No we didn't, we scored, defended and won the game. One could also say Spurs were lucky not to concede 3 or 4 more but I guess some people will only ever be pessimistic.

It was incredibly shaky toward the end and didn’t have to be because we did look comfortable for over half the game and should have padded our lead. Top teams have to be able to soak up pressure for periods without giving up that many clear cut chances but and our back 4 wilted mentally imo. I do agree that it was by no means a smash and grab and we completely outplayed them for a good stretch of the game.

Yes, indeed. I would have liked to see Mike Phelan more involved with Ole.

During the first half, Ole got tactics spot on to nullify Totenham’s diamond. But second half
They switched to 4-2-3-1 and we were being overrun un midfield over and over. As someone said, Fellaini would have been a good sub at that time. Ole’s subs were good, but the formation didn’t change in response to Totenham’s tactics. We just became more and more defensive toward the end.

It is telling that during the first half, we saw Poch’s assistant looking at a tablet and pointing out something to Poch in a tablet. During the second half, we saw the same with Ole in a discussion with his assistant, but with a small notebook on hand. Maybe instead of bringing in Poch we should try to hire his assistant to help out Ole.

David Moyes, is that you? An iPad will sort us right out.

1-0 is 1-0 in a big game. Spurs generally don't score unless it's v smaller teams like Watford with tap ins.

Asian cup Pundit "the sacked one" is hurting, he and his fanboys
hard luck to Jose's fanboys who was waiting for us to fall today to stick their knives in Ole.

Huge win, played very well first half and clever in our tactics but we tired in the second half along with Spurs playing very well.

A night to enjoy though :D:devil:

Made up with that. It was nerve wracking at times in the second half and took De Gea's brilliance plus poor finishing to keep it 1-0 but can't not expect them to go hell for leather.

Ole's tactics definitely worked a treat in the first half and that front four looked a constant threat once again.

But it's only Spurs ;)

Is there any better sound than the Spurs fans giving DDG grief for taking his time over the goal kicks? Music to my ears.

Amazing game. We went there with a smart tactical approach which favoured our attacking players and nullified Spurs midfield. It resulted in us taking the lead right before half time. Away from home we attacked and could have gotten 2-3 more goals right after half time, if not for a few great Lloris saves. We didn't get the second goal from those chances and lost control in the midfield so we needed to dig in and fight for it playing away from home. Well deserved win, but we do need to bring in a couple of defenders

Great game. I would say without jones we would have conceded far less chances. A solid and composed centre back would make a big difference. If we can get one this window I.e. koulibaly. That would be great. Funny enough, Smalling has been injured through Ole’s tenure so far. I think that he would actually make a huge difference in the interim, whilst we get someone new. Him and Lindelof, could be a solid combination under solskjaer.

Let’s see

De God.

Thank god Tottenham can't finish properly.

Nonsense. Many of their finishing was on pint. Dave says you're welcome.

Rashford with a brilliant run and finish. Egg on my face, the kid is brilliant.

People saying we could have lost 3-0, 4-0. We also could have converted 1 or 2 of those early chances and absolutely slaughtered them on the counter. Pogba also had two good chances early on in the second half that Lloris saved and yet no one is mentioning that.

This game, a bit like Arsenal away last season, showed the value of using possesion to create genuine chances and being clincial when they come by.

Great first half, tired second. On another day we would've lost the lead with the sitting deep approach. feck it though, gotta enjoy the good days. 7 from 7!

Pogba is a beast, Rashford is a lion, De Gea is a GOD

To put into perspective how brilliant De Gea was here.

Spurs probably had at least four or five "better" chances than our goal, De Gea kept them all out, Lloris failed to replicate the same with our one clear cut goal scoring opportunity.

The difference between a very good goalkeeper and the best in the world. Really good away win.

Great performance acknowledging of course that we are the first team to ever get a bit of luck to win a game.

The players looks so free and positive, if only we'd have got rid of the miserable one a few months earlier than we did.

It was a big win and yes we were under pressure in the second half, however, we did not concede and how many of us would have thought with our defensive record prior to December that we would go to Spurs and come away not only with 3 points but a clean sheet. I guess not many of us.

This game reminds me of when we played Arsenal in the champions league a few years ago under Ferguson, we hit them on the break to devastating effect. Ollie is the man at the moment and he could be the man for the job. Most United fans would love one of our own landing the job, i think we're six of all these mercenaries coming in and not delivering.

Point, obviously. Mind You, I may have had a few of the former.

I thought Alli, Kane (87th min) and Llorente should've done much better, Alli and Llorente more or less pass the ball to him while Kane's finish has enough pace on it to be dangerous but it's too close to De Gea.

Harsh as you judge him by different standards. You wouldn't expect any other GK in the world to keep a clean sheet today, though, that's why this was a monster of a performance. Lloris was fantastic, too. Kept it alive for them at 1-0 a couple of times at least.

Why would my assessment be harsh?

I agree he's clearly MOTM, but it's clearly the case he didn't make a single save that we haven't seen him from many times before.

I am bloody ECSTATIC with that result and performance. Went toe to toe with one of the best sides in the league, away from home and didn't just park the bus. We looked lethal on the break, De Gea was incredible and we just looked assured and in control. We got our United back! Tactical masterclass from OGS there, proving anyone wrong who thought he had done well because he had had it easy. Making a real case for taking the full time job here. Brilliant
I loved it when, instead of bringing on a defender Ole opted to simply try a different attacking approach and sent Lukaku on for Martial. Ole proved today that hes got more than just a smile and sunny disposition, he can do tactics and strategy too!

