Post-match discussion

Job done but some players should have realized this was an opportunity to prove themselves. I hope one of Pereira or Fred or both will make it at United, otherwise we'll need to shop for a mid. Or we'll have to do it anyway.

That was really awful to watch, but rested most of the important players and got a win. What concerns me a bit though is how little effort, from both first XI regulars and second string players there was. Players like McTominay, Fred and Perreira should really give 100% when they get a chance and none of them seemed arsed at all

Poor performance, even with a much changed side we should be doing better than that but the big one is next week so happy enough to get the win and forget about this one.

Don't want to be too harsh as this bunch of players have hardly played, let alone played together. But that was a dreadful performance all around. All of the midfield 3 in particular did themselves no favours, despite the hype on here for Pereira. Romero made the saves required but his distribution seemed shakier than usual.

2nd goal was a good piece of play. That's about the only positive from the performance perspective.

Winning.
Resting key-players in a fixture list that has a lot of games in a short time.
Giving some kids a chance & some players who need to get match-fit game-time.

I'd call that a big positive, even if the football was dull.

I’m never getting back that 90 mins. Dreadful stuff. Lazy, thoughtless, uninspired. I can believe how often we gave the ball away.

Not a good prep for Spurs. I know he changed it up a bit, but come on... Last two games actually a bit worrying.

Not as stellar performance as the past 4 but win is all that matters in the cup where freak results are more likely to happen. Even City in imperious form last season were put out by Wigan.

An understandably poor performance but we're through to the next round and have rested some key players for Tottenham.

Lots of negativity in these threads. Do we ever play well against lower league opposition? Must be a motivation issue.

Happy to win, obviously.
It's hard to complain too much after winning five matches on the bounce.
Happy to see Chong come on, he didn't pull up any trees but it was a brutal performance all around so it doesn't matter.
Some of the players looking to get into the managers first team plans (the midfield) showed that they're far off the pace, Fred I thought inparticular was dreadful.
But ah well, we did what we had to do.

The lack of intensity from most players on the pitch today is concerning.

No team should really come to Old Trafford and have that much possession, especially one from the championship.

Win was the most important thing today. Performance was the poorest we’ve had under Ole.

Three things we learned today:

1. Most of the starting 11 has no future at Utd.
2. We need a coach to train these players how to pass the ball.
3. We got robbed for Fred transfer!

On to next round, not worth dwelling on anything else!

Horrendous viewing, but we had enough quality when it mattered to labour through it.

Not bothered about the performance given the line up.

Will be glad to see Lindelof, Shaw, Pogba, Matic, Herrera, Lingard and Martial back in the starting XI.

McTominay and Pereira are simply not good enough as United midfielders. Fred is barely decent.

That was terrible. Complete opposite of what we’ve seen from the previous 4 games. No pressing, sat deep, no options for players, no possession, no pace.

Seemed perfect for Andreas, Dalot and Fred to show why they deserve to play more and they were complete average. Really weird game, not sure if they weren’t motivated, couldn’t be arsed because of the opposition or bad tactics but that was grim from everybody.

Our run to win the cup in 2016 started with an even less inspiring 1-0 win (Rooney stoppage-time penalty) at home to Sheffield United. I suspect like that one this game will be forgotten quite quickly.

Very informative match. Mostly for our management as they could see who of the ones not getting minutes can be rotate in the league. Fred is very off the pace and I am worried about Pereira. Chong not busting a gut is also not impressive, even though other mistakes can be down to being nervous. Rashford typical hunger, Lukaku bad touch again. Young as steady as per usual. MC T limited but did a job. Sanchez has vision but Mata is done.

I think that none of Mctominay, Pereira and Chong are going to make it. Playing them is a waste of time.

Don't want to be too harsh as this bunch of players have hardly played, let alone played together. But that was a dreadful performance all around. Yes, I was watching distribution closely since debate here about Pep’s demands of keepers etc. That was very average from Romero. Does OGS have a hairdryer or did he leave it back in Norway?

Jose levels of boringdom, but it was always going to be tough to entertain with that copy and paste line up. Forget about it, we rested our best players and we’re in the hat. Job done.

They are going to Dubai.. clearly many of these players heads are already down there. McTominay has no future at this club. Neither does Young after this season. I am far from giving up on both Fred and Pereira. They have loads of talent, so hopefully Ole and Co can get it out of them.

Very lethargic performance, just seemed to lack the energy and buzz of recent weeks and that Sanchez Mata combo just really slows us down with no one else to stretch it but they weren’t helped by that midfield.

Think Darmian was easily MOTM.

Can't think of a single player who made us feel he deserved to break into the XI bar Young (For Valencia obviously). But oh well, so long as we can depend in our second string to atleast grind out results while our starting XI gets a rest, I'm not complaining.

Expect better against Spurs and I hope to God Valencia doesn't start.

Squad depth is a problem. We will find out just how much a problem as the season wears on.

If you put a midfield three consisting of Fred-Pereira-Mctominay up against anyone remotely competent, they will get battered. None of them will ever be good enough for United.

Job done, ok performance, Lukaku on the score sheet again, rested our main players( should be fresh for Spurs). Only downside was Sanchez's injury, hope its not too serious.

Awful game and an abject failure by the midfield 3 to stake a claim for the 1st team.

Highlight was the 'Phelan, where's the shorts?' chant.

Ole said the amount of changes effected the team performance

A disjointed performance, but understandable given the rotation and lack of match fitness and experience for a lot of the players. All the same, 2-0, clean sheet and we never got out of 1st gear. Its the 3rd round of the F.A. Cup, main priority is just winning these matches and avoiding a big headline. Take the result and look forward to the next game where we will really judge Ole and the team against Spurs

Why are those morons talking about VAR controversy? It was Mata setting himself up to finish, not a pass. It only becomes a pass when the opposition player takes him out and the touch becomes a pass.

Ole quite rightly talking about how making 9 changes makes it very difficult and a disjointed performance is at least in part down to that.

Some rested players and a bit of a break plus through to the next round.

Job done.
