Post-match discussion

Hang on, note your point about hoof ball and agree that United shouldn’t play this way all the time. That said, the game was so tight yesterday and congested in midfield yesterday that going long to our CF wasn’t a bad tactic. Why is an effective tactical move in the right circumstance so negative? And the move was pretty awesome: great pass by De Gea, pretty slide off by Lukaku and then Martial with the cool finish.

City to be honest have better players at this point, especially at the FBs where they generate so much offense. Do agree with you bottom line that we can be more adventurous but at this stage in our development, would take that performance and result last night all day. What was harder to stomach was the way we played at Liverpool.
Yeah, I've just watched highlights back and was probably a bit harsh yesterday. We were better than I thought. Still we urgently need an upgrade on mkhi at the creative heart of the team and at least one new full back.

I am not surprised. One was a Liverpool player and a now a fan and Redknapp was a Spurs Manager. Lampard was the odd one out being Jose's player at Chelsea. Yesterday was not boring at all. It was poor football for sure especially in the first half but it takes two to tango. We won the game and late in the game and we had the much better chances too.

This is like a Spike Milligan novel.

When we defend well it is called " parking the bus" . When other teams park the bus it is called very good defending".

To quote Milligan, he had to face a court-martial during the second the 2nd World War for " running away in the face of the enemy".
His defence was that " when one platoon runs away it was called retreating". When one man retreats it is called running away. He was simply retreating".

We've got a really good thing going with Martial and Rashford alternating off the bench. One comes on fresh to terrorise the jaded defenders and this has been the difference in several wins this season.
Yea it cant be overlooked, its a tactical masterstroke to use Rash to run the legs off them and Tony with a bit more guile finds that bit of extra space he does not seem to get when starting. Still should start Tony M against Benfica. Keep them both fresh.

Glaston has done his usual disappearing act
hmmmm... I think i will look him and his pals up. They deserve to be reminded of this before the constant mouthing off. No point in them being here if we cant rub their noses in it once in a while.

It was a huge win for us, but I must say Mkhi was missing again. We need an upgrade on him and Mata. Pogba back next week I hope. We need him badly.

That should put the Spurs fans back in their box for a while.

Big win considering they were there for the taking quite oddly. Delle Alli is really unlikable isn't he?

Great to see Bailly back and Matic was brilliant he was simply everywhere it seemed.

Lovely assist and goal, Lukaku had tried the flick on/knockdown a few times earlier in the game so it must have been in the plans to begin with.

An important win, in shocking conditions. I think we could/should have played the conditions better, but they are a decent side, so a good, battling 3 points. It was never going to be a classic, but there was some decent stuff played by both sides.
I just hope I dry out in time for work tomorrow

Of course Mcmanaman is going to say that, he supports Liverpool. A club that has forgot how to win trophies. They would rather play good football and win nothing when it suits them. If they were winning trophies and not playing amazing then they wouldn’t complain.

Yeah Liverpool are very entertaining, for rival fans anyway. Getting their hopes up every season just to be shown how mediocre they actually are. It is funny because United have a league goal difference of 18 better than Liverpool, but they are entertaining and we are not, delusional.

Harry Redknapp has zero clue about winning trophies either, fraud of a manager.

The vast majority of posters are happy that we won. I'm not sure what's the point of posts like these. These days there's far more people complaining about perceived negativity than actual negativity on the Caf.

You obviously haven’t looked through this thread then. Not just after the Spurs game either, people this last fortnight have had a massive meltdown. We drew with Liverpool and lost to Huddersfield, but people were behaving like we were bottom of the league. Being second and 5 points off a City team who are scoring for fun is not bad considering the 3 years before Mou arrived.

hello lads

me and my friend went to OT yesterday for the spurs match and after the match we got interviewed live by MUTV to give "fans reaction to the match". Can someone tell me where i could watch the video of our interview or if its uploaded on the internet ?

Good win! We played better than them, true they were comfortable in possession, but other than Allis chance, they didn’t really do much. Chelsea next

fecking hilarious how teams play 3 in midfield or 3 at the back against us and people want us to open up and expose ourselves, considering we only have 2 midfielders to play with. Complete morons who know nothing about football.

When these games are deadlocked, the other teams barely ever change their shape and would rather the game ended a draw. Somehow it's always Mourinho's fault games play out like this.

Not exactly lucky, but not exactly deserved either. An even game between two teams who didn't play well and either side could have nicked it. In the end our better squad depth up front was probably the difference.
Of course it was deserved! We created more chances in the second half than they did. They barely had a sniff all game with the exception of the Alli chance.... and we scored one more goal than they did.

He says better squad depth up front even though Spurs had both Son and Llorente as replacements for Kane.

Of course. It's always Mourinho's fault. He's a tactical manager who changes the team's shape to negate the opposition. Of course the critics will say 3 at the back is a negative tactic ignoring the fact that Spurs often play 3 at the back.

A win, an ugly win but a win nonetheless. The rest doesn't matter, this team isn't good enough for the title but I don't care about this at the moment, this win guarantees me a good mood for the rest of the day :D
I don't think it was an ugly win at all. Fergie used to get wins like this against the top teams more often than not. It was a hard fought win against a title rival. Will we win the title? Probably not but more because City are blowing teams away than us being inadequate as a team.

And Lukaku's header that hit the post?
Not to mention Lingard who was clear through on goal. Easily the best chance of the match. No surprise that he blew that over the top though.

Mourinho needs to figure out a way to incorporate Martial and Rashford in the same 11. It’s cruel to Tony that he comes in the last 20 minutes and has to contribute to make an impression in limited minutes. He’s played well in his limited role but the boy clearly needs to start.

