Decent result. Think we'll do them at Old Trafford so should progress. Performance wasn't great. Didn't really offer much of anything going forward, and i'm not sure if we were particularly great in defence. Granted we kept the clean sheet, but they had a few opportunities which they wasted, thankfully. Of course, huge credit to De Gea; the guy's a machine.

Got the job done i suppose. Would like to have seem a little more attacking threat, but it just wasn't there tonight. Pretty joyless game of football in truth.

Performance today will only be justified if we put on something great on Sunday. Otherwise it was pretty boring and painful to watch tbh.

Dont know how anyone can think that 0-0 against an average team with a poor performance like that with our GK being the best player is somehow a good result.

What do you mean here we go? I really don’t understand how anyone can dispute this argument. It’s beyond bizarre you want to defend it.
Some of us have bigger aspirations than copying what City, Spurs or Liverpool are doing. Do you think Atletico sit around and talk about how they should be more like Barcelona? There's more than one way to win.

De Gea - best in the world

Valencia - did pretty well, troubled at times, had his own good moments. Decent.
Smalling - Pretty good
lindelof - Best of our back 5 IMO
Young - Decent but I do get annoyed how he always seems to get caught out of position because he tries to play like the winger that he is, not a fullback.

McTominay - Did alright. Nothing special, kept his position and helped out defensively, but nothing bad either
Matic - Shite. So fecking slow, careless on the ball, and just does nothing. Need to improve on him.
Herrera - Our best player the opening 15 mins, then got injured.
Pogba - Did alright. Kept it simple and did his bit defensively so that was nice. Did better once the game got more stretched. Still very far from what I expect from him.

Mata - didn't do much
Lukaku - standard big game performance. Goes missing
Sanchez - Created the one chance brilliantly, dropped too deep otherwise and didn't do much

I think Matic, Sanchez, Pogba, Lukaku and Mata were very average. That's probably our five 'biggest' players No wonder the overall play was rubbish. We were really poor at keeping the ball and stringing attacks for most parts of the game. That's arguably our biggest problem as a team.

Well I'd be disappointed because on paper we're a better team than them. If it was Barcelona that we drew 0-0 at home with - I'd be satisfied because they didn't score an away goal and I'd be hopeful that we can nick something away from home. Which I'm sure what Sevilla will be thinking.

i would hate to be hoping for an away goal at the Nou Camp. it's just easier to score at home, simple. Sevilla were poor in front of goal tonight at home, why does everyone suddenly think they will score away? people are way too pessimistic. our whole plan will be different at home. people want us to just go out and attack every game, it's not Jose's style, nor was it Fergie's. people will point at Liverpool's attacking play - when was the last time Liverpool, or Klopp, won anything?

Matic was atrocious. Did you actually watch the game? He wasn’t the one in green using his hands.
Matic made the highest number of completed passes for United. He was composed and played well. Always positionally aware. A 6/7 out of 10. He seemed a little leggy at the end. Needs a break. I think Mou is getting his game plan across better to the team, this side, I repeat, will improve. Maybe not in ways that satisfy everyone, but...

Atletico attack with a system and are absolutely efficient. I’d have no problem playing defensively if we didn’t regualrly concede huge chances where De Gea has to bail us out constantly and when we do counter we are largely useless and unorganised.

Also hilarious saying you have bigger aspirations considering the way we are currently performing against any side with quality. It’s not working, that is a fact.

We are nothing like a classic Mourinho team, if we were we’d all be happy. At the moment, he’s not what he was.

Seen a few people sayin they don't care as long as we progress. Progress to what? To the first semi-capable team who will spank us like Tottenham?

What you have to think about is we are not an Everton who got lucky to qualify once in a lifetime, we are supposed to be one of the biggest teams in the world, yet we play like an Everton team who have got dazzled in the European floodlights. Does any other top team play as disjointed and poorly as we do? Why do we buy decent players and turn them into shit, De Gea aside? I have had a few drinks tonight and am mad, but still think I would feel the same anyway.

Result =/= performance. The result itself is ok, even better so if we weigh in the performance. A win against Sevilla at home will see United through which is doable so the result is certainely not bad.

Atletico have half the budget of Barca. We have double the budget of Liverpool at like four times the budget of Spurs.

