If Johnson's rumoured wages are true, it's mental. Bit like Ashley Young really, though this season Young has done well for the club.
All bias aside if I was Sterling I'd be looking to move. He can earn more money at a better side with more chance of winning trophies and play in the champions league every year. He owes Liverpool nothing and should do what's best for himself.

Because all the Liverpool fans would stay loyal to their employers if they could earn twice as much elsewhere. He's good enough to be playing in any top 4 side and wants to be paid like it. Liverpool can match what he's been offered elsewhere or he's likely gone.

Seems like they offered him a fair amount then, at least relative to their other players. He's a quality player but if I was a Liverpool fan I'd be alright with him being sold for big money.
More importantly though, I'd want everyone involved in that Johnson deal fired immediately.

You don't do interviews without your club's permission pointing the blame at the club for not offering you a deal earlier, and hinting that your ambitions are bigger than that club. He didn't need his agent leaking stories to the media about him not accepting even 180k.
There's no shame in wanting to leave at all, all he needed to do was just to keep his head down, say nothing, make it clear that you'd love to retire there and wait for the summer, that's all he needed to do. Imagine de gea doing something similar to this? if de gea leaves in the summer without making a fuss, i'd still respect him for his attitude and professionalism during his time at the club, sterling is just a massive twat.
Lets be honest, As much as this is all fun cause is disturbing Liverpool and its fans its a bit twatish by Sterling. Maybe not just a bit too.
The premise is that FSG were confident enough to ignore it.
I would say at least what Sturridge is earning from the doctor's table. It can also be a function of the duration of the contract. I believe he was offered a 5 year contract and he feels (rightly if I say so) that he needs to wait and see where it goes before committing the best part of his career at the quoted wages. He knows he still has 2 years left on his contract and Liverpool will not sell if they don't want to and hence I strongly feel this is just an attempt to get more money.
Apparently, Young's wage is that high cuz he didn't get a lump sum signing on bonus (or some other bonus, can't remember) and instead gets it weekly over the length of his contract.

I get why people are slating Sterling to an extent but he is by far Liverpools best player these days. If I was him if want to be on the same wages as Sturridge. I don't see a problem in that.

The quotes at the time do not suggest confidence, they suggest anger, frustration and desperation. Sorry to burst your bubble but this was not an example of a genius play by your club. I didn't realize you would be so touchy about it.

As for the 'play' I think Suarez thought he was in a stronger position than he thought when he went to the press. FSG were pretty hard nosed and prevented the sale. I'd suggest that was good ownership.

Bollocks. If Barca had bid 40m+£1 that summer and pursued it legally Suarez would have gone. If Sterling has a release clause and a club he wants to move to match the set price then he will leave. No amount of backslipping Scouse bravado will change that.
He won't get more money now. I doubt that any club would pay him 150k per week. He isn't nowhere worth that amount currently.
More importantly, he wouldn't get as much playtime as he get in Liverpool. Lets say that Liverpool refuse to sell him on England. Then the only clubs which could offer more than Liverpool are Bayern, Real, Barca and Paris. The first three have significantly better players on his position and wouldn't spend a large fee and those big wages on him. Even if they do, he wouldn't be a starter there and so won't develop as well as in Liverpool.
If I was him, I would have stayed at Liverpool for another three years or so and then leave as a finished product.

I'll give you another chance to reply to my previous post. Point scoring jibes are easy and I deserved that one (you have indeed wound me up with your blinkered stubborness, I'm content enough with myself and the validity of my viewpoint to admit that) however it takes more effort to address the points of the post. I suspect you can't, at least not with anything coherent and logical.

As for the issue - I can't see how you can argue that FSG didn't play a blinder back in the summer of 2013. They had a player who spoke to the national press about how hard done by he was, he applied huge pressure to be sold for his clause fee.
FSG didn't budge they called his bluff, they will have consulted their attorneys and obviously came to the conclusion that their position was strong - given the clause was verbal rather than written (IIRC). Suarez ran out of options.
A year went by and that £40m valuation inflated to almost double - FSG won.
As for Barca coming in with £40m in 2013 - that's too conjecture-riden to be able to debate properly.

He's worth that amount if it's what Chelsea/City are offering. He's worth more to clubs in England with the homegrown quotas. If Liverpool refuse to sell him he has every right to just see out his deal and move on a free, the reality is the Liverpool owners wouldn't turn down a 40m offer if he has 18 months or less on his deal despite all the posturing.
He could take a lower wage at Arsenal, United, Chelsea and the foreign top clubs and still earn more money from endorsements from just being at a big club.

If true, it's odd that Sky show more Liverpool games than virtually any other team regardless how well they're doing.
Pretty sure Liverpool's global reach is bigger than any other English club bar United. That's pretty common knowledge. It's also whyLiverpool remain relevant regardless of on-field performance and why last season saw a total media explosion around the club - the club is very big news.
Na Liverpool's marketing brand is pretty poor in comparison to us Chelsea and somewhat Arsenal.. But their fanbase is unquestionable.

Personally I think he's more of a one trick pony. His speed and agility are the key elements of his game and he's top class at both, but I don't know if that will be enough long term.
I've read a couple of you think time is on his side. I disagree. At some point that won't be enough, defenders will know how to take him and if he waits too long, other clubs could notice too. And if he hasn't agreed on a new deal by the time the new flavour of the month shines, he might miss out on a good opportunity.
If he just looks at his personal future, he has no other choice than to move to a club that has a record of winning trophies (and I'm talking about this century...). I think that was true > 5 years ago, but I highly doubt that's true anymore. Chelsea's brand has grown massively since the takeover, and Arsenal have always been pretty big. Your CL absence will have hurt you massively, as will the lack of any stars staying in the team aside from Gerrard.
United clearly have the biggest reach, then I'd say it's Chelsea in second now, with Liverpool possibly battling with Arsenal in third.
That's the case in Japan. Arsenal thitd, I reckon because of the Japanese players they've had. I have yet to see a Liverpool shirt over here.
