It's all good, I've already accepted that I won't be going to Qatar as soon as I saw the outrageously priced accommodation. I am not financially strong enough to pay for such expenses (30k for a month?! no thank you) and even if I am, I don't want to reward scammers. I've been to every single World Cup since 2002 to 2018 and it's a shame I'll miss out on this World Cup just because of the lack of accommodation. I never faced any of such logistic issues in Korea/Japan, Germany, South Africa, Brazil, Russia.
 
There is a lot that can be used to criticise Qatar but I think it's getting a bit much now.

The issue about fake fans for example. Maybe they are fake fans. But let's be honest football in the UK sells itself. In the middle East not so much. So being the first to do so maybe they are trying to "hype" things up. And fair dues if it helps get local people excited etc.

The accomodation issue. Yeah I get people points. £175 a night for a tent is a lot. But again it's a WC. Have you seen the rentals at Wimbledon for example during the tennis.

Also I don't know about Qatar but Saudi use tents during Hajj and as someone who has caravanned and camped in Europe these tents are better than most houses I've had. Could be wrong just going by what happened in Saudi.

The mad thing is the whole thing could simply have turned into a bigger event than the Qataris thought. So they maybe playing catch up. Who knows it may just be chit planning and they are making an effort.

Eh... I see where you're coming from... In some ways things aren't utter shite (yet). But I think any and all criticism has more justification than usual simply because Qatar has absolutely no business hosting a WC. It's utter nonsense. The *only* reason it was awarded to them was through crazy bribes. They're not a football nation. They didn't have the stadiums, and killed thousands in getting them built. They didn't have the climate, forcing everyone to build a season around a fecking winter WC. It simply shouldn't have gone down like this. They deserve lots of criticism.

Who is sleeping at the WC anyways? I'd be so hyped and wired I won't be sleeping much or wouldn't even care where I have to sleep. I might not even set foot in that tent if I was lucky enough to be there. I'm not defending the other issues but the sleeping accommodations wouldn't bother me much but this would all depend on how much I paid to get there.

Well, the last part is key.

I wouldn't mind sleeping some nights in a tent, but I sure as feck wouldn't pay two hundred dollars per night for it.

Anyway, this isn't really about the money - more about (possible) false advertising. If people actually get what they pay for (if these accommodations are reasonably close to what they were sold as), then it's fair enough (if stupidly expensive). The less close they are, though...well, there you go. Fyre Festival and so forth.

Beyond the litany of other reasons, the country is too small to host a WC.

Good points on the fake fans accusations (I never bought into it) as well as the Hajj thing, but for an event twelve years in the making and bankrolled with seemingly an infinite amount of money, the last thing anyone would expect is last-minute haphazadry.
