Predictions for players we'll sign in the Summer

What we would ideally get in muppet land:

Top midfielder
Top winger
Top left back
Top defender

What we could easily make do with:

Top midfielder
Decent left back

Everyone knows were a selling club this summer, we've never been good at getting a deal.

But I'd genuinely like to know how much you'd expect us to get for those.

Rvp, 31 year old with poor injury record, we'd do v well to break 10m.
Nani, yeah I've been quote pessimistic with that we should get closer to 10m. Will certainly depend on his performance in world cup.
Hernandez? Have no idea but he's been on the sidelines for a good two and a bit years now. Again, a good world cup will increase price but I think we overestimate his worth.
Kagawa. Everyone knows he's not in moyes plans, we got him for 12, I cant see how we can make a profit out of him when he's been so disappointing for us (much due to moyes tactics and team selection, not representative of his actual talent)
Everyone on here well overestimates our players worth
 
Although, saying that. It would be interesting, if we were to sell both rvp and hernandez, how much we'd get for the second one. As when we sell one a team would have to up the price for the second as we wouldn't be seen as looking to obviously sell

I think you're a long way out with those estimations and Kagawa disappointing? Have you not watched us over the last month? I'm convinced Shinji will stay now.

RVP is still a world class player, and its 2014, he'll go for twice that. 15-20m is still a good deal for him for other clubs. Nani will probably start for Portugal and show he's still a good player, and normally he'd get like 15-20 IMO but he has hardly played these last few years so I can see us getting between 10-15m for him. Hernandez can easily fetch close to 20m. We won't be in a hurry to get rid of him and he's great for marketing, along with being a very good player. He'll go to another big team as well so we'll get a good amount. Kagawa I don't think will be sold but if he were to be sold, I think we could get 15-20m for him as well. Obviously a top class player and if he was at another club showing the form he's showed this last month he'd go for 30m.

People don't realize how much the market has changed these last few years. The average but talented players going to other top clubs go for around 20m usually, especially if there is plenty of time on the contract.

Selling the two of them will be counter productive .

Anyway, I love shinji I hope to god we dont sell because he is class, but if your a team searching for a class number 10, not only are there hundreds of them around nowadays but it would be risky move from a ceo splashing out 15m for a player that has, write frankly not done that well here. Sorry bit he hasnt (as I say, a lot of that is not his fault at all).
Look at it this way, if we got him for 12m when he was german player of the year, why weren't every other club in for him at that price? Maybe he had heart set on utd, hope so. But I can't see how his valuation has gone up in two years when he hasn't played as well as he was before those two years.

As I say maybe the world cup will change that. Hopefully not as I don't want us to sell him in a million years.

I agree, but chica looks like he wants out, which would suggest we keep rvp, just hope he sorts his attitude out. Maybe a change in manager will fix that quite easily

Nobody wanted nani for 10m last year, he's been injured/not used since then. Though it was the end of his contract. Max 15. Max.

I cant decide over hernandez. Good world cup would get him close to 20m I think
 
There are strong rumours on Twatter that weve pretty much signed Reus for 33m and there will be a statement from Dortmund before the WC, the same people are saying weve pretty much landed Shaw for 27m.
 
Reus and Shaw would be just lovely.

Would imagine means shinji going back?

The same source said Kagawa was part of the deal a while back. He also mentioned we were looking at Moura again.
 
I personally tend to trust this guy, I was following him during the RVP saga and he called it about a week before the story broke and was also very accurate with his reports about Mata about a week in advance. Has the fee and everything down. But I totally get Twatter can be a bit of a joke but this guy has always been good for me so I tend to trust his info. @corrienationstr if anyone is interested.

The contract was a big part of it, wasn't galatasaray bidding 8m and we wanted like 12.5m given he had 1 year left? He signed a new 5 year deal I think it was so we could get 15m but I'm not sure if we'll sell him because of the chance he gets over the injuries and becomes a top player. Agree with Hernandez, think we could get 15m right now, last summer would have been 25m but after a good World Cup he could get close to 20 I think.

I think if Van Persie leaves then Chicha will be more inclined to stay, a dogged ''not for sale'' line will be sufficient . If we move to a one striker system then three strikers in the squad will be enough .

The failings of Kagawa are vastly over exaggerated. He had a decent first season at United only to be hindered by injuries, this season he has been used sparingly by a manager that didn't know how to use him. Recently he has shown his quality and you could argue he's been our most inform player in recent weeks. Any man and his dog knows he's got fantastic ability why would clubs (including ours) think any differently? Despite you beleiving he's not played well you're aware its not wholly his fault and still confess he's class, surely those whose are paid to spot talent would be aware of this as well?

