Rafael

To be honest, I thought he was really poor tonight. But I'm not too worried about it, it was unlikely that we were going to be punished because of it. He is only 18 and I expect that he will have bad games as he continues to mature and learn the game. He will be a really good player in a couple of years.

Fergie: I Can’t Tell Da Silvas Apart

610x.jpg

“I can hardly tell them apart, except that one is married and wears a ring,” said Ferguson. “It will be interesting to find out if their football ability is identical too. There’s every chance it is because Fabio captained the Brazil team at every youth level. Rafael has been a revelation this season. He’s impressed us a lot and justified being picked whenever he’s played. Some people might have been a bit surprised I’ve picked him over Wes Brown and Gary Neville at times, but I feel the boy has something special. But all the players, Gary and Wes included, are supportive of him. They think he’s fantastic. Rafael doesn’t speak English that well but his understanding of football is marvellous and we have high hopes for him.”

Viva Da Silvas, Viva Da Silvas, running down the pitch, don’t know which is which, Viva Da Silvas

Married already? This Brasilians sure are quick to give their vows, hopefully she's not 11 like Kleberson's wife.

the one on the left is fabio and rafael is on the right ..
fergie needs new glasses

One of them should shave their head so we can tell the difference.

It's pretty easy really, Rafael is the one with the blue head and the eye patch...

Can't believe no one's picked up on that yet.

You don't understand, they mean mad as in a bit strange for 18 year olds in general to be married.

How can it only help him? It may not hinder him in any way, but how would it help him?

He can have a kid and then the kid grows and marries at 18, then he grows and we sign him at 15...by that time he will be 50 years old, technology will be so good that he will have an injection and will abel ablo to play, and will play alongside his brother, son, and grandson for Manchester United. And we'll be the first ever team to have achieved that.

Hmm...

What if we could do it for both twins?

Rafael: I Love This Club

16/01/2009

Almost unknown when he arrived at United a year ago with his twin brother Fabio, Rafael has been quick to make his mark at Old Trafford. Already a world champion, he’s intent on more silverware to cap a stunning maiden campaign...

A year ago you began training at United – did you think you could come so far, so quickly?
When I arrived, I had not played for a year. I was surprised when I played against Peterborough in August, I never thought it would happen so soon. I know my ability, but my training was not good at first. After the first game, the boss said some very good things about me, which was fantastic for me because I love this club. I am already thinking of being here in many, many years. One year ago I was not even playing, now to play so much is fantastic.

There are a few Brazilians at United these days – does that help make you feel at home?
Yes, very much. When I first came here, there were no Brazilians and only Ronaldo who spoke Portuguese. Now there's Nani, Anderson, Ronaldo, Manucho, Rodrigo (Possebon), (Evandro) Brandao... Fabio, my brother, of course. It is very nice, and very helpful that I can speak Portuguese, but it's not so good for my English!

You're young and learning, what areas of your game are you trying to improve most?
I think being in defence, because here is completely different to Brazil. The right-back in Brazil is always attacking, attacking, attacking, but not here. For me, maybe sometimes it is that way because I like attacking, but it’s not usually that way in England so I want to improve my defending.

Gary Neville is one of your direct rivals for the right-back position, but is he helping you?
Rivals, yes, but he has helped me so much. All the time he is helping me. In games we've played together he is always telling me where the right position is to be. He knows so much. I want the position of right-back, but Gary has been very good to me.

How enjoyable was it to score your first goal at Arsenal, even though United lost?
(Smiles) I will never forget that game. because this was my first goal for United, and a nice goal too! United and Arsenal is a big game, so it was very good to score. I did not celebrate because the team was losing. If we had got another goal, then I would have celebrated more.

What were your thoughts ahead of the Manchester derby, and facing Robinho? Were you pleased with how you played?
That game, I did not play well. It was my first derby and I don’t know why, but I don’t think I played well. But before that game, in Brazil, everybody was ‘ah, Robinho’, but ‘Who is Rafael?’ Now, the people in Brazil know. After the game we traded shirts, he said ‘good work’ and wished me good luck for the rest of the season.

What are your aims for the remainder of the season?
I want titles. We are world champions already this season, but I want more – including the Premier League. And I want to make lots of appearances. For me, at 18 years old, it has been amazing. Now I want more.

Keep up the good work.

He's been harsh on himself, I thought he was terrific against Man City and Robinho personally.

Looking forward to seeing his brother some time soon.

Nutter, he was excellent against City!
