Look at the big picture; without our top scorer and top midfielder (plus pogba), it was a really good fight. Not our fault Liverpool fluffed their chances. We kept fighting. Pressing until the end. We knew 0-1 or 0-2 wouldn’t make a difference. We threw everyone up bar DDG. Considering how good this Liverpool side are, IMO we gave it all and didn’t give them too much respect. Doomed right from the start with a 5-3-2 formation. Not surprised one bit that we started playing better once we switched to a 4-2-3-1. I absolutely hate a 5 man defense. Especially if AWB is set to be a wingback. His specialty is defending. Not attacking. So if we insist on using that formation then have Dalot play in the RWB position. And speaking of AWB, he was brutal today. Constantly out of position with Fred and Lindeloff having to cover him far too often, especially in the first half. Play him as a RB in a 4 man defense or don't play him at all. And taking Williams off instead of Shaw when we switched to a back 4 was another huge mistake. I would only understand that move if we were winning. But chasing a goal we should stick with the better attacker.

Yeh, we lack quality final third and that is really frustrating because what I see before that is actually a team setup quite well, moving the ball forward quickly, looking for passes between the lines. It looks better to me than it has been under our post fergie managers. I enjoy watching us atleast now!

Plain to see that there is a good emerging crop of players coming through. If they all develop on their current trajectory we will have good quality and strength in depth. They are for three future at least two years away. Feck me they need some older heads around them and in the dressing room.

I think result aside we weren't bad. We were outplayed for a 10 min spell in the 1st half and a 5-8 min spell in the 2nd half, but apart from that, we were decent. We had a couple of good chances that should have been converted.
People here really need to get a grip of the circumstances. This is arguably among the top 5 teams in England since '92 (I wouldn't argue if someone said this is the 2nd or 3rd best as well), we were without 2 of our best players and McT and playing away to a side that has not lost at home for 51 games.
Sure, I'm disappointed because the optimist in me expected us to be the team that would stop them, but let's not kid ourselves and start saying stuff like xyz is not good enough because he had a poor game away at Anfield against this Pool team

The worrying part isn't losing away to the worlds best team, when we have 3 key players injured. The worrying part is that our squad is in such a state that this was actually a pretty decent performance.

I don't think we played well. You can make an argument that Fred and Matic played well. You can even make an argument that we fought well, but the performance on the ball was not very good at all. No quality in that last third, and let's be honest, this isn't an isolated example. Rashford aside, our main issue is the last third! Never the right ball at the right time with the right weight. If it's the right pass, it's the wrong weight. if it's the right weight, it's the wrong time. Just the decision making is poor at the moment.

Disagree, its not just the last third, its mainly midfield.

Today the biggest difference between them and us was that we could not transport the ball from defense into attack. Part of that is down to Liverpool being incredible in their high press, but most of it is down to our midfielders not being confident/able to to receive the ball, turn and deliver it forward.

We had so many situations where we had the ball in defense and it turned into a dangerous attack for them because our CB's had no passing options so they either hit it wide to a marked player, or hit it forward to another marked player who then overturned possession to them. If we had a quality DM that could drop down and just glide past their first line of press and hit a pass through their next line then their super high press would be incredible dangerous because then we could bypass 6-7 players in two moves.

We dont have that kind of player on the pitch today though. If we had for example Carrick we would have caused them a lot of problems

We didn't disgrace ourselves by any means- although the start of the second half could have been very ugly if Liverpool hadn't missed their chances. Some good performances from Fred, DDG, Martial (despite the miss, he was the only forward who looked like doing anything). No one can accuse us of lacking passion but technically we're not great are we?!

AWB, Periera and james were very poor. Shaw did well in patches but still manages to annoy the feck out of me so much with his yellow cards for pulling back. Another one for the collection today Seriously, just urghhhh!

Didn't really feel like a contest for the vast majority of today's game. And then just as we were applying pressure, that Salah goal was a a huge blow. Not as bad a result as it could have been but too many poor performances out there today. Perreira and James in particular, think they should have went off earlier. We looked better with Mata and Greenwood. Fred was our best player today.

I'm truth it was a game we were never likely to win. But it still sucks.

Proud of the boys. All things considered, I thought they did well.

Started the game well. Looked good on the ball and forced Liverpool into making errors like we did at Old Trafford.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to take advantage of the good start and ended up going a goal down, following another set piece goal conceded.

The goal gave the whole stadium a lift and Liverpool were unlucky not to get another goal or two, having had a strong 10-15 mins after their goal.

Second half they started well. Thankfully, we were able to weather the storm and finished quite strong in the last 25 minutes. Had a couple of good chances but couldn't finish.

This was a strange game which while for the majority we were under the cosh, it was frustrating not to at least get a draw given the last few mins. Apart from a couple of spells of 10-12 mins though, Liverpool dominated and credit to them. Right now they are the best team in club football and they showed why. Their full backs are the best in the world.

We carved out one good chance in the first half which Pereira should have buried and one more in the second half which Martial should have done much better with but other than that nothing else.

Now the difference in quality between both the sides is fairly evident. The flaws that our side have are obvious as well. Replacing Pereira with someone who has genuine quality (Read Bruno Fernandes or anyone of a similar ilk) will make a huge difference to this side. There was a counter in the second half when Pereira instead of passing to the right (where there was a player in acres of space) passed it to Martial on the left who was crowded. The decisions made in those crucial fractional seconds decide games and in my opinion Pereira or Lingard are not the answer for that position.

Next summer will be the most crucial window for us in years. It will decide the fate of this current United side. With the young players we have, there is an opportunity to build something as good and exciting as this Liverpool side. (if not better). However, we need to invest. It is simply not good enough to rely on just young players alone and ignore the key flaws in this current side. We need an addition of quality in the final third and in the middle.

Now whether Ed Woodward and the current ownership back the club and make the right investments remains to be seen and a huge question mark. Meanwhile, these are frustrating (and at times depressing) times as a United fan.
