Watford 2:4 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

3-0 by half time, Watford got 2 goals close together and we responded by scoring another to show our dominance.

'worrying signs'
'flattering to deceive'
'false dawn'
'blessing in disguise'
'elephant in the room'

It’s so fecking boring. Not to mention disrespectful towards the opposition. I thought Watford were very good. We beat a decent team tonight.

Oh and we scored 4 goals. Agains. Worrying signs indeed.

Oh piss off with the “worrying signs” crap. Some of the recent performances have been a worry. Tonight was anything but. A comfortable win against one of the form teams in the league, away from home. When our away form has generally been poor. Great stuff and nobody should have anything but good vibes about tonight’s game.
Didn't realize you are the authority when it comes to what vibes people should have. Piss off with the turning a blind eye crap. There are players who are not performing, simple as that. There is also a tactical mindset which exposes us and might cost us eventually.

2nd highest goalscorers in the league and there's a thread on here about should Mourinho bring in an attacking coach....
CRYING

Have to agree here. People have jumped to the opposite end of the spectrum and are actually moaning about people moaning !

Good win but flaws still very clearly remain in this team. These people's worries are clearly justified so stop trying to surpress opinions other than your own.

Happy to see less fancied players like Young, Lingard and Lindelof impressing as the early season stalwarts like Lukaku and Matic dip in form. It's a squad game and Mourinho is one of the best at managing his resources.

Most of the time Lingard pisses me off and then the fecker goes and scores a goal like that! ....amazing

Lindelof really stood up today and proved he could be counted on. Excellent performance on probably the form forward in the premier league.

Haven't won at Watford for a few years either.

A thoroughly entertaining match throughout. Both teams played their part. Credit to Watford, they could've easily have given up at 3-0 but they kept going. I wasn't overly impressed at 3-0 that we sat back a bit too much, we should've won by a couple more goals possibly but how often has that been said so far this season.....

Im confused, if you thought we would drop points pre game, how do you complain about winning by 2 clear goals post game? After scoring 4 for the eighth time this season?
We can't complain about Martials treatment, even mocking Jose for buying Lindelof instead of a LB looks a bit tacky at the minute.
I know, lets use the words attacking cohesion and other vague buzzwords to take shots at a side who have scored 4 goals twice in the last 3 league games.
Whats striking to me is the nervous wins v Brighton aren't even the norm yet they're treated as such.

Lindelof, Lingard, Martial and Young were great.
Matic looked knackered and Lukaku was all over the place.
Really fun game.

Was a very enjoyable game of football. Reminded me of Sir Alex Ferguson's last year in charge.

It's nice when you play against a team which doesn't have 10 men in the box.

What?! That is a ridiculously uneducated statement. Just from browsing our last number of results, Newcastle at home has been the only non - nervy win in the past 11 games! Starting with the 0-0 at Liverpool.

Check some facts before you jump aboard the 3 points means Jose is infallible bandwagon.

I'm delighted for the result but belittling our clear problems within the team and scoffing at anyone who dares offer some constructive criticism after a hugely valuable win helps nobody.

Are we second from top or second from bottom? It's hard to tell from the reaction of some on here.
Depressing.

@Irish_Red
More of our wins have come with a comfortable 2 goal plus margin than a nervy 1 goal win.
If you want to argue facts then I suggest
A) Look up the definition of fact
B)Look up our results

This is simply wrong. Swansea wasn't nervy, neither was Tottenham who had one shot on target all game, Benfica after wasn't, Newcastle wasn't.

That's the third season in a row we've conceded a penalty at Vicarage Road, made more frustrating by the fact we're feeding Troy 'the equaliser/cojones' Deeney's goal tally and feelings of self-importance in the process.

On a more serious note though, happy to come away with that win. I'm not sure if it was Matic going off, their double change or both but the lack of control for that last half hour was pretty alarming so the Lingard goal was a real relief. That was an important win I wasn't sure we were going to get before the game.

Great performance, had a poor 10 minutes but recovered perfectly. I don't get why people moan but for some we are going to always be shite.

Put it this way our win tonight was far more convincing than city's on Sunday. We may not have had their controlled levels of possession at times but they were in much greater danger of dropping points than we were at any stage tonight.

@cyberman
Swansea was league cup. Tottenham was any ones definition of a nervy win. You don't see many top teams parking the bus to win 1-0 and saying it was anything but nervy.
I clearly mentioned Newcastle as the exception and as for Benfica I definitely wouldn't say we were fantastic. Even giving you Benfica that's still 8 of the last 10 we've either been outclassed and lost or drew or had a nervy win.

I think that pretty much proves my point. I'm pretty sure that you would not have many supporters in here saying that we've been playing well for the last 10 matches?!

It's tough. Moyes. Van Gaal bore-fests. Cagey Jose giving up on fourth place. There's been so much to bitch about over the last few years. Who expected the league this year, which of us expected perfection? We're banging on 4 goals on a regular basis, new signings finding their feet. Feels positive to me. I'll take the odd dip. I would have killed for a game like that 2 years ago.

Did Tottenham have a shot on target at Old Trafford? Don't get this nervy theme. It's as if people associate conversing possession with it despite the fact when we dominated possession under LvG the same people were furious about not doing anything with it!

Very odd.

That was a brilliant away performance imo .. switched off but who cares, great game of football and we looked cohesive and stylish. No complaints.

We didn't park the bus against Tottenham. We had 45% posession, we had 11 shots to their 13 (just about all of theirs coming from long range), 624 touches of the ball to their 719, we had less clearances of the ball too, 30 to their 33. It was an evenly matched game where their only proper chance all game was the Alli header. That's completely ignoring when we hit the post etc. We didn't park the bus and I didn't find that game nervy at all, their chances were all reduced to hopeful shots from range mostly.

Swansea was still a match. Whether or not we were fantastic at Benfica means feck all, that wasn't your original point. There's a difference between being comfortable and being fantastic.

Also once again I don't agree. Our last 10 games were: Benfica, Huddersfield, Swansea, Tottenham, Benfica, Chelsea, Newcastle, Basel, Brighton, Watford.

Of those games - Benfica was comfortable, Huddersfield was terrible, Swansea was comfortable, Tottenham was comfortable, Benfica was comfortable, Chelsea was terrible (at a stadium we never do well at, honestly when was the last time we won there?), Newcastle was comfortable, Basel was terrible, Brighton was meh and Watford was (except for a parts of the second half when we were obviously conserving energy) - comfortable. That's 6 of 10 being comfortable - also keeping in mind for more than half of those we didn't even have our best player.

Whether or not you find fans who think we've been good over the past 10 games is irrelevant, there's a difference between being great and being comfortable.

Even the difference in possession was minimal. They had 10% more, mostly because they pass the ball around a lot more than we do.

@Irish_Red
To be fair to you I was just thinking league performances since these are the real pressure games, even then Im discarding 5 (?) routine cup and CL wins.
Brighton and Southampton really are examples that prove the rule though. There's no way you were as nervous during those 2 wins as you would be with the others.

I know the run and finish were excelent but I really hope Jose picks out and shows the players the value of picking out a pass instead of clearing when a team has over loaded.

I am sure Herrera didnt even mean to pass to Lingard like that either. But I am tired of seeing stupid clearances when the right pass can make a chance.
