Sunderland 2:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Gutted. Feel so deflated right now.

We've had some good performances lately and were unlucky not to beat Chelsea. I thought a win today, with the top four all facing off tomorrow, would act as a great catalyst. It really was a must-win game.

Thought our first-half performance, after conceding such a shocking goal, was pretty decent. We got back into it, got a goal to bring things level, and bossed large periods. But Christ almighty, that second half performance left a lot to be desired. Oddly enough, the likes of Borthwick Jackson and Love did alright. It was the stars - Rooney, Smalling, Schneiderlin, Memphis - who failed to match Sunderland in terms of desire.

I was looking forward to watching all the games tomorrow but may now give them a miss. Top four is surely gone. Sigh.

Didn't LvG say something like "our form in 2016 is that of a title winning club"? Maybe the points were pretty good in 2016 but anyone, especially the manager, who thinks we were playing good enough to win the EPL is just stupid.

Stating the obvious here but unfortunately that was a must win game and we messed it up big time, very depressing. This all stems from trimming the squad so much in the summer, stupid decision and we are now left having to throw youngsters in to massively important games. The injuries have been ridiculous too but we've had to put up with that for years and should have been better prepared.

If we somehow manage top four now it won't be because we deserve it, it will be because one of the teams above us implodes and hands it to us. Really bad all round, clearly we should have made managerial changes a while ago and now it's looking too late to do much to stop this.

Great win. Top of the league, comfortably ahead on points and looking good for another title. Wait, that's Fener. Sorry.

When it gets to the point that it's predictable, the anger's subsided and I just shrug my shoulders at United right now.

I just don't care anymore....I have come to expect mediocrity. And LvG is giving it to me every week

I said in the matchday thread that I have gone past anger stage now. Just dreading each game as it comes.

Watching MUTV and they've just said, 'interstingly enough United had 66% possession today.'
No. It's not interesting. I don't give a flying ferret about flipping possession. I care about goals, excitement and fight. We are bang average at the minute. You can stick your possession stats right up your stats trumpet you twatbadgers!
Yeah, not interesting at all. It's almost as if we set out to retain possession and the other side was happy to let us keep most of the possession and hit us on the counter- in other words, what's been happening all season.

A dreadful performance at the end of a week that institutional shareholders didn't raise questions about LVG. At least Moyes was consistently bad, whereas this Dutch clown has managed to be inconsistently poor and poorer. It's like a Big Ron season without Robbo battling away for us. The whole set up has to change before we helter skelter into abject mediocrity. Oops we've reached that point - now where?

Sunderland had a bit of luck but we were poor. Far too slow and laborious. Second half was back to our bad old ways and it's not good enough from the players. I don't care if they are fighting for survival. You have to fight to get in the top four and continually this season, we've seen these performances of no urgency and not doing the things that were working. When we scored, we should have stepped up a gear or two but just not good enough.

We were lucky they didn't get two penaltys because it was hands in the box two times from us. Also lucky they didn't score more than they did.

We were terrible and we didn't deserve anything except maybay a bigger trashing from them.

Memphis: what does he offer? He doesn't provide attacking intent and certainly doesn't chase back. Shouldn't be near the first team. Without Martial and De Gea, we are just a team of James Milners, as good as Liverpool. Get LVG out now, PLEASE. I cannot watch anymore. Come on Shrewsbury, bury the Dutch Dinosaur. Can't wait for Arsenal at home too.......0-0 anyone after a few bad results?! FFS.

Just when you think were turning a corner we go and drop another 5 points from the last 2 games, to lose to Sunderland when it was a must win game is unacceptable. Wtf has happened to us, we were awful.

I'm in no way blaming De Gea as he's been the one guy who's stood up to be counted but he's just posted a tweet about how the team have to react to get United where they belong.

I'm fecking sick of these lines from the players, every time we lose one of them comes out saying we'll put it behind us and how we have to show our quality in the next game before we inevitably play shit and they're mate has to then say the same thing.

With Cameron Bortwick-Jackson, Donald Love, Jesse Lingard and Will Keane on the pitch, it's a result to be expected in truth.

How about with Rooney, Carrick, Schneiderlin, Smalling and Blind?

I liked when we brought Depay on to play in Martial's position so Martial couldn't get in the game anymore...because that was clearly the main problem we were having in this game...Martial getting the ball too much.

Why wouldn't you take Schneiderlin or Carrick off in this game? One was invisible and the other was so off the pace it was genuinely insulting.

He might be our best midfielder when he bothers to turn up, but there are certain games where Michael Carrick deserves to have one of his team mates come over and smack him one in the face, and today was one. He seems to think he's just allowed to not bother playing with any urgency and that the rest of the game should wait for him. Then throws his arms around and mopes like a sulking teenage girl when this doesn't happen.

How about with Rooney, Carrick, Schneiderlin, Smalling and Blind?

To be fair, of those four, only Smalling has played well with any degree of consistency at all, and even he isn't exactly reliable. I mean look at the second goal. Schneiderlin has yet to do anything at all to suggest he doesn't belong in the Lingard list.

We need a good old mob. Who's got the torches and pitchforks?

We need some banners being flown over OT again.

Man would I like to see LVG being booeed for 90 minutes the next home game and getting thrown some rotten tomatoes at his head. That would send a clear message.
