PL W FA Premier League

Manchester United 2:1 Watford

Post-match discussion

I’d say Ole will have the hairdryer out to be honest. We totally lacked intensity and ideas and we will get beaten by 2/3 at home playing like that against teams with proper quality in the attack. We were lucky to scrape it and much more of that and we are drawing and losing vital games with no margin for error. I mean the players should be totally keyed up but it’s all looking rather flat again. I don’t know why we keep playing mata. I guess it’s to keep lingard fresh. Martial did nothing apart from the scrappy goal and that’s supposed to be our strongest side of the pitch. Our right side is just young over hitting hopeful crosses into nobody. We play at a snails pace and fail to execute even the most simple transitions.

Positives 3 points, 1 less game to play and Luke Shaw. Everything else was terrible going into the level of matches we have to play. Worrying!

Didn't see the game, was Matic really that bad or is it an overreaction? Gotta be worth trying Mctom for a few games if our midfield is failing us again like against Wolves.
Not just Matic. Our entire midfield was hopeless. And then Ashley Young is, well, Ashley Young, a complete mediocre footballer who is a mystery as to how he's a United starter.

That was just awful. Watford rang rings around us. If they had players who were clinical in the final they'd have smashed us 6-2.

I hope Ole improved our football. It's been getting worse and worse.

People need to realize that if Mou was still on board, this would have been a final against a direct rival for the 8th-7th spots. Ugh.
True.

But we shouldn't aspire to Mourinho level peformances either. That was shit and simply not good enough.

You mean we are getting closer to Mou's level (due to the jadedness and injuries)
Sure. Doesn't matter how you put it. Shouldn't be at that level regardless. Ole will know that wasn't rubbish and our peformances need to improve.

I'm not sure any of those games were worse than today. They just had worse results.

We could have lost 4-0 today and had little complaint.

That is a typical phenomenom and one of the reasons why a lot of people always talk about the "good old times, where everything was better" - maybe against brighton/wolves was not worse, but do you not remember the west ham game? Of course, Watford today had more shots, but from anywhere. Only their goal was really a big chance, while we had three big chances. Of course, they had a lot more small chances, but at the end on an normal day you don't produce many goals of these type of chances. On the other side West Ham didn't have a lot of these small chances, but way too many big chances. We defended so bad on that day, i couldn't believe what i saw. Their third goal, just after Rashfords goal, was maybe the worst defending i have seen for a long time.

Just rewatch the highlights of the game...embarassing

Our form post PSG has been very poor and it's starting to get worrying honestly. Top four is a real challenge as it is, with the way we're playing it gets harder. I don't quite understand why players like Matic were brought back so quickly when McTominay was looking very good for us. Herrera doesn't look up to it either, so you add all that and playing Mata and you get what we saw today. Pogba's form and the rumours are worrying too

Didn't see the game, but the feedback is worrying. It's positive we got back to winning ways, but it doesn't sound like I missed much. Not good when people were comparing to a Mourinho win. Hopefully the win restores some confidence and gets us back to where we were previously.

Are the videos now blocked in the uk? Couldn't watch them in the match thread or in this one...

Painful to watch... 3 points... but let's just forget this game and hope we don't play like this against better opposition!

Probably the worst home performance I have ever seen where we still won the game. fecking hell.

I am at a loss here, just how the feck are bang average teams able to just causally stroll through our midfield like that?

If we play remotely like that against Barcelona and City they will rip us a new one. Hope Ole got something up his sleeve to correct this.

That was a Jose like home game. Our home form in general is a bit weird. We seem to play in 1st gear far too often.

The midfield needs serious investment.

Such a bigger summer window coming up.

We never played that bad at home under Jose.

I worry we are starting to rely to much on counter atracking rather than cute play to open defences. Ideally we need to be good at both to win the league.

Do you have an ad blocker running? That can interfere with these videos.
Oh, this fixed it for me. Those videos weren't playing for me for months. Had to copy the video URL and play from there.

Thanks.

It was a frustrating match, very small glimpses of what we can do but majority of the time we played crap. It’s a good thing Ole knows our performance isn’t up to scratch and I’m sure he will be giving them a hairdryer treatment.

What annoyed me was Matic losing the ball easily, Herrera looks replaceable, Pogba went missing, Mata being so damn slow, Young being Young and the team in general with the shoddy clearances and trying to play through balls right to a defender.

Reminded me Aston Villa at home where Macheda scored the famous winner. Every time Watford attacked they looked like scoring.

It's a run in, winning is all thats important at the minute.
Spurs spent 3/4 of the season winning games like that. We need to play ourselves back into form and Lukaku is a vital component it seems.

Absolutely. this season was a write off at one point. All that matters is top 4 and the CL. Once Ole gets in some players to play the way he wants is when we should expect consistency.

Wow, we sleepwalked our way through that game. The midfield was a big problem today. Not sure what to make of them anymore, they are so hot and cold - freakin schizophrenic performances.

The universe balances the Arsenal and Watford games.

On a real though, how does Ole fix this squad save for new players?? What does he really need to do in the summer to start 2019/20 as a better football playing squad?

Pretty poor.. The sort of game you only win 50% of the time. Must do a hell of a lot better.. The midfield were attrocius - I only caught the second half but TFM, Tom Cleverley and Phil Jones could easily top that midfield 3 performance. What's the point?

3 points, fine, but again a little worrying

Ole was pretty honest in summing up the game. Tuesday Wolves we owe them one, so let's see how it goes back down there, lost today, there manager being linked with Chelsea, we need The points.

As painful as anything served up by Maureen or LVG, we looked laboured. Was the same under SAF many times after international break.

3 points is 3 points

Based on our midfield and lack of cutting edge, we should invest solely in our forward line this summer. We can bodge the defence for a season and go big the following summer but we absolutely have to create and score more chances than we currently are.

Poor performance. Lucky to get a win. need to perform better against wolves.

We shouldn’t have won that game. We won that game.

People complaining about midfield need to realize we set up purely to counter attack therefore in attack they were redundant in possession. In terms of defence pogba was a liability and Matic went back to his 18 point turns.

When Herrera performs like that, you wonder why we're making such a fuss over him going.

Trouble with a lot of our squad is when they're bad they're so bad they might as well not be on the pitch. We've got too many players whose form are very spotty.
But we’ve also got too many players who’ve just come back from injury and are not match fit or are still injured