No one talks about the two brilliant saves by Lloris from Pogba. This was all before their onslaught on our goal. If they had gone it we would have been 3-0 up.

Well that was a qualified success for Ole for me.

Great initial tactical plan worked well in the first half. We could have scored a couple more on the break too but we didn't seem to respond to Spurs tactical changes in second half for quite a while.

To be fair to Ole he can't have expected Lukaku to have been so ineffectual when he had the perfect opportunity to play to his strengths with space behind Spurs and the chance to counter quickly.

Ole has got the team performances to improve and has shown good tactical preparation. Over the next few weeks I hope he can demonstrate the necessary stamina for the role long term and show some good tactical adaptation within a game.

Ole always put a smile on my face as a player....today the smile was a nervous twitchy one but still way better than the risk averse approach the "translator" favoured.

Both teams (tried to) played high intensity game, but Spurs team who played it for few seasons already lasted longer than United.

Hopefully, with proper pre seasons, they will be able to maintain the intensity longer/better.

I think Woodward and United should stop throwing out other names, Simeone, Southgate, Zidane etc and let Ole get on with the job of managing us, then, if he manages to rescue what was a doomed season, and I think he can, he should be considered for the job full time. Ole is one of the most modest, polite men in the game but even he must get pissed off when he hears Woodward is courting other mangers in case Potti says no! Ole has the rest of the season to prove hes the right man for the job, and I admit I for one never considered him before because he doesn't make waves, doesn't shout the odds and doesn't blow his own trumpet, so let him do it without having to look over his shoulder to see who else may be in line for the job!

Lads, our defenders are doing back heels! It’s night and day.

Last 5 minutes, when we probably should have kept the ball and ran for the corner flags, nah, rashford was trying nutmegs and going for the by line, we were still hunting goals!
And it’s beautiful.

Alright, we hung on a bit for 20 minutes in the second half but we could have scored another goal or two also with the chances.

And the counter attack is looking like Man United again too.

Brilliant result. I hope we can get 4th.

Oh and I think if we could add someone like koulibaly, we would be even better.

It could be argued that Mourinho’s demise began in this fixture last August. United slipped to a 3-0 home defeat to a side that had invested nothing in the summer, and the club’s public response was baffling. Luke Shaw hailed an “outstanding” first half, while Mourinho said “we were so, so, so, so, so, so good”. The Portuguese then used the scoreline to point out how many Premier League titles he had won in comparison to his counterparts.

Even after the game many others indulged in the suggestion that United had been excellent in the first half, and that it proved Mourinho could still be a success. Again, this was a side that had been drawing a match 0-0 at half-time before going on to lose by three goals at home.

United had two shots on target in the first half of that Old Trafford defeat, conceding one. They had three shots on target in the opening 45 minutes here at Wembley, allowing none and scoring once. If they were “outstanding” five months ago, they were bloody sensational here.

I agree with @Amadaeus more, lucky win IMO. Now I missed the first half hour but the amount of chances Spurs had it cannot be a great performance.

Having said that I'll take a lucky manager over a good manager.

And you have to say Spurs played very very well.

Hard to comment about the performance without watching the 1st half.

Great to get another win for several obvious reasons. We scored a fantastic goal, the best I've seen in a while from us.DDG was great, saved us in the 2nd half when to be honest we were overrun.Lindelof, Matic, herrera, Pogba, Martial and Rashford were all very good.
Lukaku looked like a fish out of water when he came on.

After todays performance I believe that Lukaku's time at Utd., may end at the end of this season. I do not think he has the ability to fit into a quick moving and alternating positioning game that Ole seems to be adopting. He appears to be on occasions very static, he lacks the deftness of foot for the quick one two, and this is only my opinion lacks the ability to think ahead of where the ball will be and moving or positioning his body to receive that ball.

Argeed totally, if we had a solid CB pairing back there we would look so much better but Jones is dogshit.
Pity Smalling is injured, it would be interesting to see how he would play under Ole

We should do what it takes to move Lukaku this summer.
As soon as he came on today our attack completely stagnated and we might as well been playing with 10 men out there.

Must be so used to us being so overly cautious, in the first half I was perplexed as to how kept seeing Trippier in a position where Shaw was always of 2 minds, go defend him or stay more compact - didn't realize it was Ole's tactic to not have Martial come back and cover, to have him and Rashford be up higher up to have us actually be able to counter-attack, to rely on the other 8-9 players to hold and spring them.

Yes, against good teams not having our wide forwards track back might leave us more exposed but, same time then the other team is also taking the risk of us tearing them apart on the counter - so makes for a very exciting game.

Yes DDG made some very good saves but, also most were expected ones. There were some excellent blocks as well but, they aren't as blatantly goal saving but, nonetheless well defended. Spurs were very good in the second half, best they've played ever according to their manager and they got just the one chance where you say the absolutely should have scored - Dele one on one. We also forced Lloris into 2 very very good saves, so can't say Spurs deserved something from the second half over us and if it weren't for DDG.

The feel good factor is there and team is enjoying themselves with being able to attack quickly but now they have to learn that part of when it's time to be more practical and control the game, make the other team run around a bit and just keep ball. Needed more of that in the second half - hopefully that will come as OGS works with them some more.

There is a lot of football left to play but if we carry on like this we could manage 3rd or 4th. Just need to keep up the momentum.
