the way. Stoke away. Dippers away. Dour football on the way. Spills on the way. Support the team. Have a nice day.

We just played one of the most difficult away fixtures of the season with Pogba, Fellaini, Bailly, Zlatan, Rojo and Carrick all out injured, and we won a point. That in the first game after the internationals, which is always a factor. People need some perspective, winning at Anfield was hard enough even when Sir Alex was here, i would have taken a point before the match.

If offered a point for all the away fixtures against the big 6, I'd take it in a heartbeat. Relax, we'll give them a spanking at Old Traford, their time will come.

Okay with the result at Anfield and with all our injuries. We did not play well but again with the injuries especially in midfield did not expect a great performance.

Good post. To be fair, the midfield was the difference today.

Mourinho is known for his strong start to the season. It was a trademark of all his previous title-winning teams. Fergie once said that he had to change his approach because of that and prevent him to make huge distance until December.

Don't really see how would trashing Liverpool today hurt us philologically. You naturally try to win every game, especially big ones because you would want as much confidence in your team.
One thing I also don't agree is that Mourinho wanted to park the bus for the whole game. We didn't look so bad at the start, playing with a high defensive line and we tried to impose ourselves. The big problem in today's game was that our players couldn't make a simple pass and got worse as the game went on, eventually inviting more pressure on us. I think that seeing that he decided to close the store and take a point.

This is what drives up the wall to no end....these are Man Utd players and at times they look fecking kids out there with their static shite movement and passes. You can see the difference between the two clubs today when all the ball.

Granted he would have been handy in a midfield 3 today. He'd never be in my United first team if we had everyone fit.
Even if everyone was fit, Fellaini would have been in the team today, so that makes him a first team player now.

We really missed him today - just admit it ;)

Happy enough with a point at Anfield anytime.

As long as we don't play like that in the return fixture at OT I think I'm ok with it.

But there weren't being asked to dominate the midfield, we came in with the plan to concede possession but I don't think asking Herrera and Mkhitaryan to be more careful with the ball was too much to ask? There were opportunities on the break that were just squandered through needlessly giving away possession with silly passes.

That is the whole point of high pressing is to force the midfeilder to pass it wider sideways so that you dont pass to the penetrative player or find a penetrative pass. They pressed in 3 v2 and 2v 1 situations and the midfeilders have to either pass the ball sideways or punt it long to beat the pressure. You cant expect herrera to suddenly play like modric or kroos or scholes , and nither matic to be like keane.

Then comes mkh's job to make good runs in space and link up with herrera and matic so that he pegs the high pressure and finds penetration which we rarely saw. MKh is much to blame here and so is your ball circulation.

Obviously gutted we didn't win it but given how the game went, particularly second half I'll take a point.

It was a game of chess really, I thought we played OK first half and kept the crowd quiet, only had the one real chance with Lakaku but the goal keeper does well. Brilliant save from De Gea to keep them out. They had a few more half chances but fairly even I thought in terms of controlling the game.

Second half, as Jose has said, they outnumbered us a bit in the middle and had a bit more power. As the game went on that became a bit more obvious but was proud of how our lads scrapped and kept their shape.

Thought we missed Pogba massively, when you go to places like Anfield you need players who are confident enough to take the ball but given the make up of their midfield, you need to drive them back as well. Matic and Herrera are slightly deeper players as well. Miki was obviously in their to do that job but with Coutinho playing fairly central as well their power made a difference and stopped us getting between the lines. Struggled to keep the ball second half as a result.

At this stage of the season, a point there isn't a bad result and we'll move on. Not ideal circumstances but thought it was more difficult for us to take the game to Liverpool. Klopp was afraid to lose it, injuries made it tough for us to really play through them.

Hope we never play like this again. We must try and attack the opposition whilst playing away from home. Are we going to do this with every top 6 side we meet. Then forget about the Premiership this season. Herrera has gone back so much it is unbelievable. His passing was inexcusable.

We will have to have help for matic in games like this and Herrera is not the man. Our 2 full backs need to be able to move up field and cross the ball, and our 2 wingers should be able to beat their man at least once. Terrible Terrible display.

I get why Jose parked the bus there last season when they were in great form and we were playing shite. This season it was the opposite way round yet same result. Simply bizarre tactics.

I probably one of a few people who hate not to get 3 points against Liverpool no matter how bad we play. I can still deal with it against City, Chelsea and etc. I was hoping we could get that O'Shea memorable moment again today. I remembered we weren't that good in that game but O'Shea was still able to score a late winner.

I don’t know if the tactics could necessarily legislate for the woeful passing on display. So many basic errors committed by our players across the whole pitch.

Also in the process Jose has got Klopp even more agitated than usual.

Feeling the pressure. Honeymoon period is over for him. Yet his record is worse than rodgers

We got the point at binfield today. Didnt lose which is important. Hopefully we can beat the "easier" teams away from home this season because those are the results that win titles.

They are an awful team to play against. De Gea is ridiculous, don't need to beat them to win a title thankfully.

Awful approach.

It's not even counter attacking by Jose any more. It's set up shop and look completely DEVOID of any attacking threat. To top it off, Jose takes out the attacker most likely to create something to make sure Young can offer support to Valencia.

I hate our approach in the big games. Only positive today was the point, but we looked awful.

I've noticed that really good managers adapt the immediate gameplan not only for the current game but also for the next game as well. SAF does this and so does Mourinho. This is not cowardice. This is a long term chess game in 3D. We've just come from a international break and are having injuries in some really major areas. We needed to adapt our game to that today and beyond. We can't afford to have any more injuries and we needed players to shake off any rustiness. I'm pretty sure the players today were advised not to push themselves beyond a certain limit. We also needed to retain the players for use in more crucial matches. We have an away CL game coming up in just 4 days and then another one 2 days after that. That's a very tight and draining schedule.

