Protests following the killing of George Floyd

I agree with all u say, I just find the reaction of the police odd even sickening given what has happened this weeek, they don't even try to escort him away.... they throw him water and thank him...….
that was before the shooting no?

Not that it makes that much of a difference

He was from out of state. No way he was defending anything other than weirdo fantasies in his head.
there is a video of him saying he's defending business premises.

A good lawyer will say that was his intention, he felt threatened and fired.

I could very well see him getting of with this, if this stand your ground thing is real

The powers that be need to be charged, if u can buy ammo at the local "Tesco" in the USA there is clearly something completely fecked, but hey its the constitution.

There's a lot that needs to be done. Making rules that ensure only adults have access to firearms is one of many required fixes.

No that was after and he was giving himself up...

You can hear by standers saying "he just shoot people"

i thought it was just cut like that?

Wtf? Why isnt he cuffed? He even rang the cops on himself after the first shooting and said i just killed someone

He's from Illinois. This is in Wisconson. He has no legitimate reason to be there and the feds are going to feck him up (hopefully)

It's more of the internet market and black/underground/shadow market. It's way too easy to acquire a gun in the United States. And state laws vary from state to state and 'internet' laws don't really apply. It's such as clusterfeck in terms of how people can acquire guns. Way too many loopholes and other alternatives like the internet, black market, etc.

the only video ive seen is the one when he was being chased around the car, he shot back hit thr guy in the head then called the police on himself.

But apparently because he was at the gas station protecting property, when that guy starts chasing him there's a possibility this stand your ground law can kick in where you can use lethal force to protect property or your person.

Obviously this is all second hand information and could be total shite, but i wouldnt be surprised if he got if.

@choiboyx012 maybe you'd know better the laws on this

I've not seen that one. I've only seen the aftermath. I didn't realise it was the police here was on the phone to.

I hope it gets some sort of regulation soon, I know its the minority in the US that do this shit but the US is BIG.

Oh good point, maybe it wasn't. Sort of just assumed. In fact, yea probably wasn't the police actually, more likely a buddy.

do you think if the public has less access to firearms, cops need for guns and thus shootings would reduce?

There's no hope for the US. There are over 350 million firearms in circulation. They're never going away.

Making it slightly harder to get guns via background checks, licensing, etc may help the issues we see with policing but honestly in that climate the cops need to approach every interaction as if a gun may be present. However, they should always wear protective vests to reduce their chances of serious harm and use this to keep from overreacting anytime they see something that might be a gun.

He probably got this gun(s) off the internet or purchased in Indiana from someone.

I'm going to guess that it's similar to Adam Lanza and that it belongs to an adult in his family. Hard to get guns online in the US, it's not like here in Canada.

have u ever seen anything like that in all your time during the troubles? Its quite surreal, for me anyway.
I was only born in 1990 so haven't experienced much of it first hand apart from the couple of bombs in omagh where i live.

Surreal is the perfect word. I cant imagine seeing people walk around armed to the teeth like that no matter what reason they have.

I used to love going to America, been maybe 5 times, but i think id be to scared to return any time soon

All on-duty officers are supposed to wear a vest, but even then it's only protective against specific bullets and who the hell knows what type of weapon and ammo someone has now a days. And you can still get shot in the leg or other major artery and bleed out...then there's the head shot.

Thought of this the other day and it's like you need to invest in technology that scans and looks for a gun. I have no idea if that's even possible, but some type of X-ray vision. It sounds kind of like a movie or Terminator type solution, but damn, any idea or solution is way better than just police officer training and some additional laws that attempt to make owning a gun more difficult.

Even having annual psyc-tests for anyone who is a registered gun owner. But you know damn well there are loads of people who have guns and those weapons aren't registered and those people with unregistered weapons aren't supposed to have a gun.

Found it. Your man chased him and looks to have be thrown something at him but it doesn't justify shooting him.

Stand your ground or not, I don't think he can claim he were justified or a proportion response, can he?

Agree, Im 38 so I cant say I lived through it but America is just fecked.

Level II vests are generally good against most handgun rounds, so a very effective choice for policing. Headshots aren't easy so the risk is low. Legs are equally hard to hit, so anything like that would be accidental.

Hard to scan for guns because some are made of metals and others are made of polymers. X-ray type technology would be required but it's just not safe for anyone.

But yeah, America is beyond hope when it comes to guns.

Then there should be some firmer restrictions on ammo and harsher, much much harsher laws concerning firearms.

At some point we’ll need a US president with a real moral compass and some real balls.

Unfortunately, it's not up to the POTUS. It's a really fecked up and fragile situation with gun laws. On a federal level, it's about Congress. Then special interest groups like the NRA. And the financial backers of the NRA and their ties with politicians. And on the state level, every state has their own laws that they enact, irrespective of federal laws.

Definitely, but there will still be gaps. In Canada you need a firearms licence to purchase ammo but some components don't require this at all.

Severe consequences for any crime committed with a firearm would be good as well.

What amazes me is that a culture like America's that places so much importance on the individual has no sense of individual responsibility when it comes to guns.

Hopefully not.

I just cant wrap head around the whole thing. What was he trying to achieve by being there?

I understand all that, but when does the world get a POTUS that vocally and determinedly fights that shit?

Well I don’t want to intentionally upset any Americans on here, I love the USA, but I associate those that have or condone firearms with single cell beings.

edit: couple that with racism and you’re fecked.

There's too many people who have access to guns when they have no reason or right to even have that access. I know of many people who have guns and are responsible. But it's obviously used by too many people as a means of intimidation, intent to harm, and method of defense in a non-household setting.

Well, that's not very nice. :nervous:

Absolutely. Guns are fecking dangerous and require a person to act responsibly with them at all times. Some people actually don't get this.

Because gun laws and gun violence in the US is not a bipartisan issue. It's that 'fanatical'. Every politician from local government, to state government, to federal government has a clear position on gun laws, nothing in between. It's sad. I think society can still exist and function with guns present, but it's not that way for many, many reasons.

It goes back to the saying "Guns don't kill people. People kill people." It's much more complicated than that, but as you said and we agree, being a responsible (and sane) person who owns a gun probably won't kill a person in a non-household setting (excluding home invasion, burglary, etc.). What kind of ruffles my feathers are people who think guns are a cool thing and go to a shooting range because it's Instagram worthy or "cool". It's a play thing to them. It's kind of disrespectful and you're treating a deadly weapon as a fun time.

Neither are guns. What’s the point? Guns are to shoot things.

I know a few people that go clay pigeon shooting and i suppose that’s one thing but owning fecking assault rifles and automatic weapons is the arena of the dumbass.

Well, proper assault weapons are fully automatic and these are hard to get in the US unless you have loads of money to waste on guns (and ammunition). Not at all practical. Best left to the tourist shooting ranges.

Yes, guns are to shoot things, but they don't have to be living things. That's not very nice at all.

A 17 yo has just shot 3 people with an assault rifle (semi or full I don't care) ..... Peoples need for something needs to be balanced for the greter good, any one who disagrees with that is pretty selfish, thick as shit or as it seems... American.
