Laborious, but we grinded out a win, and a potential 4-2 scoreline (had Pogba scored the pen) would've flattered us.

Sanchez completely off the pace. He's small, no longer has the acceleration, and looks completely done as a top-flight footballer. Maybe in a slower league, he'd still do well, but not in the PL, against physical defenders. He's done.

Lukaku's a bit of a conundrum. His touch is genuinely awful, but give him a half chance and he's a pretty good finisher.

Rashford a little bit selfish, and Pogs was shackled. Overall, I thought Southampton pressed us really well, and gave our midfield no time on the ball whatsoever. Add on two worldies from them, and a large chunk of our first teamers missing, and it's more trouble than necessary.

There's a bunch of negative shite posted on here during and after every game. To pick on my post, which was positive, is fecking bizarre, but crack on.

I brought you up on your post because generally speaking you're a pretty reasonable poster, looks like I might have to revise that.

Flawless logic. They spent that 30 minutes on the edge of that box did they? and managed to force a whopping 1 run-of-the-mill save from DDG. You know that's bullshit. We were creating chances, something Southampton didn't do, during this period. We should have been at least 2-0 after 15 minutes.

OGS deserves a lot of credit for that win. That was a sophisticated tactical change going to a 3-5-2, moving Andreas up, Pogba back, and putting Dalot on the wing. I really thought Young would play forward and Dalot at right back when the sub was mentioned. Good stuff from OGS.

Dalot did more in his first ten minutes then Sanchez did in the first half. It's quite possible that is the last we will see of Sanchez especially if his injury keeps him sidelined for a month. If OGS becomes permanent, and I don't see how he doesn't get the job, I hope his first move is to change some people in the scouting department. Sanchez and Fred are just inexcusable mistakes. Most knew that Sanchez was on his last legs but not our scouts.

McTominay looked really good until he hurt his neck and the match changed when he wasn't himself.

I disagree. It's definitely a nice notion. However, going against the team instructions for the sake of a romantic idea (needed to word that better!) is not good. The fact Pogba took it and there were no arguments is a good sign. No questions asked...just get on with it mantra.

Also, if Lukaku had have taken it and skewiffed it, then it brings negativity all over again. Allow him his game changing day at the office.

How can you complain after a win against a tricky opponent that has only been beaten once in years.

And also with so many injuries and several tired players. A win is a win.

Absolutely. It's been like this for weeks now. Under Jose every now and then a wild game was had, swiftly followed by dire mediocrity at best. United is back, with all the tension and nerves it used to bring.

I'm loving that what I wished for might yet come true. Us 4th, Tottenham 5th...just to put well and truly to bed the idea of Poch being a shoo in ahead of Ole. But us 3rd and them 5th is absolutely fine by me!

Some might say Ole had a bit of luck today (some great quality goals) to get out a jam but good managers tend to look a bit lucky at times.

He's certainly getting his fair share of late. But each consecutive tweak he made turned to goal. Pereira more central areas in the second half....goal and as assist. Dalot on the right....assist and time and again opening up space not previously there. Pogba further forward at the end, pivot and more danger. Fred brought on...assist for the winner. Unbelievable.

Lukaku finished well. It's obvious he's a finisher but can't control well.

Pogba should be taken off pens tbf.

Shaw was good. Andreas (beside his goal) was terrible, so many misplaced passes and losses of possession.

Dalot coming on changed the game, Sanchez is a curse.

Decent overview. Pereira for his goal and assist was brilliant. Everything else was very ropey. But given the eventual difference his contribution made I'll cut him slack.

How good is Shaw of late?! Dalot is going to be the most dynamic and vital signing we've made in the coming years.

Agree that Pogba should be taken off penalties or at least completely change his run up. Some might argue that if he's in control of his run up and most of his eventual strikes are with conviction and accuracy, then what's the problem. I just feel that run up has potential to add a randomizer to an already nervous situation.

Hahah for once no, I am glad to report. Two stunningly precise right foot finishes. Finishes from rare opportunities that the likes of Aguero and Nistelrooy and so on would be proud of.
