So then using your logic on another day Rashford's FK goes in and Herrera puts it into the back of the net and we win 3-0
And then there's Lukaku's chance where he just had to the keeper to beat. That's not luck though...

Defended well, the only real clear sight of goal Southampton had was the Romeu chance from a corner. Young's crossing from LB will be an asset at times this season... although he shouldn't be starting there against teams with a more dangerous attack.

Would really like to see Martial and Rashford start together.

They didn't. They also didn't create any more quality chances than we did, no matter how many times you tell us the amount of shots they had, but we will ignore that too.

You mean once? And repeating it once more since you seem a bit incapable of reading the first post. But that is what I expect from a poster who refused to believe we could sign any striker other than morata. Glad to see a unicorn scoring for us today.

Yes if you want to reduce my logic to all of their chances going in while we miss all of ours then yeah. Not sure why you would want to do that but who am I to stop you.
You're the one calling it luck.

I would like to see Martial and Lingard come in for Mkhi and Rashford. Lingard I think can work with the whole team way better than Mkhi even though Mkhi has the assists Lingard would be a greater benefit overall to the team.

Where did I say that? You're welcome to quote me, or carry on spouting bullshit - your choice. But I see my rating of him has been completely misplaced - that hattrick today must have been 'luck' right? Nah it was a leprechaun.

First halfI thought was quite good. Second was so shite both on and off the field. How Martial was left on the bench after 55 mins when we saw where the game was going with them pressuring leaving space to attack and Mata plus MkHitaryan being shite is beyond me. Still 3 points but that second half made me fuming and wondering if we are top4 material

I think that's what Herrera should have done, didn't happen though. I don't think he played well at all.
Carrick would've done it better. And yea Herrera had a poor game.

Can't remember the last time I was so angry after a victory. Seeing us struggle at the end while City scored five and fecking Morata scored a hattrick against Stoke was too much.

One of those games, we were awful, but we survived, but it was more due to luck than our own qualities. We've got a lot of improving to do, and Pogba can't come back soon enough.

Delighted with the result, nervy as feck but the points were all that mattered. Need to pick it back up next week again in the prem but so important to be able to see games out again despite playing crap.

 we paid more for Lukaku than we would have more Morata you div. Which was the point of the entire conversation. No wonder youre struggling here!

The fee quoted for both was similar but I will excuse you the brain fade, I would forget stuff too if I got things so wrong after being so arrogant and sure about it.

Was this a "win on a rough day" type performance that proves we're going to challenge for the title or a narrow win that proves we're still some way off the needed quality? I guess we'll find out along the way.

Absolutely elated with our start to the season, though. We can't blame our start if we don't win the league. I fully expect us to twat Crystal Palace next weekend, and hopefully Chelsea put an end to City's goal bonanza and hold out for a draw.

some soton attacks gave me heart attacks. happy with the win but not with our performance. well, at least we get 3 points.

I have a very good feeling about this season. To have played the way we did against Everton and Southampton and come out with 4-0 and 1-0 wins, is a good sign indeed.

There were times we totally outplayed opponents last season but shockingly came out with sickening draws.

And the last time we had Pogba injured, our results were very average if I can recall.

Championship winning sides grind out wins even when they are not in form or they have a bad day.

Our last 1-0 win in the league was in December (Spurs at home).

We really needed that, this is a big big win.We didn't play particularly well, especially in the 2nd half but we still had the tenacity, grit and quality to grind out a solid 1-0 away win.I"m really really pleased with this result....

Listen, football has NEVER had the equation of A beats B, B beats C so therefore A beats C.

Sit back, enjoy the season and watch how it plays out. In May let's review the situation.

The revisionism is strong in this one. By similar you mean not the same? What a creative way of admiting you are wrong.

But while we are on the subject let's discuss your vehement opposition to signing Morata, you know, that 'inexperienced' overpriced player who just scored a hatrick for Chelsea.

Must be embarrassing to smugly offer up post only to realise it just makes you look even more foolish.

Get used to it.
Jose wants to win the title, with a squad which is inferior to MCFC. Jose will put in place a tactic, for each game, which will allow us to challenge for the title...and some fans may not like that.
Some fans would rather see us play Martial, entertain and then lose games like today, rather than win the title. I don't fall into that category.
We have not won the title for far too long and as of now, I want Jose to do whatever it takes to bring that trophy back to MUFC.

No it wasn't exactly the same if that makes you happy, although I am not sure why it would. So have we decided to accept that we called all other strikers unicorns and basically suggested that we couldn't sign anyone else or are we still denying it.

3 points, keeping up with City and ensuring staying ahead of the rest. Job done. Sometimes you need results like these against tougher opposition. Will not look into it too much. Have a chance to better our GD with Palace at home next week with City playing Chelsea

Today was the day for defence.

I asked you to name a better player than Morata for his price and you named no one. Despite being asked half a dozen time by more than poster you refused to because you werent 'being paid to scout'.

Now you are smugly offering up a player who cost more than Morata as evidence?

But hey, 'no one else is going to pay 73mil for a benchwarmer', right?

The entire conversation was you telling everyone Morata was an unproven, backup striker and a waste of money for the quoted fee. On the back of him scoring a hattrick for Chelsea you thought it would be a good idea to bring that discussion back up and be smug about it?

Eh? Chelsea faced a Stoke team that was way more depleted than when they faced us. City were playing against Palace.

I am not happy with the way we played, but to get 3 points against a tougher opponent when our rivals all had easy ones is quite satisfactory. If we play against Palace like this next, then I'll be angry.

I was pissed off for a while there. But now that I have calmed down and that the match is over, I'll happily take the win. I highly doubt a team will win the league on GD(again!). So the 3 points is all that matters.

Like a lot of people have said, for all their attacks, they hardly troubled DDG. Pogba cannot come back soon enough though. Think Matic and Fellaini is too static, we'll get punished in the big games. Till Pogba returns, it is best if we play a midfield 3 instead.

Our attack (except Lukaku) really needs to step up.

It was abysmal. No hyperbole here, chief.

Anyway glad of the 3 points, lets agree to disagree. ;)

It wasn't in anyway abysmal.

If you were around in the Moyes year, I wonder how you tried to explain those days!

We got dominated and penned in our own half. They found it incredibly easy to get to our box all game and people are praising the midfield... It was a complete shambles from minute one.

We were asking for it, the way we played for the entire second half. Just because we got away with it, doesn't mean we will the next time around. Granted such games will be few and far between, it could prove decisive in case of a close run title race.
That's true of any game. At the end of the day we lost so many points last season because we couldn't hold onto a lead, today we got the job finished and left with three points. We've seen we can be fantastic this season so I'm not worried at all.

Think we should be positive and optimistic. 5 wins and one draw so far. Really good start. There are areas we need to improve though. We got far too defensive today I think. I know that is the way Mourinho often does it, but I think we should have brought Martial on and hit them more on the counter.

Still though looking really good so far!

Not today he wasn't.
I would have started with the three in midfield. Mata and Mhki were not both necessary today and neither played well. We got the win. In the past we have dropped points despite playing well. Sometimes you have to grind out results.
