Question Time & This Week

I just can't take Bryant seriously anymore after his expenses thing. He spent all that week lambasting Cameron about morals then it comes out he's on the take as well. He's a good speaker for definite, but needs to tone down the moralising because it makes him look ridiculous.

Jenkins is always worth listening to, despite disagreeing with him a lot. Very intelligent man with a wealth of experience.

Did the Tories wheel out Rees Mogg again on Newsnight? Not sure why they do this. The man's a buffoon with extreme views on the media.

Had forgotten about that. Starts here in 10 mins so will do that next week.

One of the strangest in a while. Greening is having a mare. And Hitchens and Self are just two opposite ends of the spectrum, bouncing off each other. Bizarre stuff. Awful question for reasonable debate though.

Onto the second now ...

I want Britain to be back British.

Lots of people seem to have the same views on Britain; that being British is based on 'hard work, honesty, tolerance etc.' That's all well and good, but it's just not what Britain is like. It might be a utopia to many people, but it's not anything what it's like.

Also, Peter Hitchins I find very entertaining.

It's about 200 years late for that....

Sort of. His views are deliberately controversial, but when the stupid uber-liberal blonde was pontificating to him, and he was just blanking her, I found amusing.

She's annoying me.

I think she's been sensible enough, apart from the not being comfortable talking about the Aussie DJ thing which didn't seem all that sincere to me.

She's just trotting out the same old boring liberal shite. Offering the views that all 'right-minded' people have, and anyone who doesn't is racist, facist, homophobic or whatever else. At least Peter Hitchens has proper views, be it right or wrong.

Hitchens is great on QT to be contemptuous of the boring lefties. He's hilariously provocative.

Basically this.

She hasn't been calling anyone homophobic or racist etc or even insinuating it. I don't really understand, she's an uber liberal who is spouting boring, old popular opinions?

When Hitchens was going on about Britain, the camera kept panning to her rolling her eyes looking uninterested. Then dismissing people's views outright when they spoke their mind i.e. the bloke on gay marriage. He has his view, and she just completely dismissed it outright. It's the equivalent to post a laughing smiley on the caf as a way of dismissing people's opinions.

There's nothing wrong with a bit of traditionalism.

EDIT: The other thing was her answer to the British one. "Oh we were all out on the streets with our bunting celebrating Britain" as if she lived in this beautiful, utopia, with everyone of all colours and creeds living in perfect harmony. As we discussed recently, it isn't what Britain is.

Self's ambition to include the maximum number of long words in his answers that he can, hopefully those others won't understand, is very irritating.

He's a very punchable guy, and I dress to the left.

She didn't just dismiss and say you're wrong, she argued her points. Besides it was a silly opinion. (Aren't we talking about the guy who said that relatives getting married would be a natural progression from gays getting married?). You blast her for rolling her eyes but laugh at Hitchens for refusing to acknowledge her when she was responding to him.

Essentially you've just projected annoying things you've encountered in other liberals (......possibly on the caf) because of her views.

And yet you hilariously lament and moan at Owen Jones doing the same on the other side.

You are some parody, Al. A ridiculous hypocritical mess.

I didn't watch the episode, so I don't know, but the impression I got was that Owen Jones did the exact opposite - stating views everyone already held, and thus it seemed like he was making great points.

It was her view on Britain that really got me. I hear things like that and almost think they're over-compensating. At least Hitchens was honest with his views.

She gave the bloke a very condescending look rather than just explaining her view. She could've taken his argument apart properly if she wanted, rather than shooting a funny look.

Just getting to the point where Self destroyed the Cobra guy.

It's Self that deserves your scorn really. He was on form tonight.

- 'If you're against gay marriage, you're a homophobe.'
- 'If you think immigration is a problem, you're racist.'
- 'Do you know this obscure statistic from 50 years ago? No, didn't think so. Hmm? Oh no I don't know it either.'

Yeah but as you said, I reckon he was just on a wum. I'm not keen on him anyway.

Hello Alastair

I've stopped taking QT seriously, it's basically a couple of politicians towing the party line and a couple of guests trying to be funny. It's like a middle class version of pantomime where people cheer their favorites and boo anyone that makes fun of their precious little opinions.

Yea it's fecking shit and some of the questions are terrible.

I've given up on QT also.

There's no real debate, they just regurgitate the same old lines..over and over and never deviate.

From my view Peter Hitchens has a persecution complex that wouldn't look out of place in Fox News.
