PL W FA Premier League

Manchester United 1:0 West Ham United

Post-match discussion

Terrible attacking play from both sides, now a frequent occurrence with Utd.

Welcome 3 points the only positive but just don't see where this team is going under Ole.
Please stop the God awful moaning.

We played on Thursday evening, we were playing a very defensively set team who are 5th and have the 2nd most points in 2021, and we were comfortably better. We could have won 3 0 easily but for poor finishing/excellent goal keeping.

If you can't see that our ability to win narrow games has improved significantly in the last year or so, I suggest a trip to Specsavers.

Was it though?
Yh I think so. The momentum loss/fear that would have crept in with a draw or loss would have been hard to deal with. We don’t have an easy run either.

Winning today coupled with Spurs losing was perfect. Gap to 5th is now comfortable unless we implode.

Some posters have moaning hard-wired into their DNA.

There’s criticism and then there’s moaning. It’s sad to see so much of the latter here.

This page is a bit of a mess this evening. West Ham are genuine top four contenders. They set up disgracefully defensively. We beat them. It’s a good night’s work. Be happy.

You are 8 years old or started supporting United 2 years ago ? Do you remember Moyes or LvG ?

I have supported the club for over 35 years.

Mourinho and LVG were boring as feck, but neither were anywhere near as poor as Ole at in game management.

Both of the managers you mentioned have had world class careers and actually won trophies at United, so let’s not shit all over them to stick up for Ole, eh?

 @ people in the match thread claiming we were lucky. West Ham were a joke.
It’s mind boggling it’s as if the only way we’re not lucky if we win every 3-0 /4-0 . We dominated the whole game

Only seen highlights, but Greenwood looked unlucky not to get his goal. So close a number of times, only to draw a very good save or hit the woodwork. Feels like he is getting close to breaking this goal drought and I'm sure the goals will start flowing again for him shortly.

We were excellent I thought. Deserved another goal and would have been robbed if we drew. Greenwood was so unlucky not to get one. Against a tough side. Big win.
Maguire, Shaw and Greenwood were great, but everyone played well.

I thought we played great especially that first half. It should have been a 2-0 or 3-0 scoreline and someday we will start scoring again.

- Shaw just awesome. Love that nifty move to get out of trouble around two opponents.
- That was the best Rashford looked in at least a month.
- Greenwood was very good and unlucky not to have scored.
- Defense, once again, was just immense and the best was Maguire.
- Henderson is no 1 for me because the defense looks much more comfortable knowing he will come out.
- Everyone looked pretty sharp and knew how important this match was. Thank you players and Ole.
- Very surprised Diallo didn't come in.
- Milan will watch this and be worried because when we want to play well we can.

Sorry you Ole haters, we have pretty much wrapped up top 4 and likely will finish 2nd. This means Ole will get a contract extension and be assured of another year. It's time to join the bandwagon.

Glad we were playing a Moyes team. He is such a negative coach. West Ham offered nothing! They played against United like they did Liverpool a few weeks back, when both teams were there for the taking. Not saying it wouldnt have suited United more for West Ham to be more attacking but to have no shots on target is abysmal.

Good before the goal. Bad after the goal.

Still the issue with breaking down defences continues. Not surprisingly.
But we did look likely to score, so that's a plus.

Wonder how many times I'm going to read "Will take the win, but it wasn't pretty." I swear I've seen it for most of this season.

i thought this game was bit different We did have chances and did not take them. More energy and Greenwood was always a threat. I thought we played well.

This team desperately needs a proper center forward to function as an attacking unit.

This team desperately need a proper CDM to function as an attacking unit. Someone that shields the defense and controls the ball so we can move further forward and shorten the distance between attack and midfield.

Dominated and should’ve killed them off but WH defended very well first half even though they had no ambition to win a game of football.

Players looked a bit sharper and on another night it’s 3 or 4 nil. Two superb saves from Friedel, hit the post twice, Rashford missing his header, Rashford not squaring it. Lots of positives though too.

Shaw...will not let you down.

Maguire very good.
Not too shabby from Barthez on our goal either, even though West Ham never tested him.

Another good thing from this game, no ridiculously unnecessary subs like the Everton injury time debacle and the negative subs of the Milan game. Hopefully Ole has started to learn from his mistakes. Maybe Fergie has had a word.

Felt like we will choke at the end and give a draw.

Did ole realize he can put subs? Amad for James. Matic for McT

Daniel - Headless chicken

Top 4 is in the bag .. the league should be on the backburner now..
Really hope we progress in the europa.. dont really care about it, but have nothing else to play for this season

I thought they were guaranteed to have a shocker after the rumors leaked last night about Ole's new deal. I told my brothers to lump it all on WestHam winning, never been an easier call.

So, well done to the lads, that was completely dominant. I thought Harry was great, and I am pissed that Fabianski saved that shot from Mason in the first half, that would have been great.

Dan James must be a nightmare to play against. Just constantly buzzing around and being obnoxious, and looking like he is probably about to do something great. It never comes off of course, but it would be worrying.

I honestly care more about finishing strong in the league than the Europa League. We're not going to win the league, but finishing close to City rather than miles behind in 3rd or 4th should be our target

In the bag? I agree its likely but let's not be counting chickens. Some tough matches coming up, they need to push through and finish 2nd. Top 4 should be the absolute minimum accepted not the goal.

Post match with Michael Owen and Ian Wright is exactly what Ole’s reign is all about. No identity, can’t break down defences, only one passer in our attack.
When we had possession in their half, there was nothing going on, passing side to side and backwards. Our chances only came from counter attacking.

And it's an important 3 points, as we start to consolidate that top 4 spot. I'm still not sure whether we're playing the best football under Solskjaer or whether this is the best direction moving forwards, but I agree that I can't see him getting sacked as things stand.

I actually thought Greenwood was man of the match, a superb performance but luck is just not on his side yet.

But I think we will have a monster in 1-2 seasons.
That is one scary kid. He was so unlucky vs West Ham. On another day could have had a brace. Am glad to see him receive some credit here.

People may and will doubt Ole for various reasons, so calling them haters is akin to calling posters like you arse-lickers. No need for that.

Glad we were playing a Moyes team. He is such a negative coach.
Tactics against City were similar, a game in which they looked very good, but could have been because they had Lingard linking their attack better than any of their other players are capable.

We played quite well, much better than we did on Thursday at any rate and should have scored more. First time i have felt like Greenwood could become a proper wideman.

I wonder what the score/result would have been if a) Lingard was playing for them or b) Lingard was playing for us?

Seriously ? You want to claim that winning the Charity Shield against a team from the Championship is a trophy ?

But to say that a guy who has the record for most points won from losing positions has poor game management, doesn't sound too logical. Especially when you compare him to Moyes probably tried a lot to turn things around, but never succeeded.

Woulda coulda shoulda. Lots of moaning in here. It wasn't a great game against an opponent who were stubbornly defensive. Did we get lucky? Yes. Did we deserve to win? Yes as well. We controlled large portions of the game. Had the better chances. The opponent had zero shots on goal.

I'll take the 3 points and move on. Especially considering the amount of injuries to our attacking players.

Are we not in the FA Cup? Also we really need to finish strong and try to close the gap to City.

A well deserved 3ps. Another clean sheet. Of course it would've been nice if we scored more...

Maguire, Shaw and Greenwood the standout performers for me.

I'd agree with that. I didn't expect West Ham to set up any other way. Lucky goal, but overall were the far better team in a poor enough game and deserved to win.

It's one of those games that I wont over analyse or remember for long.
