Post-match discussion

Sun, 15 April 2018

Jose increasingly distancing himself from the players and abdicating responsibility in his post-match comments.

Playing one touch, one pass too many isn’t a new problem, we’ve been guilty of over-complicating our attacking for the best part of the season. It’s on him to sort that out. You can’t just stand on the sidelines saying “I told you so”

I don’t get when people say this, it’s not like they outplayed us.

It was our shit play that gave them the impetus to attack and their confidence grew as the match went on, just like Sevilla.

We barely created any chances as a result of our poor slow play not as a result of West Brom playing amazingly.

I fully blame Mourinho, it’s not as if this is the first time this has happened. We play so slowly, sit deep and stand off of the opposition. Atrocious football with no attacking patterns or fluidity.
They put their bodies on the line. Blocks and clearances, chasing and harrying in midfield all game long. Packed the middle of the pitch and defended every single cross into the box easily.

If they played like that all season, they wouldnt be 20th. That's how they raised their game.

So....our game plan is to have Sanchez, Pogba, Herrera, Matic and Mata all play the ball out to Valencia? Maybe worst crosser in United history?

That was really poor.. No speed, no movement, not width, wingers playing at fullback but playing more like I'd expect centre backs to play at fullback.. Disappointing. Not one highlight really. In the first half with Sanchez being so deep we sort of played 4-4-1-1. At home. Against the bottom side. It's like Rooney never left.
It shouldn't be the plan, but until we replace the fullbacks it will continue. Valencia is absolutely hopeless. He can't beat a man, he can't cross.

Lou Macari has just mentioned a point that I said earlier that they shouldn't be jaded after a rest. My view on the days off and them going off to Rome and Madrid etc is that they lose focus and have come back thinking they can just stroll through the game, which is what Pogba tried to do. They do sod all training this time of year, I would have been hammering into them about finishing strongly.
I really think the problem is that there is no one left there that can get into these guys heads what it means to grace this pitch. Especially on match day that pits us against the team at the bottom of the table - when we need to win to frustrate our bitter rivals. The players rearely respond until they’ve gone down and that tells s story.

I could go on DT but I won’t. Sad day. Things need to change.

Awful game consisting of awful football. No idea when it gets to the box. Mourinho complains of not passing the ball quick enough but starts with a defensive team. What does he expect? If you want the ball moving quicker, start your flair players, Rashford, Martial, Lingard at least they look like they can get past walking speed. The whole plan is disjointed, where is Sanchez’s best position? On the left? So why is he in the middle all the time. Our one striker is out on the wing at times....who’s he gonna cross to in the box? Himself? It’s shambolic.

Nobody wants to blame the ref but we should definitely have had a penalty. The worst part about it was that Rodriguez? got clattered about twenty seconds later close to our box. It was another clear foul and the ref never gave it.

I hate when refs do that. They know they were wrong to not give a decision then decide to make another incorrect decision to make up for it.

Fair enough the ref wasn’t the greatest today but do Man Utd really need penalties to beat Westbrom, relegation fodder.

Well that was down to Mourinho.

The idea seemed to be to cram everyone into the width of the penalty area but not put anyone in a threatening position until the late desperation.

Starting line-up gave us little speed and the substitutions were bizarre.

Would have been the ideal match to start at least one of Martial or Rashford.

Sanchez was atrocious, Lindelof was bullied, Matic was poor, Young wanted too long on the ball.
Lingard replacing Herrera was pointless and Lingard did nothing other than the first 2 minutes after coming on.
Martial gave some urgency but why replace Pogba?

We start with three midfielders and end up with only one for over half an hour - should have taken Mata and Sanchez off.
What we needed was speed and width.

Totally perplexed.

Want to do a shout out to those fans who make an effort every week, forking out thousands a year to watch these pathetic joke of players play. I used to watch us regular many years ago when I lived in Manchester and luckily we had Fergie. Not sure i could drag myself out the house to watch that rubbish anymore whilst paying as much as it costs to do so. These players don't deserve the badge and neither is Jose fit for this club.

After LVG and Mourinho, winning trophies as a barometer is a bit less important don’t you think? Unless you think we can nick a top club’s manager?
You might be right. It’s all moot anyway, we’re not sacking Jose, we’re second in the league and the money men will be happy unless a disaster happens and we finish 5th.

Jose is here to stay for another year or two, I will support him. Poch will be at Real next I reckon.

Yeah his brand of attractive football wins feck all though.

Be careful what you wish for.
Because Mourinho has done so well to win the Europa League and Capital One Cup with United right  Pointless trophies. Not entirely fair to compare Pochettino's lack of trophies either, given a relatively short career so far, and having to compete with others with magnitudes of spending greater then what he can do.

That was so poor I was actually wishing Fellaini was on the bench. It was his type of match - him in the box to knock down balls would have done the trick - we hardly won a single header in either box apart from Matic to set up their goal !! Maybe we will miss him after all !

They're trophies and they are a lot better than nothing, and prove we've still got something. Spurs would love to win something, don't be a brat.

Spoilt as feck. Such a bad post.

Go and support Spurs then.

Interesting match in that it made perfectly clear some of our weaknesses. Too many players who hold onto the ball forever. Too many players that move towards our defenders to receive the ball, rather than making forward runs. Lack of quality in wide positions. Lukaku being a complete disaster defending in our box.

