PL W FA Premier League

Watford 2:4 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

We have scored more points in our current season, at this stage, than we have in the last 4 seasons (since SAF left).
We are doing better than we have for long time.
Had MCFC not been flying in a way that is extremely rare, we'd be leading the league.

People need to get some perspective and stop moaning about us scoring 4 goals repeatedly and being in 2nd place.
I've said this in another thread. Being concerned and not wanting us to lose focus does not equal "moaning". Please, stop with the black and white thinking. There is plenty of space between ecstatic and depressed. Also, it's extremely bad manner to build strawmen regarding the 4 goals. Playing well and seeing players performing is enough despite a hypothetical 1:0 victory.

Ashley Young's skimming piledriver changed the dynamic of the game.

Up to that point, we were sluggish, lethargic and lacked sharpness.

But his second injected an ever bigger dose of confidence into our team and we played well from that point on.

This was an excellent victory against awkward, semi-dynamic opponents.

We'll have more even more dynamsism and skill to deal with on Saturday.

So we need to start better.

Apart from that, a vital and, at times, stirring win.

Nice post, the kind of piece a trainee journalist might produce.

Ashley Messi? or Ashley Ronaldo?:p MOTM easily for the 2nd game in a row.Must be in the form of his life right now. Always gave his all for the club whenever called upon. Love characters like him!!

Lukaku needs a rest I guess. Looks tired to me. Herrera's form is going from bad to worse this season. Wtf happened to him??:wenger:

A bit late to the party but what a goal from Lingard. Him and Ashley Young having a goal of the season competition in one game.

Stupid to let Watford back in, Im sure they have a record similar to Liverpool now for getting stupid penalties against us in the same fixture every season.

Should have been 4-0 before Watford got the penalty.

For a team like Watford, beating Arsenal and drawing with Liverpool means they’re a tough nut to crack at home, almost irrespective of other results.
Especially since we are yet to beat any top team convincingly.

What worries me is the inability for Lukaku to hold the ball. He needs to hold the ball and then to bring in the runners like Martial and Lingaard. His inability means that the ball comes back as soon as our defence clears it.
Now I hope that Jose does not play Mata against Arsenal and I felt that we should go back to a back 4 with three midfield players. Rojo is not a left back and plays his best in the CB role of two CBs.

I really didn't have an inkling of how this was going to play out, so I was very happy to see us put up 4 away goals against a very decent opponent. Some really nice goals in there, all of them were highlight-worthy.

Lukaku looked to have a good 1st half IMO but he was really in donkey mode for the 2nd. His form has seriously dropped off the last few weeks and I'm tempted to say that he should be dropped from the squad for Arsenal and brought back to start against CSKA, where he can hopefully start fresh. I would play Martial as striker at the Emirates with Rashford and Lingard as the wingers. Have Ibra on the bench.

We played a very potent counterattacking game but Watford had things too much their way in midfield. When only using 2 (essentially 1 when Pogba moves forward), we're open for when teams flood that area. Matic has been below par the last 2-3 games and I think it's because he hasn't played in a double holding role with Fellaini. Hopefully his injury wasn't serious.

Lindelof has taken some noticeable steps forward in the last 2 games, would love for it to continue. Rojo needs to sharpen up, I thought he was quite sloppy, even if it was his first league game back.