We got Kagawa so cheap because he was in his last year of his contract, contract length have massive impact on transfer fees. Take Adam Johnson for example, he barely got a look in at City but still went for up to £12mil to Sunderland, are we to assume that Adam Johnson is a better player than Kagawa? The same applies to Nani, he's signed a new contract, his value jumps as a result.
 
Lallana would be a typical Tottenham signing. Last time we did something like that we ended up with Ashley Young and Valencia.
 
I feel sorry for Valencia, because 9 out of 10 fans will remember him for his current form rather than the player of the year form he had for us for 2 seasons.

I remember the old Valencia, but what difference does it make when you have that sort of development? He must suffer from some of his injuries, because this man used to go under the name "the magician". Now he's anything but a magician.

Regarding the summer transfers - I would wish for us to sign Baines. Perhaps Coleman could come as well and Rafael becomes a new kind of John O'shea/Phil Neville? I just fear we will have to break the bank by a mile to get Baines... I can easily see us paying £35m and then we will be constantly comparing him with Luke Shaw. I also believe one of them will change their position and become a very outstanding player. Seems wierd to have all that talent and be playing at the back with all the defensive duties.

Yeah I see what your saying but seems like he's a normal guy with a mate In the right place.

Incidentally he just tweeted that Reus has told BVB he's leaving and we could have the deal wrapped up as early as this week. He's been right before so this could get exciting.
 
Shaw, Carvalho, creative central midfielder, Inigo Martinez, goalscoring winger, and De Scilio. I chose De Scilio because he can play on both sides and is very good at both.

Those are the ones I think are both attainable and would make us compete although Shaw, Carvalho and Martinez would take a huge chunk out of our transfer budget. Their clubs would not let Martinez and Carvalho go below their release clause which are reported at €30m and £37m respectively and I can't see us getting Shaw for anything less than 20m with the way British transfers are being handled these days.

If we want to make our team really good in all areas we really do need the transfer budget which is going around in the papers.

I don't think [hope more to the point] there will be drastic movement this summer, especially as in all likelihood there will be no European football next year. Saw what happened at Spurs last season when they changed half their squad and they have been left with a set of players that are new to the Premier league and have not integrated successfully.

Lot of people calling for likes of Cleverley, Fletcher, Fellaini, Young, Valencia to go, but they are perfectly adequate squad players, capable of doing the job against lower / mid table Premier league opposition. If they are happy to stay on those terms so be it.

4 out - Vida, Rio, Evra and Giggs - Losing a lot of experience / leadership here - senior players like Rooney, Carrick, Evans will need to step up on and off the pitch.

4 in - Centre half, left back, 2 Centre midfielders.
 
Inigo Martinez seems to be mentioned a lot, but he hasn't been that good this season. He's talented no doubt, but there are other talented centre-halves having a better season, which we probably could get for less money. Shkodran Mustafi, Joel Veltman or Mateo Musacchio for example.

Cleverley and Young haven't been good enough to be labelled adequate sqaud players. Young is nowhere near the player he was at Villa and Cleverley has gotten worse since his good spell alongside Anderson at the start of the season a couple of years ago. Cleverley's fitness should also be better for a good squad player, because that's what you want the most from a squad player -reliability.

I agree that we shouldn't change too much, but we might have no other option, especially if all of Ferdinand, Vidic and Evra leave.

At times Cleverley and Young have made us look like we're playing with 1 less player this season but I don't mind Valencia and Fletcher and to a certain extent, Fellaini could still turn out good.

Both Cleverley and Young are recent England internationals. Personally I see no point in swapping squad players at great expense. Spend any money that you have on the big players that will make a difference against the top sides.

Not Cleverley's biggest fan but think a big issue with him is confidence. He has been a scapegoat for a lot of Utd's poorer performances this year. He is neither as good or as bad as some have made out on this forum.

Agree - it has been a bad season for both.

Obviously we are not party to what goes on in the dressing room, but I think I read somewhere that Cleverley feels that the role that Moyes plays him [more of a defensive role] doesn't get the best out of him. This, and the confidence issue mentioned above, I think have severely impacted on his contribution this year.

Cleverley I think we should be keeping. The guy is young and when he's on form he's neat and tidy on the ball and keeps possession well. His terrible form this season rather masks that, but as a sqaud player I think he has room.

However Young is a different issue. For one we already have Valencia, Nani and Januzaj who play as real wingers, Wellbeck who can play there if needed and Kagawa and Mata can play on the left or right, albeit in a very different way. Besides if reports are to be believed he's on good wages, which could be freed up to go towards an alternative. Transfer fees are often less, on an annual basis, than salaries.
