Last 12 months, I agree. Before that season he was inconsistent with many poor games but had good numbers. Before that he had many good games against all sort of opponents.

Maybe it's the regency bias, it's happening for Martial too that players career is judged based on their last season.
 
He is a joke. 'Work hard' in pre season, walk through games. Just quit football Rashy and focus on charity and celebrity off the pitch stuff, something that you actually want to do and think about while you are walking around on the pitch

I actually think Rashford is better off on the left, than in the center. His strength is running with the ball into space, and his finishing is decent. I have my doubts about his hold-up play, ability to trap the ball from the air, springing the offside trap, or even picking the right pass. And I do not see him developing those areas to function as an effective center forward.

For me, he'll be someone who is best used to gather the ball near the half-line, dribble forward, and cut inside to shoot / pass central. Wing is his best place where interplay instructions can be simple, and we can utilize his strengths.

We have been terrible at developing players ... players in the last few years have come here and regressed. That being said, I don't think that's the case with Rashford. IMO he's been rightly pegged by multiple coaches as a wide player / wide-forward.

Agreed, Rashford is better suited as LW and that's where he played his best football. Martial is better CF than LW, he played both positions well but CF better than LW.

Rashford has almost 0 hold up play and can't play with his back to the goal.
 
Really widespread wierd views about his charity work these days. Seems like a lot of people quietly held these views for a year and now see safety in numbers

Of course and he can't head at all. He hardly even jumps up. He can't hold the ball. His long range shooting was good for a while but now has been terrible. If he was a foreign player he would have been slagged just like Martial.

Rashford is a one trick pony, with that trick being kicking the ball past a player and sprinting past them. Playing him upfront limits that ability. Although given how thick he is and the fact he doesn't bother looking up and rarely makes the correct decision, severely limiting that trick may be a good thing. But then you just end up with a mediocre striker so what's the point? Hopefully he can be coached to firstly put in some effort and secondly not be so selfish when on the ball. When he first broke into the team he had flashes of brilliance, so not all hope is lost.

Rashford? versatile? He doesn't have the team skills to be a central focal point in a control based system. Even Ronaldo is more versatile, he at least shows it in the one game a month he randomly decides to play like a complete striker. He actually has a better skillset for versatility.

Another mini-rant is ETH's system isn't easier or more straightforward to play in for the likes of Rash. Keep seeing it implied for some reason. It's as easy to play in as it is to coach. Basically it's not. It's deceptively difficult. You're going to be making ten times the decisions...split second decisions, often under pressure, in tight areas. You need to be a natural decisionmaker at a minimum to succeed. Meanwhile Rashford just concluded a 6 month stretch of passing to his man at point.blank.range, rinse, repeat and never even figured out how to stop doing it. Rashford so far looks a tenth the player when he isn't given freedom to go for goal when in doubt.

I've not been a fan of Martial at any position. I've come to the conclusion that we'll never see his talent translated into sustained performance because he just isn't bothered to put in the work. At CF, he is a tiny bit better than on the wing, because he has good close control, gets the ball to feet and doesn't have to do much running. But he isn't a long-term CF prospect in my mind anyway.

I understand that’s where/how coaches have used him.
His hold up play is not great or it’s near abysmal but rarely are young strikers great at it. You adopt the ability with experience. A great side of his development as a striker was forsaken to exploit his pace on the break from out wide.
Funnily enough, apart from try beat his marker for pace he doesn’t really do much on the ball from wide. Runs, if he can’t beat the man for pace, he cuts in and shoots.The lad has no creative juice in him and we’ll continue to call him a low IQ player because he lacks variation to his game. If played central that creative burden is taken off him and can focus on just exploiting spaces. This should have been the focus of his development.
I’m not saying he will be a GOAT, just believe he’d benefit us more if used centrally and if he is not of the right quality. We can move on knowing he is too limited to play around a narrow touch line.

“Many good games against all sorts of opponents” is a serious stretch. That sounds like revisionism rather than recency bias. His performances have always been mostly average to crap even when he got on the scoresheet.

I think our fans are being way too harsh on Rashford. I think he’s had a very hectic post lockdown football period. I felt this last summer as I thought he should have pulled out of the Euros.

He’s had hardly any break since the original pandemic lockdown in fairness. He played all of the post lockdown period with a negligible break after and then went straight into the season where he got seriously overplayed and played through injury. Then he came straight back and went to the Euros with no break and then straight into our season.

I think a few months rest and reset would have done him a world of good in regards to both his mental as well as physical fitness and I reckon we’ll see a very different Rashford this season to last season.

No he will not. He will play good for awhile, suits will give him new bumper contract, (plus he is mr. ManUtd, marketable, MBE, and all that), only for him to turn into last season player. Even worst, being on more money and media pampering and protecting him, will be even "bigger" than he is now.
No one will buy him and will stink place for years to come.

remember he got dogs abuse after his penalty miss at the euros, from 'fans' - i use the term loosely, and media alike. that's bound to have an impact. it's no coincidence either that maguire, shaw, sancho et al had poor starts to their seasons also, as did the likes of harry kane.
i hope he pulls through whatever funk he's on and ETH plays him properly this season.
