Protests following the killing of George Floyd

Absolute disgrace.

I hope the police charge them for inciting racial hatred. That includes the twat with the plane!

Apparently the pilot crashed after falling out of the banner.

Some photos on Twitter of the person alleged to be responsible arm-in-arm with Tommy Robinson.

They both were. Must be cramp from all that goose-stepping.

It makes me feel so sad that so many replies to Ben Mee and Burnley FC are from people who feel that they're sellouts for denouncing the banner. Someone replied to Ben Mee "well done for disregarding 87% of the population you twat"

87% of the twitter population deserves disregarding to be fair. If not more.

A nice pic in response to the horror over the weekend. Just on the right here, you can see Richard Petty who came out in support of Bubba. Petty is Southern royalty, so good on him.

All these racist feckers in America should have there roots checked and any of them that arrived after the first slave should be deported.

Absolute disgrace.

Had a glance at the two biggest Burnley forums. Most of the supporters are rightly condemning it but there is also a sizeable percentage who saw nothing wrong in the banner and instead are attacking the "snowflake white liberals", saying that Floyd has "caused more worldwide social division than Hitler" and "if you want the BNP to come back in force, support BLM".

Ben Mee spoke out about it after the game:

“I’m ashamed and embarrassed that a small number of our fans have decided to put that around the stadium,” said Mee.

“They have completely missed the point and there’s a group of lads in there who are embarrassed to see that.

“It’s not what we are about at all and has missed the whole point of what we’ve achieved and what we’re trying to do (through backing the Black Lives Movement).

“These people need to educate themselves – as a lot of us do – and, like I said, it completely missed the point of the whole thing we’re trying to achieve.

“It does not represent what we’re about, the club’s about, the players are about and what the majority of fans are about, I’m sure. It’s a small minority of people and I’m really upset that happened.

“I’m ashamed and upset it’s associated with our club – my club – and it’s not something we want to see at all in the game. We totally condemn it and are embarrassed by it.”

Absolute disgrace.

I don't know the background (if there is any) with this picture or what Burnley has to do with it, but why is this racism or a disgrace? Do white lifes not matter (as much as black lifes)?

I don't get what is wrong with that?

You don't? Try thinking a little harder.

The movement isn't "Black lives matter, white lives don't."

It's more "black lives matter too, stop the persecution".

It really isn't difficult to decipher, especially if you do a little reading.

I obviously get that, but what is the problem if, let's say, another movement says white lifes matter (too)? Why is that instantly branded as racism?
Isn't this whole BLM-movement about equality? So obviously both of them matter, no?

My english is unfortunately not good enough to go deeper into this topic to explain what i really mean but this banner didn't say "black lifes don't", did it?

Because nobody was saying white lives don't matter. Literally the only reason to fly a banner with "white lives matter" over an occasion of support for black lives matter is to show how much of a racist you are. There is no other possible reason.

It's a bit like going to a BLM protest where some people are shouting "black power" and going "white power!"

Because white life has always mattered and anyone can read between the lines and see that the fascists are pissed off that finally people are arguing that Black lives have some value so they feel the need to reassert the status quo.

I am not sure about that. I would take some bets, that since George Floyds death (and before ofcourse too), some white people over the world (probably and especially in US) have experienced some racism by black people too. Like some stereotypes that most white's are racist etc. And in this context i could believe that some people would like to send a message that 'whie lifes matter too'.

I obviously don't know which intention this banner from Burnley had, though. But i think it's difficult to instantly brand it as racism. I don't like it. We should aim for equality and not for something else, or it will always be a seedling for new hate in future generations.

Oh come off it, the entire point of it is to undermine ‘black lives matter’.

And equality is exactly the point of the BLM movement, when they’re the demographic who disproportionately suffer with racism.

"Doctor! I got shot in my right leg! Help me!"
"There there, I will fix both legs shortly"
"There's no bullet in my left leg!"
"ALL LEGS MATTER!"
