Doesn't matter who Man United are playing next, the home form is the biggest worry and ill gladly take a lucky win against Leeds whom will be full of confidence mainly because of Man Uniteds home form.That's true.

Our defending is poor with or without Bruno, I agree. But we were in total control of that game and pushing for more goals until Fernandes was taken off. After that our passing was terrible and the whole team dropped back encouraging Sheffield to attack exposing our aforementioned defence.
Someone needs to properly step up as a leader when Bruno’s subbed off.
It's a shame about that last goal, because it distorts from what was a great performance for almost 90 minutes. A goalkeeper blunder in the first 5 doesn't really change that story, but when you add the nervousness that comes with that last goal, the narrative somewhat changes into this being a tighter game than it really was.
I don't think a single player played poorly today. Some players not that visible, others having an absolute belter, but everyone doing their job and playing their part. Pogba was world class. Not just because of his skills, which were on full display, but also because of the steel and tenacity in every part of his game. He player like he had something to prove today, whatever that may be. I wish Paul Pogba always felt like he had something to prove.

Yeah like you say there is a real opportunity and they need to be licking their lips at the prospect rather than just settling for 3-1 with over 40 minutes of the game left
It really is something to keep coming back from conceding early, you have to give them that.
It's a double whammy on the first one. We were the previous holders of the worst start - in the 30s apparently.

So what ? We are right in the mix. Doesn't care against who we draw or lose as long as we are in the mix.
In 7 years we have never been that close from the top after third of the season.
I don't get all the doom and gloom this season. We are right there with the big boys in terms of points.
Start of the season last year was horrible. We had nothing to play after 12 games. Now we have everything to play for ! I am not saying we are winning the league, but at last it is still not delluded to dream.
I am enjoying it and I am taking one game a the time really. The table can turn so fast this year, it is crazy really.

they are obviously not the smartest bunch collectively to let it keep happening though. I would have my doubts about the mentality of this team. We haven’t gone behind and come back to beat a good team yet this season either... it just screams complacency to me.
We need to defend corners with men on the line. That McGoldrick corner goal wouldn’t even make the highlights if we had a player there.

Oh i'm with you mate. It's really the only clutch of a compliment you could give this side that they seem to be able to pull a good passage of play out of nowhere.
It's the sloppy, lethargic, arrogant starts that they dish out (almost every single game now) that screams they're not at it and that has to come from the top.
Never nice to compare to the Scousers but look at them - Klopp has them fired up from minute 0 every game.

I guess for ‘controlling’ a game I am conflating it with us looking ‘convincing’. I’d say it’s not uncommon for us to have a 20 minute spell where we play some great stuff, but still come our of the match either fortunate to scrape through with a win or spending valuable energy trying to hold on to a slender lead. And I agree with you, it isn’t a given to be able to do that in the PL, and a win is a win,especially away from home. But if it is to be sustainable and lead to a title challenge, we should be producing more of such performances, considering the quality of our squad.
Its really noticeable looking at the for and against columns just how many goals the top 10 are conceding. Spurs and City are doing the best and they are both averaging a goal against a game.
VAR and the rule changes are definitely changing the game. I think this will be the norm from now on.
Good win, albeit a bit nervy at the end. Between their goals the play was good and what you'd expect from a Utd team against the side at the bottom of the table. Too lax and resting at 3-1 and all of a sudden it's a panic for the last few to keep them out. There's enough good players out there to play the game out and not give them a sniff.
Sheffield remind me of Norwich a couple of seasons ago, they're not getting totally hammered and are only losing by the odd goal in most games. They need to start picking up points otherwise whatever confidence they have left will be totally drained soon.

I think we will get better at that. Its tough though. I thought Liverpool were fantastic last night. Best performance I've seen this season, but they had some dicey moments and could have lost had Spurs been clinical. With the condensed fixture schedule this season I think we'll see periods where teams just need to take a breather.

Just playing devil's advocate, you know, but De Gea made an almost identical mistake at Everton last season, remember?
I understand that by no means is this a well thought out game plan of ours, but by conceding early away goals against these home sides this season, it is absolutely playing into our hands. The home teams think that we are so easy to score against that they keep piling forward for another goal and in doing so, leave loads of space at the back. All Bruno and Pogba have to do is play the ball into the space behind and let the forwards run amok. We have now got this reputation for starting slowly, so every team will hit us hard for the first 20 minutes. This will only play into our hands eventually. It is working so far.
How much do you put that down to the lack of crowds?
It lends an air of a training ground fixture to proceedings and I wonder if this affects some players ability to focus as much as they would ordinarily.
Once crowds are back properly we'll know I suppose but we do have to take into account that the games are being played in an artificial environment.
Thought the score flattered Sheffield. We hammered them. 2 extremely lucky goals. Rashford could have had a hattrick at the very least

A little too close for comfort but we were irresistible at times. I suppose this is what building consistency looks like.
Won't get away with that at Anfield though
A new centerback to partner Maguire is a must. A Vidic type of defender who is aggressive and good in the air. This United defence is similar to the one we had before Vidic came. Good on the ball but would concede stupid goals because Ferdinand and who ever partners him wasn't aggressive enough.
Thought everyone played well. Martial had great off-the-ball movement and finally got a goal. Lindelof's assist to Rashford was brilliant, as was Rashy's first touch on it. That last goal was pure team effort.