That was a good win against a very good team even without their best player. Both teams wanted to win but, also very mindful of the other's quality.

The Spur's game and the game against Liverpool has shown a few things.
1) We need Pogba back for that added quality going forward or at the very least the likes of Fellaini and Carrick back to give us the option of playing 3 in midfield to have better control in these bigger games.
2) That player behind Lukaku needs to have far more quality/impact on games. Right now Mkhi is really off form or just not the right player. Would love to see Mata given a chance there with the likes of 2 of Martial, Rashford, Lingard supporting Martial from out wide. There just isn't enough influence right now from that positon.
3) Valencia and Young providing the width with 3 in the back is very good but, we've got to have the defenders be more effective at bringing the ball out. Mourinho needs to find a way to get them confident to do that, even if it means some misplaced passes. Right now it's too easy for teams to sit back and have us pass it sideways and back and then eventually just have to punt it up.

Good win and hopefully we can build upon it because next weekend is going to be a tough one for sure.

Exactly. I am still in a good mood :D

Ahhh after a long while lurking my first post here i think anyway on to it. Im a bit saddened at the persecution complex some of the posters here have we played scared long ball for 45min against a side missing their strongest offensive threat at home and deserve to be criticized we are Man Utd ffs. In the second half we showed we actually can play football with spurs and the resulting pressure saved us 3 points. Jose will say he proved the doubters wrong but if we wont commit to playing like a top team over the course of the season our league position will reflect it.

I am pretty satisfied with our Performance. They have been missing their best Player but so have we.
The first half was not very great to watch but in the second we clearely were the better Team. I did not expect us to win but our defense was very solid.
Attacking wise we could do better. How on earth Martial is not a starter is very strange to me. Mkhi Needs to improve but I don't think he was as bad as some are saying. He tried to break through or Play the final ball but failed most of the time.
For me he still should start ahead of Lingard and Mata (and also Özil). He also seems to miss Pogba quite badly as he was at his best when Pog played behind him.

We are 5 points behind MCFC.
We lost important players, but these are all due back in November.
MCFC have not yet had a bad patch or gone through an injury crisis like we have.
And you are giving up on the title already?

I've followed football since 1995. So, 22 years?
And if I learnt anything it's that titles are not won by the end of October.

I'm not giving up on anything. I'm still quite positive about us under Mourinho. Having said that we aren't favourites for the title. City are.

I've followed football since '76 so try go patronizing someone else...

So true. We even had teams that were running away till December only to flop after new year. If this is April, yes, I would say it would be very hard for us but 5 points are not that much at the moment. There are still plenty of games to go.

About yesterday, was a great one. Clearly we are missing Pogba. Someone that operates well within CM area and provide that extra physical abilites like Fellaini in midfield of 3. I would say if we had Carrick yesterday, we might be playing much better with him operating deepest of midfield of 3 while Herrea and Matic to provide cover for him. As of now, Pogba is route 1 and a team with Carrick in a midfield 3 would be route 2.

I don't know if McManaman is as one eyed as people on here will suggest.
He did stitch them up and leave them without a transfer fee when he swanned off to Madrid after all. That wasn't the stuff of a great local boy.

Beglin is the one I usually found fairly neutral in our games at least (obviously very pro them when doing their games), but Saturday he was obsessed with our players going down easily, even though it was Alli who dived

This is a match that lasts at least 90 minutes. We need to outscore the opponents in 90 mins. So I feel that Jose is doing what is required to win the game in 90 minutes and not go crazy in the first 10 mins and get knackered later in the game.
This is exactly why we play at a hectic pace in the first fifteen minutes and then slow down. That first 15 minutes is to see if we can score a goal. If we don't we ease the throttle back and cruise. Then when the other team is tired after their non stop running and pressing, Martial or Rashford will come on and use the space now available and score.
Not playing Martial, and Rashford and Lukaku is better for the team than playing all of them together.

Another borefest. This long ball stuff is not the football dreams are made of. Let Jose see his contract out, he'll have won some trophies and let's get an attack minded manager. This is not our DNA and never will be
I sincerely hope you'll stay in the newbies for quite some time.

I hear Andreas Perreira is doing really well at Valencia.

I watched this it was cringe mcmanaman and redknapp two absolute plonkers and lampard is a feckig spineless media boy now he is cringing when they were saying dumb shit and then didn't have the guts to disagree.

The media are fecking clowns don't know why people get upset about it feck them

Beglin is usually good I agree.
In fairness Herrera young and miki all had moments of diving I only remember one from Alli so hE had a point I thought.

Liverpool fans in the media in trying to create a problem for united shocker. Its clear they are a bit rattled that we have the manager who can win games and knows how to defend, they had waited all their life for fergie to retire and finally win the elague and come so close with brendan. Now having an attacking manager who cant defend to save heavy metal music, they try to unsettle and create a wave of jose plays negative football to turn fans against the club. Poor sods dreamt of their team winning the elague finally and now have to face an idea that united might be competing for the elague again after winning 2 trophies last year.

Defenses win you leagues, we seem to have found a good combination in that. First objective is to finish in top 4/3. That will happen if we dont concede. There are only 10 games vs the other top 6 clubs, that is 30 points, you try and win the home ones and draw away ones and destroy every team below top 6 and you wont be far from winning the league. It has worked for mourinho earlier and he will trust this formuale. Who wants to learn about football from serial losers anyway?

I don't give a flying fe*k about how we play as long as we win. Specially against the top teams. After that there's always so much butthurt from other fans that it's even more enjoyable. So I'm delighted with the win and very happy for Martial.
