No idea, but when you can bring on bruno, rashford and Cavani, you look past James totally.
Still James was on the bench, as per the protocol. But I’d rather give this bench time to Pellistri

Also: tactical fouling is ruining football at this point. It's the single thing I want changed in the modern game, because these high press teams know that they can gamble relentlessly to win the ball back because if they miss then another player will hack the attacker down and give the team time to fall back into their shape. It's such a glaring exploit that doesn't get punished because refs don't want to get their cards out so often, and it gives teams that do this such an advantage to dominate the game from. We were really struggling with it the last 20 minutes of the first half, and while we were sloppy ourselves it does us no favors when we play it sharply out of the back only for Martial to be hacked down so that RB can't be punished for playing such a high line.

So stupid.

This...! The pressing thing where the opposition can charge in to you with impunity and either win the ball to start an attack or, when they don’t, just clatter you really boils my pi$$. It would be helpful if the refs actually took some action. It feels like a loophole at the moment.

Anyway, it couldn’t stop us tonight. So proud of that bunch of lads. Nice to start getting a run of results together now...this is United!

Impossible to say anything negative about today's match. Absolutely delightful.

Another very interesting and delicious thing that we have been witnessing in the past couple of games: Ole's match-management has become way better. He used to just put forward his best (and only) starting 11 and the substitute based on necessities, usually too late in the game. We have started seeing completely different match management from Ole lately however (esp. against Chelsea, and today albeit very different results). He will start with one strategic formation and then in the second half he will make very strategic subs, transforming the game based on the plan, not forced necessities. It's quite awesome to watch, to be honest. Could be result of - he has something to choose from in the midfield and up front now, but either way - very nice to watch. Would be even better if he had Sancho instead of Dan James, but very nice nevertheless.

This. I have been saying forever that managers need time to build their team. The period to build the team should be 3-5 years. Unfortunately today results are required right away and managers are never given enough time. There is still a lot of room for improvement for Ole on the tactical aspect of the game but that will come eventually. Slowly we are building the team.

I can say that under Moyes, LvG and Mourinho we never had inspired/extra-ordinary performances like we did under Ole on numerous occasions.

But let's not get carried away too much... First 30 minutes of this game weren't really that great. It was very open game and if Leipzig scored the game could have been very different. The score isn't really the reflection of how today went, but we will take it.

Couldn't catch the game but what a fanatastic result. Leipzig didn't seem to know how to handle our counters with their high line. Great position to quality from a tricky group. Well done to Ole and players.

My favorite thing about tonight wasn't even the goals. It was the sheer ferocity that Martial and Bruno chased down a ball when we're up 4-0 from a Leipzig defender. 4-0 up and they still go FULL TILT to get the ball to score more. Honestly it makes me a bit teary eyed, this is the Manchester United I want.
I thought the same. From the time we were 3-0 up, the team still played with high tempo with eyes for forward passes. Players committed to push up when we got the ball. No slow down, side passing.
The attitude are great around the squad now. Unbelievable

Funny how so many posters argue that standards are slipping yet the player ratings average is only 7.4 after we just thrashed a 2019/20 CL semi-finalist.

Just watched replay and first 55 min or so, they pressed the shit out of us, as usual there were only few moments when we managed to play it out of the trouble, we didnt make any mistakes that could cost us and they fecked up one time during that period, thankfully kiddo scored a great goal.

That 2nd goal and after, they lost a plot and we demolished them, we have a tight grip in a group now. Overall, Ole did most things right last night, best part he gave a rest to few players and we still won, which should help a lot vs Arsenal.

I'll tell you what. If you told me we'd be in this position after our first two matches against the group of death favorites back when we learned our draw, I'd call you delusional.

That look the ref gave the linesman for that offside that Rashford scored .

if looks could kill...

Could only watch the replay, very nice result indeed.
I like the changes (the subs as well). Well done Ole.

I’ve a buddy who told me we would struggle to win a game in the group , he got a what’s app for the 2nd week in a row From me :D

Yes, I would put Ole as MOTM for tonight game

In 2015-16 we scored 7 goals in 6 group games against PSV, Wolfsburg, and CSKA Moscow.

We've scored 7 goals in 2 games against PSG and RB Leipzig.

Fantastic result.

I think that is the most enjoyment I have had watching us since SAF. Everything went right.

Now I don’t see anyone else saying this but I actually thought Mctominay was great for us today. By no means man of the match, but he gave us exactly what we needed when we needed it and in my opinion is such an underrated member of the squad with the sort of work ethic we always fantasise about and it confuses me as to why he doesn’t have more admirers among our fan base.

That said there is no reason for anything but jubilation tonight for all United fans and hopefully a win at Arsenal and even the most cautious of fans can start to get truly excited about this season!

It is starting to feel like slow, but progressive rebuild of Liverpool under Klopp. Took them 3-5 years, as well. And Klopp had much better support than what Woodward is giving Ole, but we may still make it. This year is going to be very important.

This game felt like the good old days when Arsenal were past it and kept passing the ball around and looking pretty while pretty much doing feck all and we regularly stuffed them with the few chances we created.

Even Pogba ran a bit. Fred was a dynamo in midfield. Not getting Sancho opens the door for Greenwood big time.
I always have rated Rashford as the best striker in England. His problem is inconsistency. But if tonight is a confidence building moment and he scores few more in a run of games, then watch out.
Rashford >>> Martial

we need a lw more than rw if Rashford plays center forward more.

Those European nights are special at Old Trafford

For what its worth, Ole has given us the best moments since SAF left. The most memorable matches have been under him. The only other match I truly remember is when we outplayed city under LVG.

Still buzzing this next morning!

Absolutely brilliant. Loved all four open play goals. Greenwood brought back memories of van Persie and Rashford of van Nistelrooy. Fernandes was superb coming on, ran them ragged with his quick thinking and passing. Fred, as expected, harried them into mistakes. Pogba was better; great assist. VDB a bit lost but worked hard. The back four were essentially flawless. C'mon!

I've been Ole's critic, but he really schooled the Nag here. The German was rather naive with his high line given the sort of players we have.

EDIT:
Was especially pleased with the first goal and the fact that it was not a counter-attack. It came from Fred winning the ball, and Pogba playing in a good ball to Greenwood who had made a great run.

I would be tempted to switch Martial to the left, Greendwood as a no.9, and Rashford on the right.

Just watched the replay of the match.

We looked very solid throughout the pitch, which was most comforting to see. Yes scoring 5 is excellent, but our organization off the ball and not falling trap to their high press was the best thing about this match. In a way this match highlighted our depth and our versatility in play styles.

Lovely to see the late flurry of goals.
Top result.

We have a proper chance of qualifying to the round of 16 by the next 2 matches.

Just after we have probably the worst start ever in the league, we also have the best start ever in CL, beating last year finalist and semi-finalist convincingly.