Pushing players to go all out today after a certain point in this game might have been disastrous if we were to lose any more players or tire them out because they over-committed. Which is probably why Mata didn't play and Martial was substituted or also probably why Mourinho kept Martial from playing when we were leading Southampton 1-0 because of the CSKA Moscow game. He never uses players unnecessarily if he can help it. Availability gives him opportunities to plan better. Some games are always going to be a little more boring than others but in the end it's really good for us because it's the smart play.

Even if everyone was fit, Fellaini would have been in the team today, so that makes him a first team player now.

I've already admitted missing him today. However, that's only due to lack of options in the middle. :smirk:

That is why i wanted mctominay to play instead of mkhitaryan. Others thpught it was a bad idea because liverpool defense was weak and they thought we were going to thrash them

Its a desperate liverpool at anfield. We wont be dominating them there.

In my opinion we should have played a 3 men cm with young as lb, mctominay in midfield and mkhitaryan on the flank. 4-2-3-1 is useless if you lose the midfield

It's not about dominating.

It's about having intent to attack.

It's about having intent to attack.

Its liverpool at anfield + without key players (bailly, pogba, ibra, rashford). Its naive to think that we could have had a clear intent attack unless we had our share of midfield domination

We've been without Ibra the entire season.

Martial is better than Rashford.

Pogba is an obvious miss.

I don't think we really miss Bailly going by his wobbly form this season imo.

Pro's

Picked Up a point away at a difficult place against a title rival
Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool drop points
No more injuries
Still 2 points off the top of the league and 3 points clear of 3rd place Spurs

Con's

Boring, Pragmatic Display
Squad looks thin in its current state

I felt we were 2nd best on the day and deserved nothing from the game. I think Mourinho's post game comments about the midfield, were indicative of my feelings as well. Midfield looks thin with both Fellani and Pogba out. In the end its a point, in our first true test of the season. Next week we have a nice bounce-back game vs. Huddersfield before the trips to Spurs/Chelsea. It could be better, but it also could be worse.

Against Stoke even the likes of felliani or lingard would do. You miss quality when you need it

Also bailly > chris hodor

We din't have all the players available and I think we should be satisfied with it. Tbh Chelsea and Arsenal lost their games, Tottnham is still behind us and we can get those 2 points back vs City. I can't wait for the second half of the season when all players will be ready to play and I can't see Liverpool beating us at home. Good match for us, I expected 0:0.

- I get what Mourinnho was saying about having no midfielder with power and energy to bring on, as this would have been very useful, but this is not an excuse to not try and win the game. By his logic any team who go to Anfield without a player the size of Fellaini should just give up trying to win or even play basic passes? Teams with much worse players than we had today manage to attempt to win games. The feck is he on about?

- Klopp as well. He was moaning about United not trying to win and how this wouldn't be acceptable at Liverpool...but it was 0-0, at Anfield, and he subbed all three of his forwards off because he was too scared to open up the game to try and win it. This is actually what ensured it ended 0-0. Must have wanted to make sure Jose didn't outdo him in the talking shite contest.

- Sky trying to make a thing of Lukaku accidentally clipping Lovren, even to the point of insisting on asking Klopp about it 3 times, because it was such a nothing incident he didn't even know what they were talking about the first two times and so answered a different question instead.

Herrera - There is no point in any game where booting the ball directly up in the air is the correct thing to do.

Jones - Don't pass the ball to unmarked players on the opposition team who are just yards from your own goal. In fact, just don't do this at all, anywhere.

- About once every ten minutes Darmian does something that makes you suspect he might atually be a footballer...not a very good one, but you know, someone who actually plays football for a living. The rest of any ten minute period he spends convincing you he very definitely isn't.

- Why was a Liverpool defender named MOTM in a game that ended 0-0 and where the other team spent most of the game defending? Can anyone explain this?

- Neville and Tyler spending the first ten mintues of the game bleating on about United's more positive set up than last year, even though it was if anything mroe negative than how we set up last year. Then feeling they had to cerry on going on about it despite it becoming more and more obvious they were talking shite. To the point Neville had to wait until after the game before he thought it was safe to completely change his mind.

- Basically the only impressive thing about this game was how much shite various people managed to talk about it.

We really missed Pogba and Fellani today. Pogba would have been effective in keeping possession when being pressed and finding a pass when needed. Herrera did neither.
Fellani would have been more effective than Miki today as we were trying to by pass the Liverpool midfield with long balls upfront but Lukaku was left all by himself as the lone target man. Fellani would have given us another option.

This is what really got me. I could understand Darmian playing, but him plus Young in effectively a back six? That was overkill. Why not play Rashford on the right?

Mourinho has been on the case of all our attackers to be conscientious defensively. But he doesn't play Mata, Rashford even when they do track back.

Surely an attacker would then think, "What's the point?" Tbh, so was I.

We could have easily played Blind as an extra midfielder, freed up Herrara and played Rashford and Martial on the flanks to ensure we had a pacy counter attack if we going to play that way. We could have asked Mata to play deeper to make it three. There are always other options. The possession play from us was atrocious bordering on embarrassing. People can go on about we don't dominate at Anfield but we couldn't string more than 5 passes together and put them under any sort of pressure.

Anfield is a tough place to go and we were lucky to get a draw but Liverpool were there for the taking.

Didn't try to win. Very disappointing performance and negative tactics against a Liverpool side that does nothing but leak goals.

Couldn't even really watch the last 30 mins. Got tired of seeing Liverpool attacking with us attempting to parry. Was a pretty terrible match honestly, that ended in a decent result for us points wise, and the best result our rivals could have hoped for in a 0-0 draw.

Not that anyone cares but at least we achieved par in the APLT :wenger::D.
