Watford 2:4 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Good game to watch, but could have done without the sleepwalking for much of the second half. Also nice to see some genuinely brilliant performances from some unheralded players - Young and Lindelof.

Lukaku really has gone off the boil though, and Matic wasn't having a great game either.

Lastly, what a collection of goals.

That was a hell of a game! Fantastic first half from us, would never have expected to be 3 up against this Watford side. What should have turned out to be an easy win, turned out to be a very tight match. Lukaku missing his one on one, then Watford responding with two goals, really put us under pressure. But Lingard was absolutely superb for that last goal, what a run!

Ashley Young rightfully gets MOTM but Martial was great and I thought Pogba was very classy too. Lukaku unfortunately will invite more pressure upon himself with that dreadful miss, when he actually played a good game up until that point.

People are being way too harsh on Lukaku, it was his best game in a long time but with a terrible miss thrown in.

He made some strong runs and intelligent passes, kept the Watford CBs occupied and allowed Martial and Lingard to roam into space.

It's not his fault that after failing to make it 4-0 Rojo gave away a daft penalty.

Poor all round play but some great goals dug us out of trouble.

Encouraging from Lindelof. Matic can't come back quick enough.

It looks like MU are getting their mojo back. What a difference Rojo is making at left back. Lindelhof had a good game and I can see we are getting it together again. Also will have an extra day of rest against Arsenal.

Great result, more so after Tottenham lost! Now we must beat Arsenal to continue gaining points on our rivals. :)

Everyone played well especially young, Lingard and Lindelof!

Lukaku is going through a bad patch but all strikers go through them! It doesnt matter when the rest of the team are chipping in with some!

Great passion from Jose ripping into Rashford for not getting back into the action after giving the ball away.

Hopefully Matic isnt too serious then its the same starting 11 away to the Arse!

On a day where lukaku and Ibra were shite (granted Ibra barely had time to warm up, but he lost the ball every time he touched it) we scored 4 epic goals.

Entertaining game, some clinical finishing. But I think that time is upon us where Lukaku needs to be benched with Martial in forward position. His touch, composure and confidence has totally deserted him and Utd can not afford to carry luxury players.

Very good result. Watford are no walkovers. Positives, Lindelöf had his best game for us. We have a great defence - albeit for a moment of madness by Rojo. He had a game until that time. Hope Matic doesn’t have a groin injury as unfortunately we lost some composure after Herrera’s introduction to the game. Lukaku could have done better but he had a role in 2 goals. He’ll be back to scoring soon. Onwards and upwards.

Wow. That super positive post lifted my spirits

Ok, let me spin it for you.

Remember back in the day trying to chase a Chelsea team, they are drawing nil-nil and you're thinking, "almost there, they are dropping 2 points and have no traction in the game, this looks likely to happen" only for some Lampard double deflection after a corner bounced in the box 5 times goal. That annoyance from such an even that would annoy the shit out of you, well that's us now, think how everyone else feels.

Lukaku was horrible, Pogba wasn't really into the game. Lindeloff is growing into the game (thank God), Young was brilliant, so was Lingaard. Overall a decent performance from United. Watford played really well, never gave up.

Very good from the 15th-60th min. Once martial came off our attack kinda stopped producing and with matic off our midfield opened up gaps. Still should've scored through lukaku and that would've made the end routine, but alas he faffed about and almost cost us the game with that miss (and the subsequent dumb penalty by rojo).

Young was class, martial brilliant throughout, lindelof excellent. Lukaku first half pretty good, 2nd half pretty shite. Ibra looked like he didn't want to break a sweat so tried to do as little as possible. Matic and pogba decent, nothing special but not bad overall. Lingard did well and got the brilliant goal to clinch it for us.

Not a fan at all at how much Mourinho likes pulling back after a few goals. It's unnecessary. Just play normally and if you concede, just keep possession. Don't give the opposition the chance to create chances and get back in it like we did today. Keep the ball and kill them off.

Fair result in the end. Watford were the better team in the first 15 and for parts of the second half. Lukaku is making me really tired of him although he had some good passes.

Young MOTM. If not for two pieces of brilliance from him we might have drawn this in the end.

It was a top counter-attacking performance. Watford looked out of their depth for majority of the game.

That's sort of the problem though.

So many dumb players in our team who lose focus at the drop of a hat. Some of them are good enough that it's forgiveable, Pogba is one of the best midfielders around for example and nobody would argue otherwise. Others...well Young shows the value of professionalism and commitment. Many better players than him have come and gone over his time here, but not many can say they've achieved such a level of consistency despite being shunted around all over the place. I really miss Fergie.

Lingard showing both Mata and Mhiki how to play as a 10... definately take him in the number 10 over Mhiki and not just because of the goal. Lingard had great movement all night, and tracked back properly with effort compared to the other two and played a part in 2 goals and scored.

Thought we'd drop so very satisfied with that.

And Ashley Young, what is he on these days?

Very good first half, poor second half. Again Jose's tactics spoiling an otherwise good performance. Lukaku looks like he needs a rest. We have the talent to keep possession with arguably the best midfielder in Pogba, but decides to just sit back and invite pressure. I just hope Jose tries to play positive football when we have such a big goal lead.

Thats 2 games in 3 where we've scored 4 goals.
Its ridiculous quite frankly.
We obviously took our foot off the gas to conserve energy imo, its the smart (and risky) thing to do.

Reminded me a bit of the not too long ago United matches. Opposition scores, we're under pressure and then we go and do something like score when you least expect it. Been missing for a while.... not too good for the heart though!