What a joke can’t believe the crap you just spewed out, you must be one of the Jose fan boys. When a player gets to warm a bench for weeks and then gets thrown on to save the manager’s blushes in a poor performing team and doesn’t pull it off it is his fault and he needs to do some soul searching, Wow.
I’m not a fecking fan boy of anyone, I’m a fan of United so you fecking do one.

Is there any players who do understand that? Times are different. Some players are motivated by different things nowadays. Some it is more the glory of promoting their personal profile rather than the glory of playing for United.

Not a snap reaction, been feeling this way for weeks but at this stage, I wouldn’t be upset if Mourinho left in the summer. I’m always of the opinion that you can’t get rid of a manager without a replacement but I’m genuinely worried about any progression under him. Today was just one of many insipid performances this season.

Game raisers! I can’t believe this. I’ve supported the club and the manager all the way but it’s days like this that I start to doubt whether we can ever win another title anytime soon. You win against that lot the other side of the city because you don’t want to hand them the title then you hand it to them at your own ground. They deserve to deduct their wages for this week. I’m also not happy with the CAF, made me register again when I’d already left the newbies

 feck off. Go and support Spurs because I want the manager in charge of United to be brave and develop an entertaining style of play for the team to play. People on here are embarrassing constantly tripping over their own feet to defend Mourinho when he plays shit football and still fails to be successful with it.

Pathetic display due to pathetic tactics from the manager. We are narrow all game with fullbacks too deep to help. Martial comes on and never once tries to take his fullback on the outside. What exactly were his instructions? 'I want you to go on the pitch and do exactly the same thing as everyone else because that's got to work eventually'

With these kinds of performances and we still can manage to finish second above a magical liverpool side like some already recognized them as Euorpean champions and also above Spurs. Wow.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Jose and his favorite hirsute Belgian in PSG next season.

Whatever happens we need to repair the damage that Moyes did with his clean sweep removing all the trainers coaches that can transmit the gravity of being a Manchester United player as opposed to a Jose Mourinho player.

I'm not about jumping on Martial, because everyone was awful. Martial is shit at taking opportunities though.

With those quotes the offseason/time after our inevitable loss against Spurs in the FA Cup is going to be interesting. Jose has already broken bridges with a lot of players it seems. Either the board supports him and replaces half the squad or simply moves on from him. I know we just extended him but it we look bad in the FA Cup and limp into 3rd/4th place I could see it happening.

I'm sorry but to constantly blame the manager when there's a disagreement is the reason why players have such an ego. Why has "Jose broken bridges" with Pogba say if Pogba is the one who isn't contributing at his best level and constantly playing the game as if it's nothing more than a stage for him to continue his showboating?

The reality is our club is in a pretty bad position right now, players see us as nothing more than a paycheck.. Giving players like Lingard such a stupid amount of money sealed our fate in that department... There's a reason Leicester won the league despite earning 1/10th of what other players would be earning in the PL, because they were footballers wanting to play/win, not mercenaries who show up for 2-3 days a week to collect their cash, which is clearly the case with many of our players.
It's why our players constantly look tired despite running less than I think the rest of the league... They just aren't bothered 90% of the time.

Jose is furious, he is saying we did not move the ball quick enough, too many touches, too many flicks etc. He said we were playing complicated football. That it gave them time to get back into their shape. He said they were too high after the City win, it was just three points and everyone reacted like they had won the league.

That's on him. Its West Brom, he should of played the second team more with three games this week shaw, jones, rojo, blind, martial, rashford, herrera. Players don't adjust mentally and emotionally very well after beating the top team than playing the bottom team the week after with little motivation. That's like spending the night with Kate Upton and the next night with Chelsea Handler, sometimes you ain't up for it.

Such a Liverpool thing to do, beat the best and loose to the worst in the space of a week

Seriously ?

If SAF had taken Pogba off after 60 odd minutes today in a must win match I wouldn't have batted an eyelid, just hoped that he wasn't too seriously injured(why else take him off ?), but with Mourinho....
After the game Jose mentioned too many flicks, I think we all know who that was about unfortunately.

Maybe we should put our U-16 girls team out next game.:)

His sides play attractive football and he actually does a lot with average resources. Something our manager could learn a bit from.

Jose won the league and CL with average resources, for Porto.
SAF won a EU trophy, when managing Aberdeen (who?).
Poch, with great players and arguably the best striker in the World has won nothing. He is behind us in the league this season. And last season, while Jose won 2 trophies, Poch won nothing.

We made the mistake with Moyes, by hiring someone who did not have an appropriate CV. This job destroyed him and he was sacked in 10 months. Let's not make the same mistake by bringing another manager with no experience of winning trophies.

But what with Mourinho? He can't sub a player without people thinking he's in a conflict with someone..?

Why blame the player? Literally everyone looks crap and that's got to be down to more than all of them being shite. We've seen them all perform better than this

Yep, at the end of the day, there is only one game so far in the season for which Jose is truly and fully inexcusable, and that is Sevilla. Let us face it, today was against relegation fodder with league position all but secured. Its' typically the type of game not just us, but some other big teams, may take in a lax manner and draw or lose. Not acceptable, but excusable atleast.
