Other than the OG, which is the sort of thing that can happen to anyone, I thought Maguire actually had a pretty good game. Didn't put a foot wrong defensively, wasn't mugged in a duel as far as I noticed and contributed quite a lot of incisive forward passing, with less dawdling on the ball than we're used to. I'm calling tunnel vision on his detractors in this one - he's now being watched through shit-tinted glasses.

That’s actually what I’m saying. He’s now at the point where even when he plays well, he’s finding ways to cost us. We could call bad luck on it, but the Mount Rushmore of defenders in the league (VvD, Dias, Silva and Varane) don’t see that happen to them, because their positioning is much better. Fair enough. For some reason I thought we were talking about the UK. My mistake. I can’t imagine viewership is high outside of China, discounting the olympics. I don’t think participation is a fair comparison given the difference needed in amount of players and equipment.

That was my view as well.
Yes of course it was better than against City. But then City are a significantly better team at pressing than Tottenham. And Fred had a good game in midfield.

Ball retention is important. But only if it hurts the opposition.
Apart from those excellent Ronaldo goals, we were not retaining the ball in the key areas.
