3 points and a clean sheet. Any top team would take that at st.marys.

Up against 12 men and we didn't do ourselves any favours. Pretty gutsy in the end though. Pawson is sunday league quality what a bellend.

3 points, performance wasn't perfect, but Southampton away is always a horrible fixture. It's their cup final, glad we're getting so many tricky away ties out of the way. Onwards and upwards!

Shit performance. We miss Pogba. But we got the 3 points & these scrappy, undeserved wins won us titles in previous years so well done.

Ref was a cnut.

Before everyone on here single out individual performances I’m just gonna say “3 points from a historical tough away fixture” not a great performance but its the result what matters. Another clean sheet, lets move on.

Pathetic second half performance. Parking the bus against a pretty poor Southampton side for 45 mins. We ended up with 6 defenders in the end! Glad we won, but that was a very unconvincing performance.

I was adamant that City and United had an equal chance of winning the title. Now I'll admit that City are the favorites, with us and Chelsea behind.

Brilliant - going to have a few of these games during the season, bad performance, poor finishing, other team stepping up and an absolute wanker of a ref that does everything to try hand it to the other side.

Mourinho accepting we were not going to bulldoze them and doing whatever it took to see it through. Am thrilled

Best part will be all the whining about how are are not good enough.

3 points.

We already have wins against West Ham(H), Everton(H) and Southampton(A). All of the corresponding fixtures we drew last season.

Shows the improvement well enough.

I'm gonna say it over and over again, Mkhi doesn't deserve to be a starter. Couldn't keep the ball for more than few seconds in the 2nd half, anyway 3 points is what matters so its okay.

Jones, De Gea was excellent, Lukaku for his goal. The rest was utter shit

Dreadful second half. Thank feck it's over, with three points in the bag. But we seem to be getting worse and worse with every game in the league...

Our best player being injured, the performance level had to drop.

Still don't understand why we only have full on offensive OR full on defensive?

That last 10 - 15 minutes reminded me too much of the last 15 of some of our games from last season that I thought we'd put behind us.

Suppose we'll have to do it sometimes and I guess that would have been a draw last season so … progress?

THREE POINTS!

Southampton MOTM: Craig Pawson
Yeah, was a very, very poor display from him. Had one team in mind who he wanted to win but it happens, it didn't cost us for a change so we can breath a sigh of relief.

Decent in the first half once we scored but the second half was the drizzling shits, Southampton took the initiative and we saw the worst of Mourinho, instead of trying to take it back we went more and more negative until we were camped in our own half inviting attack after attack.

Massive win

Usually would be critical of mourinho as we saw last season trying to park the bus rarely working, but introduction of smalling worked out

Definsevely we were excellent, Jones motm. Fellaini and matic both good too protecting them

We actually have a good record against them, but I don't think I've seen us play Southampton in the last few years without thinking "how the feck did we get away with that" at full time

Gotta love the moaning after a clean sheet on the road.

Should have won by more. For all their pressure, De Gea was rarely troubled. I still can't fathom how Herrera couldn't even hit the target.

Not many of the top 6 will pick up points here. Great result. Southampton were very good.

Unless they do a Stoke and go back to mediocrity the next game.

P.S. Was Mourinho sent off? Could this have repercussions?

Played poorly and defended well. We drew that last season.

Good result.

If Martial had any chance of being introduced it was from 45-60 mins. Looked like he was coming on at one stage, but Rashford was defending so deep after that that I didn't even want Martial on. It didn't make sense under that amount of pressure. Yeah, he might have relieved some by attacking but that was not a free flowing attacking display. It was scrappy, gritty and forgettable. Thankfully, 3 points.

Happy with that. What was Mourinho's sending off about though?

Didn't drop points, can't really ask for more without Pogba. I would prefer to us be the attacking side, but as usual our defense is rock solid.

Absolutely huge win. You can't expect to demolish teams in every game (though City are on a bit of a run...), but especially in away games to grounds like Southampton. Any win is a good win in games like today. Seeing out the game will do wonders for our confidence defensively too. Jones and Bailly absolute beasts today.

Performance wise obviously wasn't the best, they took control in the second half and we had to be pragmatic and grind it out, though we still missed about 3 great chances that should've got us the 2nd goal. All good in the end though.

Matic, Fellaini, Lukaku, Jonas, Bailly all excellent. De Gea did his job. Mata fine. Valencia and Young decent. Still not a great game from us but hard to blame many of the players. Winning at Southampton is not easy.

They say it's encouraging to win when you're shit and this is braveheart encouraging.

I hate the lack of brains. When the opposition is putting us under pressure DON'T make low percentage passes make safe sure passes and kill their momentum. I don't understand why this basic caveat of football escapes us sometimes.
