Rashford considering his future...

Cant help but think a lot of people on here dislike Rashford for the stuff he does outside the game and it gives me an uneasy feeling. These are the type of people id gladly beat the shit out of with their own shoes. Not saying you are one its just very prevalent in this thread.
There's also people on here who undoubtedly give Rashy a pass for what he does outside the pitch. Goes both ways.

I don't give too many shits what players do off the field (within reason and the law of course) but if they are not performing on the field then I don't care if they are mother Teresa, get rid of them. This is a football club first and foremost despite what the last 15 or so years suggest. If players aren't performing on the pitch then they need to sort it out and if they don't then they need moving on.

Common sense.

And when any player mentions that we aren't living up to expectations as a club and mentions moving on.... Get him! Flay him!

Interesting double standards....

They are free to hand in a transfer request if they think we aren't fulfilling their expectations

I don't particularly care tbh, just making a comparison between the shouty types on both ends, who are often inconsistent and hypocritical...

Speaking of standards - there are certain standards we expect our players on the pitch to give us. At the very bare minimum, it's to work hard on behalf of your teammates.

Let's not throw around that word with what Rashford has been dishing up the last 2 seasons.

There's also people on here who undoubtedly give Rashy a pass for what he does outside the pitch. Goes both ways.

One is a lot more benign than the other. With your logic you arent including all the turbulence the other players who have suffered form have gone through at the club. Marcus is a very divisive figure and he shouldnt be.

Yes - but this is usually a question of fan perception. Body language - other, frankly, nonsense factors. People see what they want to see.

As fans, we aren't in a position to correctly judge whether an individual player is "working hard" (enough).

I think Neville has been referring to the fact that the team has plenty of self-serving players who leak to the press when they're not happy/excuses for poor performances. Something that Rashford's team certainly have done many times this season.

My favourite example is this one (n.b. this was on the 12th of January, the very same day that other big journalists wrote fluff pieces about Rashford)

The striker got on well with former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. But the Norwegian tended not to do much coaching, so Rashford never got to learn properly the predatory instincts of his fellow forward.

So Rashford took a deep breath, overcame his natural shyness and went to Solskjaer to tell him he was unsure what was being asked of him. He said he felt his performances had plateaued because he was being asked to play in so many different roles. Rashford was told to stop moaning.
Like, what is this?

Really? I didn't see the match against Spurs, but a lot of people said he put in more of a shift in the first half. That's good to hear if true.

But if a player is walking around the pitch, not tracking back and not helping out his team-mates, you don't think fans are in a position to be able to call them out on that because we "don't really know"?

I don't need the weather man to tell me it's pissing down outside, it's painfully obvious those that are putting in a shift when they're on the pitch and those that are not.

Why would he be? Not saying he couldn't be but what's the thought process behind thinking it would be him?

Neville has been going on about how he knows who the leaker is and at the same time is being very critical of Rashford and his PR team. Neville used to have a reputation for being a Rashford fan boy and now he is very critical of him and his representatives at the same time saying he knows who the leaker is and it disgusts him?

Pogba and Martial fanboys used to bring out the race card and s**t on everyone criticizing them. Glad to see some different nonsense.

If it was any other player in his place they would be getting flayed, and have been getting flayed, often rightfully so. I don't see a difference between Martial and Rashford at this point. But somehow Rashford always has an excuse prepared for him. Methinks a lot more people are reluctant to say anything bad about him in light of his work off the pitch, and because he is "one of our own".

I couldn't care less what he does with his free time. More power to him. This is a football club though, or so I'm told. And he has been pretty terrible for quite some time in the footballing department. When is enough enough? Or is the club just going to keep him forever? As a mascot of sorts? A big club would consider moving him this summer while his stock is still high. Even more so if it really is him leaking garbage to the press. And if he rekindles his love of the game elsewhere - great. Wouldn't be the first to leave and find success.

it would be quite mad for Man Utd to sell Rashford, just like Arsenal to sell Saka/ESR. I don't think it will happen. The talent is there just need to find a way to get him motivated again and pick his form up. If it is an attitude issue then it is another story.

I actually don't - no.

Fans don't know what instructions the player was given. Fans don't know the fitness/injury status of the player. Fans will often conclude that a player is "walking around the pitch" without having any insight into the game plan laid down by the coach.

So - again - no, I don't think a random person watching a game (usually not even live) is well placed to assess whether an individual player is working hard enough (which was my point).

But both sides do exist & have their fare share of deluded thinking.

Why does one need to necessarily watch the match live? The match is the match.

You're right. He's been given plenty of opportunity to rediscover his form and it just hasn't happened yet, a line will need to be drawn under this sometime if he can't turn it around. I would think that point is approaching soon.

Hold on, you guys are not trying to make out watching a match on the telly is the same as watching a match pitch side?

Classic example of a 'problem' that is the creation of the club. Do not get me wrong, I love the boy. His story is deeply moving and his principles and values have rightly set him apart from many others who rise from poverty to extreme wealth, but who never forget that they came from poverty.

That said, the idea that 'Rashy' wants to go somewhere where he will be guaranteed first team football, only serves to underline the sort of culture that has been allowed to flourish at United. Some of our players believe that they are bigger than the club. They believe that first team selection is not a right to be earned, but rather a entitlement, which they should be guaranteed. Under Sir Alex Ferguson, Rashford would likely have trodden the path of McGrath, Sharpe, Ince, Beckham, Keane et al. Players who ultimately thought they were too big for the club or who Sir Alex thought had become unmanageable.

There is simply no room in football for sentiment. If Rashford's performances do not merit a first team place and he is not willing to stay and fight for one, then I would hold the door open for him as he leaves. Terribly sad that it appears that he is unwilling to roll up his sleeves and play for the club that has helped give him the amazing platform to play the game he loves. But, I absolutely would not want him to stay out of some guilt trip.

Likely that his handlers and hangers on have his ear and he is more inclined to listen to them than anyone else. Enough is enough. Let him go.

I didn't say that you necessarily have to watch the match live.

But if your aim is to assess whether an individual player is working as hard as he should, it's probably better to observe him live.

(And by "live" I obviously mean in the flesh, not "live" as opposed to "later" in TV terms).

Hold on, you guys are not trying to make out watching a match on the telly is the same as watching a match pitch side?

Some people do.

It usually means they've never actually watched football pitch side (so they don't understand the difference).

I think there is not much to debate here. Just a decision tree:

Man Utd likes to win title -- can we win title with Rashford as starter ? - Not a single chance based on his last two years' performance -- find one that could perform better and bench Rashford - Rashford did not accept the role ? -- feel free to go

If go by this decision tree only Sancho and De Gea will be left in the first team.

It isn't. You only see so much of the pitch on TV. At a game you can also take note of what players out of the camera range are doing, say not exactly busting a gut to get up the pitch. Or gasping for air as though they have just run a marathon after running five metres.

Saka and ESR are actual talents though. Rashford is a busted flush.

Both Saka and ESR have yet scored as many goals as Rashford in a single season, not even close. The talent is or was there. i don't know exactly what happened to him.

He hasn't developed his game at all and injuries ruined him a bit too.

Walking down the street like Mr. T with custom made Rashy bling, and telling your senior captain to feck off knobhead. Yeah, proper shrinking violet

Still... I wouldn't say it was time to give up on him though. I mean feck... It's like half the cafe don't even care what a new manager could do with him. They've had enough apparently.

Rashford said that to Maguire?
