Lukaku has been pretty good today. Saints haven't really got anything for him.

Southampton just haven't looked the part at all today. To be fair their Schneiderlin replacement is injured.

Lukaku looking very dangerous indeed, 2-0

15 goals conceded in their last 7.5 league games Southampton. What happened to that fabled defence?

I hope Lukaku has learned from his average 14/15 season and realises this is the kind of performance he should be having. Harrassing defenders with his physique and pace and making well timed runs.

I don't know why but I'd enjoy seeing Southampton crumble this season. Maybe it was their fans singing happy birthday to Koeman..the weirdo's

Yeah, superb counter.

Why do Everton spend so little btw? Always been interested in knowing this. They simply don't spend.

Their owner isn't that rich, is my understanding, and their revenue probably isn't insane. The TV deal should have meant they had enough money for the obvious signings of a 3rd CB and a winger (Deulofeu is worth a shot, but they could use another one, as Cleverly and Kone are out there right now).

I still remember the rumours in early june 2014. The bids of cleverley plus 15m for McCarthy. Worst thing was people were actually happy with it. Thank god we have a good midfield now

Southampton look really soft in the middle in their two opening games, and we've gone the complete opposite way. That can't all have been down to Schneiderlin, surely?

Southampton are so weak without Schneiderlin in the middle. It's incredible how big of a difference 1 player makes.

The owner not being rich is fair enough but that doesn't explain their frugal spending. Championship clubs spend more. Without even a penny coming from the owner, they must be making great money.

They did splash out on lukaku btw so they do have the money I feel, probably a case of the owner being happy with a top 8 club as long as the money keeps going into his pocket?

I think Moyes spoilt the club in that sense. He got players from nowhere for small amounts and made them work together to create a great team. Baines mirallas Howard etc. kenwright probably expects Martinez to be the same.

But to be fair they did pay £28m for lukaku recently

Is it very wrong that I quite like that Everton jersey?

I guess they won't be so happy about him anymore

From what I gather, they were actually bad financially when he took over. The situation is very different now though with clubs having plenty of money. To quote a post made just now:

Before people get too excited over Lukaku, it's worth remembering that for several seasons now he's had occasional games where he rips opponents to pieces (remember the hatrick against you guys when he was at West Brom a few years back?) but then far more regularly does nothing at all. He has to become a lot more consistent before he'd be worth a starting place in a top side.

That's wrong. You will not meet a chairman or owner who loves the club as much as kenwright does with Everton.
Everton are a small local club with limited global appeal. Any money they make has to be carefully invested. Championship clubs need to spend more, in order to try and get to the PL and stay there.
