My point was that City should offer Sane a choice, see out the remainder of his contract (and thus leave on a free next season) & rot in the reserves. Or sign a new deal (and get more game time next season) & allow Sane to leave after next season if another club makes a good offer (assuming he still wants to leave).
In other words what I am advocating City do with Sane is similar to what AC Milan did with Thiago Silva; allow him to leave, but only if he signs a new deal to bump up the transfer fee.
