PL L FA Premier League

West Ham United 2:0 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Sun, 22 September 2019

This is my first post of the season, as I wanted to give it a few weeks to form a considered opinion. My humble opinion? We are dog shit.

We are lacking experience, quality and character in key areas. The fantastic opening day win against Chelsea has proved a false dawn, and we have since struggled for goals. It looks like we've improved defensively but weakened in midfield and attack. Ole has put his faith in the kids, but some are struggling and there aren't enough experienced players to ease the burden. Pogba clearly doesn't want to be here, leaving us with a talisman in the side. We are devoid of leaders.

I'm seriously worried. We can't expect a group of young lads to cope with the pressure of the current situation. There aren't enough goals in the side, compounded by Rashford's injury today, which, incredibly, means we don't have a fit striker at the club just now. It's looking like another long hard season ahead; West Ham were well worth their win today, and we just don't look threatening. Everything is predictable and lacking creativity.

Top four already looks a pipe dream, and once again we are left wondering how we can fix things. It's been the same story every season bar one (second place under Mourinho) since Fergie retired six years ago. We don't seem to be moving forward. It's a steep learning curve for a number of young players, and my hope is that they will come through this and develop together. There's no other option in the short term.

Even the most optimistic fans knew this was going to be a LONG season and I think most of us knew we’d see games like this. Players looked tired despite all the stuff we’ve been hearing about fitness over the summer.

Pogba and Shaw wouldn’t have made a bit of difference today. Neither of them would have fancied the battle on the pitch. Martial was a miss but we still should have better squad depth.

Easily deserved win for West Ham who didn’t have to play particularly well themselves.

I'm out, not going to watch any more of this crap, rotten owners, CEO, manager and sulking nanny pansies like pogba and martial.
I,'ll start to watch again when the above are not at the club. It's not entertainment in any shape or form.
I get far more entertainment by watching liverpool who have got direction and good level headed players, not half a team of sulkers and past a sell by date.

That was atrocious. I believe this is just one of the many times we shall see united display such rubbish this season. However how many of you had this exact thought or conversation before the game, it goes something like this:

I think we will get beat today west ham will get a goal and then the game will peter out and they will force a 2nd, game over.

This has happened so many times under various managers since fergie. The team no matter who is in it is slow and passive. Why?

We are the wealthiest club in England If not the world. We start the game with Ashley and Andrea's... that is more than concerning.

We finished the game with Lingard at striker. Honestly clowns could run the club better than Woodward. He is the problem and until he is dealt with no reason to worry about much else.
Are we?

Im not so sure we are that wealthy, to be honest, I think its all a front. More dismissal football like this and the sponsors will flood across to City.

Another match without the result we should have had.

The lack of basic level finishing is costing us a LOT of points so far this season. Again we have 2 99% scoring chances that are not put away by Maguire and Mata respectively. Missing half our first team is also a huge issue. We have a long road ahead.

I trust in the manager though, there is a clear path here, but we're not going to win ever match this year, sorry to break it to everyone.

Imagine that. Your first second and third striker are all injured. Only at United this type of stuff happens

MU is not MU anymore. No tactic, no team spirit.
Nothing to say.

We’re rubbish. We’ve been rubbish in all but one PL game this season. We were rubbish on Thursday and rubbish for 90 minutes today. We’re a shit team, playing shit football. Been that way for ages and shows zero signs of changing. This shower of shite - under this manager - have absolutely no chance of playing CL football next season, that much is obvious.

So, after 6 games is 2W-2D-2L, 8 points total. That projected to the rest of the season gets you around 50-51 points, which is 11th place (and below West Ham for that matter) and doesn't sound inaccurate. Grim.

The club brought it on itself. This is what we are. I’m done with being frustrated by it.

If you think Pogba or Shaw would have fancied the battle today or made any meaningful difference then you’re wrong. Martial was a miss but this is exactly the game Pogba wouldn’t have liked.

And no we clearly didn’t deserve anything from that game. West Ham were pretty average but were pretty comfortable for the match .

Ole needs another summer to continue clearing out the dross, and signing more young hungry players
He'll still set them up to play shit football.

Hit into channels...
or
backwards and to feet...no early crosses, no balls across the 6 yard box...no risk football that is worse than LVG and Mourinho put together.

And we were pretty rubbish for a lot of that game too!

I can't disagree with any of that though, it's upsetting to have to criticise Ole but it's clear as day he isn't good enough and will be gone soon enough.

The squad is the worst I've ever seen at Utd.

JP Mcmanus and his business partner held a large chunk of shares in Manchester United.
Fergie fell out with them literally over a horse, and they in turn played a pivotal role in selling shares to the Glazers to allow them a controlling stake.

They're referring to JP McManus. One of the majority shareholders before they sold up to the Glazers.
Thanks yall

When the penny drops and ole realises rashford isn't a striker and is a mediocre winger will we move forward. When he said he isn't concerned rashford isn't scoring was a disgrace. He should be concerned. To not have a striker on the bench is bad management.

I thought we did OK for parts of the second half, but a distinct lack of quality was telling in those crucial moments where we had opportunities to make something happen.

I really feel for Ole, because this is an incredibly difficult job at the moment. He just doesn't have the players he needs to give us fans what we want.