Average side? Top 5 La Liga side who have lost something like 1 in their last 35 at home? Think outside the box, it was a dissapointing result, but it was more dissapointing for them, they needed to get 1 or 2 goals tonight to put themselves into the driving seat. Failure to score at home puts United as favourites now. Poor performance yes, but you just have to trust they will play better in the return leg when it really matters.

Of course Atletico would rather play like Barcelona, who have been one of the two most dominating teams in Europe for the last 10 years. Are you having a laugh comparing Manchester United to Atletico Madrid and saying we should be like them?

I don’t understand why we can’t just pick our best 11 players each week in a formation that suits their strengths.
Exactly. Put the game to bed, I like Mata but he slows us down. Start with the pace then bring him on later to slow it down.

We're shit to watch, I don't think anyone can argue that.. It's about as far from entertaining as it could get, but the last 15min or so gave me some hope that we can actually score against these guys and it should be a completely different game at OT, with us being much better at home and them being pretty terrible away.

But we didnt win

It's literally De Gea's job to stop the ball crossing the line. He's damn good at it but that's what he's there for. Don't make me get the Wikipedia quote out again.

Sitting 2nd in the Premier League and gained a respectable draw away in the last 16 of the Champions League. Yeah, we're fecked, I just hope we stay up this season.

I thought we were terd tonight. McManaman and co constantly playing down Sevilla as toothless wasn't convincing, they still created far more than we did. Yes we were away. But if Sevilla manage 1 or God forbid 2 goals at OT, are we really guaranteed to outscore them on current form?

I'm tired of watching United play like this and we should be able to produce some decent football at times.

I think this is about as good as it will get. Grind out a result if we get the first leg away and go for it cautiously at home. Of course, that won't do in the next round unless we get lucky with the draw, which wouldn't surprise me.

One good thing is that Bailly, Rojo, Shaw, Lingard and Martial can come in and be fresh for the Chelsea game if selected.

The main reason Atletico had to find an alternate way to win was because they have limited resources and can't compete financially with Barcelona or Real Madrid.

We have chosen with virtually unlimited spending to build a team that reacts to the opposition and never takes front foot and rarely looks to dominate. Just so backwards. It's like if you have all the money in the world to build the team of your dreams from scratch, why the feck would someone choose one that parks the bus in any big game and just cedes all the momentum to the opposition?

It really wasn’t that bad. Nothing you haven’t plenty of times in European aways over those 40 years.

Tonight was as bad as anything under Moyes and LVG.
When losing the ball, United were fantastic at switching back to their defensive positions. De Gea was brilliant McTominay was head & shoulders United’s best outfield player. Those are the only positive things I can think of. The quality of our attacking play atrocious and there doesn’t seem to be a plan how to attack. Lukaku & Sanchez were playing on an island. Sevilla are an ordinary side, with the quality of players we currently have we really should be showing more attacking ambition against a side like Sevilla. This is not the United I know and love.

Aren't we all. I expect more of this until Mourinho sorts out his over all strategy of whether he wants to play tumescent defensively and maybe nick a late winner or whether he wants to open things up a bit and allow are attackers more freedom to be creative.

Average team with a poor performance??? Seville is 5th in Laliga so it is not a Wigan that all you need to do is to show up and victory is certain. If you recall what happen to Liverpool then never underestimate their fire power. I wish they had a poor performance but they didn't.

Having said that, our team was nervous and every single player seemed to have made a poor pass throughout the game. We definitely need to improve on our performance for sure.

Well you'd think we lost if you didn't watch the game and came into this thread.
I can sympathise with everyone who is dismayed with our performance. Was it 1 shot on target we had? That speaks volumes

You've had a nightmare here sunshine.

Was the comment: Atletico don't want to play like Barcelona or was it Atletico don't want the trophies Barcelona have had over the last 10 years?
Also, did I say that Manchester United should be aspiring to follow in the footsteps of Atletico Madrid? I think you better go back and read it again.

I just wonder how this severe lack of momentum is going to hurt our top four chances as I can see us getting turned Ver on Sunday, with Pool and Spurs coming back in to good bouts of form.

Would the board accept 5th?

The question would then have to be, if it's not bringing success, is this manager right for this club?
