Europa standard? They went out to fecking Braga without scoring a single goal over two legs, a Braga team that was outplayed by the third best team in Poland for 145 minutes of their previous tie. Europa they won't even play in next season and with the way City and Tottenham progress, they might not even get a shot at CL football in a few years because top three are so far ahead of them it's unthinkable they will catch up anytime soon. It would take a £150m+ investment to get them close - they don't have a single top quality player across their defence, their midfield is dependant on one player who isn't even as good as he used to be and a Portuguese that will likely leave when he impresses enough to earn a big move, and neither of the two strikers they bought for a combined fee of £58m would even get into our first team, or any other top 4 team for that matter.
And just for the record - four of the six teams we have faced this season were their domestic champions, and it would have been five had Inter progressed but they got fecked up by Benitez so much that they couldn't overcome this Schalke side who are apparently average at best.

They always claim we have an easy run throughout the CL campaign. The group stage, we played the Scottish champions, regardless of how much their football is beneath English football. At the end of the day, they were champions and were there on merit. Valencia are usually around the top 3-4 in Spanish football, and are a good side. Bursaspor were the Turkish champions, again not on the level of English football, but they can't help that. Like Rangers, they were there on merit of being champions in their league.
In the knockouts we've had Marseille, who are the French champions and Chelsea, who are the English champions.
Their excuses are pathetic.
Liverpool really shouldn't talk about easy runs to the final given some of their previous cup wins.

Our run isn't too dissimilar to the sort of teams Liverpool were playing when they racked up 4 European Cups in a decade in the 70s/80s, when only league champions actually qualified. We've knocked out the champions of Scotland, Turkey, France and England, and may well play the champions of Spain in the final.

The quality is much better now.
The 2nd and 3rd best English and Spanish teams are much better competition than the champs of Lichtenstein and Finland, or whoever they let in before.
Under the old format, United would be shoo-ins for at least a final berth every year we qualified. Our only serious competition would be the champions of Spain, with a milder threat from champions of Italy and Germany.
Outside that it would largely be Uefa Cup standard.
It's amazing how 'classless' we apparently are as United fans yet most don't try and belittle the triumphs of Liverpool.