It was really depressing hearing Neville bang on about the £900million that has been wasted in six years. It is truly shocking to see how little we have to show for so much money invested.

When we play the likes of Liverpool and Man City it will need to be watched behind the sofa i feel. Really sad how far United have fallen and no light at the end of this tunnel just year after year of this mediocrity.

Whenever Juan mata plays, the chances of United Loosing is high.
Because United is practically playing with 10 men against 11.
He cannot run, cannot tackle, not tough enough, and stay away during 50-50 situation.
In the English league, if you do not have any of those, you probably cannot contribute to the team.
Maybe he is the Club's pet and gain favoritism.
Giving him another contract is a big mistake by United.
Unite could have used the money to sign somebody younger and stronger.

As bad as we were, West Ham took their two goals very well. We missed two sitters.

We will have plenty of games like this this season, we’ve not got the class edge anymore so it will come down to who takes their chances on the day

Ole and the team continue to struggle especially away from home. Of course we missed Martial and Pogba but it is hard to see much progress since Ole became our permanent manager, not least in our attacking game.

I watched the first half and about 10 minutes of the second, I had to turn off the game. Fed up of watching this, really want Olly to get his vision across but I can see him getting the sack by Christmas I even think he is odds on to go.

No strikers now and revert to playing Lingard up top, Matic. Why is he starting him what is olly seeing that we are not.
Mata is our best No10 and that says it all, I do not think he is a bad player but he not the quality he once was.

Rashford looks like he is shot of all confidence, there was a point where he was clean through but could not control the ball, seems to be always putting his back to goal.

To be fair I was expecting a loss but that was just awful no pressure being put on west ham from what I was watching and 3 shots on target, it was like we went out there and played as we had lost already. Think from now on it would be best just to see the results after the matches.

Now now, nobody likes a turn coat!

Keep positive. One of those games. It was never going to be an easy season. We’ll beat Arsenal week on Monday without a doubt. The team will get there and evolve. Complete faith in the manager - he just needs the full backing. Some of the comments in the match day thread were an absolute disgrace by cry baby “must have now tin pot so called fans” I’m afraid. Utterly pathetic....

That's pretty much every game now though. So many people sound brainwashed.

Stop putting Fellaini in this list, it's embarrassing. Do you think Pep or Klopp would consider lumping the ball long to Fellaini? Fed up of United fans who are willing to settle for lumping balls up to Fellaini as a viable tactic. There is plenty of teams that play like that in league 2 if that's your thing! Bloody embarrassing.

Edit. Sorry just actually read what your wrote, I'm annoyed, yes Fellaini should have been replaced. But with a footballer rather than a big brush.

No worries. Not replacing 4 players is my gripe. Squad looks very thin and with no quality past our best 11

Cant keep saying its team to defend how hopeless our actual style of football is under solskjear, we played just as rubbish on Thursday against a bunch of minnows with the football mirroring that infamous Fulham game under Moyes, do we need to play against a league two side for Solskjear to finally show he can play the "United way".

Difference between us and them was that they scored two great goals and we missed the easiest two chances (Mata and Maguire) in the game.

Six games into the season and I'm already over with it. When I saw the players Solskjær had chosen I lost all hope for the game. Matić did have a decent game however. We're so embarrassing toothless attacking. Solskjær made a huge mistake putting his money on Rashford. We can't score unless we get a penalty. I was hopeful for a top four before the start of the season but thinking we'll end up around 8th.

Basically the second we have Pogba and Martial out, our attack is going to go to shit and we'll rely on being clinical and keeping a clean sheet. With all fit it isnt bad, but obviously not amazing. With all 3 out its hopeless in attack and again, relying on a goal out of nothing and keeping a clean sheet. That's how this season will go, relying on the fitness of Martial, Rashford and Pogba. Hopefully they can stay relatively fit until January over the next couple of months, but January we have to be desperate for reinforcements.

As for the game, it basically went like that. Our defending was fine, they didnt have any real chances but scored from a half chance and a beauty free kick. We missed 2 sitters, but had nothing else in attack nor did we look like creating anything else. It's a sad state of affairs that a game against West Ham is predictable like that, but it is what it is. Just need to make signings and address gaps in the squad.

By the time the club got rid of Lukaku and Sanchez it was too late to find quality replacements. Therefore the only sensible thing was to keep them. Lukaku would have buried some of those wasted chances, esp the Maguire and Mata misses.

I agree. Lingard up top today is mind boggling stuff. Matic, Andreas and Mata as starters is equally as crazy.

West Ham have better players than us today:

DDG > Fab

Awb > Fredicks
Maguire > Ogbonna
Lindelof < Diop
Cresswell < Young

Mctominay < Rice
Matic < Noble
Pereira < Forlans

James < Anderson
Mata < Yarmelenko
Rashford < Haller

3 players I'd say we were better in, in their respective positions. Really so predictable.

Bring Roy back as assman?
This is a legend who speaks his mind. We're sad to see. We have multiple failed transfer windows, We've made so many bad decisions. No need to sugarcoat it with "this time it's for long term".

You can't let go of two players and not replace them. We were not in excess, maybe CBs but that's all.
