Red Dead Redemption

I've just got Undead Nightmare, it's pretty good. Although it's a bit too empty for me, there seems to be a hell of a lot less random encouter stuff as well.

I liked the name of the achievement for killing your first big foot "6 years in the making", a nod to that damn GTA: San Andreas rumour that had me searching the hills for days.

That's quite smart.

Just starting this game. Not one for open world games am I but hooked on this I really am.

You don't find it a touch repetitive? It's not too often I can't be bothered to finish a game, but I couldn't find the motivation with this.

feck i searched for Bigfoot, Leatherface and looked for UFOs and everything.
Really went to my head at the time with the camera. Not to mention the "ghost in CJs house" which actually turned out to be the fog on the street coming through a wall in the house.

It is a bit repetitive yeah, the characters and cutscenes even seem a bit watered down (apart from the bits with Seth, i liked those). The biggest issue i've got is that it feels too empty now, as if there's nothing to do but the missions which obviously entails a lot of travelling. I liked being able to do some of the challenges whilst i was on my way somewhere far off but now they're very limited. I suppose i was kinda asking too much but seeing what Rockstar did with Ballad of Gay Tony and The Lost and Damned i was expecting a bit more.

I was starting to get a little bored with it but then i found one of the horses of the apocolypse and that got my attention again, I'll stick with it.

Yeah, I snared one of those, too, but I just couldn't stay interested. The emptiness you mention is a definite factor in that. I reckon I played for 6 or 7 hours, all in all.

borrowed it off a mate and got 100%. didn't get full honor because I kept accidentally shooting people!

what's the dealio with being 'evil' does it change the ending at all?

I got the game of the year edition which includes Undead nightmare. I don't know if the original version included that. I started playing it this weekend and it has been pretty fun although traveling from one town to another is a bit boring if there are no bandits in between.

Just finished it. Great game!

The ending had me stunned at first, and I didn't know what to make of it, but afterwards I began to appreciate it actually. That said I knew something was about to happen in the end since the game didn't finish once you reached the "farm", otherwise it surely would have ended there.

I actually cried out 'NO' and sat with my mouth hanging open at the ending. Its the only thing thats stopping me from playing again, I dont want to go through that all over again

It's one of, if not the best, video game ending I've ever played... it's fantastic.

I really have no idea why a lot of people had a problem with it... it's a western for christ sake.

Yeah the ending was quite the kick in the nutsack after everything you go through in the game. Oh well, at least the epilogue mission in Blackwater compensates a little for that!

 Yup I didn't play the game for a good while after that ending. I actually wanted to explore the environment and kill animals and shit like that but the character change was too much for me. His son isn't very likable.

The ending was shite - I wanted to carry on exploring and shit with the main guy.

I thought the ending was class, rounding off an already brilliant story. Probably still my favourite game ever this, it's the only game I've ever completed 100%... twice.

I played a little bit of this again yesterday and its still great. Graphics are fantastic on the 360. I wonder why they never ported it to the PC. Would make sense for them to do it now and also release a remaster on the PS4 alongside it.

I know that there's been too many remakes but it does kinda make sense in a business view for rockstar considering it would sell loads on PC probably. And if PC and PS4 architecture is meant to be similar then why not.

I should rebuy Undead Nightmare for the 360 now my PS3 doesn't work.

Anyone else prefer UN? I played that first and then got the original "main" game which I found boring in comparison.

Weird this has been bumped when I started replaying it myself a couple of days ago.

I believe it never got remade on PC because the coding is a complete mess or something. Basically someone tried but it was too difficult.

Amazing game though. The scenery is beautiful, the characters are brilliant and I enjoyed the story. Probably the best game I've ever played, it has everything.

When I completed GTA IV and V that was it, I couldn't find that much more to do. When I completed RDR I never felt like that. I'd spend all day hunting and exploring, then I'd spend all night playing Liars Dice or Blackjack until riding out at sunrise to look at the incredible map and hunt some scary ass grizzly bears.

Hope Rockstar work on a prequel.

You should have probably played the original first  Undead nightmare was good fun but the main game has a really good story/atmosphere to it. The first half of the game was brilliant...second half in Mexico wasn't the same quality.

@JamesB__ One of the TakeTwo executives said that Red Dead and Bully (which is also great) are going to be permanent franchises now so I would imagine that a sequel to both is likely. There's been quite a few rumours I think.

Edit - I misread your prequel for sequel '_'

Yeah I probably should. I really liked the atmosphere and style of UN and I guess going from that to a "normal" theme was a bit disappointing. Maybe if I wait a couple of years and try again I'll enjoy it more.

Yeah I used prequel because a sequel just wouldn't make sense for the franchise.

RDR is about the end of the old Wild West. A sequel would be changing the genre of the game which would be crap. I loved that it was essentially GTA Wild West, so if/when they make a new one I'd love it to be set around 1890 in the height of the Wild West. It could be completely removed from RDR, or it could be an actual prequel to the story and focus on John Marston and the gang he was part of, although I feel that would limit them as they'd have to keep the map very similar - apart from Tumbleweed.

You completely made me think they'd announced a sequel!!!

I'm playing through this myself. Enjoying it so much, definitely one of the best games I've ever played. I'm really annoyed that you can switch difficulty though as I'm stuck on normal. Can't wait to finish it and start the DLC. But I've been playing this for months (just having a good time in the wild of mexico). I dont get much time to play games these days.

If only you could do more with hogtied victims though

I'm going to assume you've dropped the victim on the train track and waited for the inevitable?

Funny, I posted in the random game chat thread about how I only just finished this a few weeks ago. At first some years back I thought it was basically over once you got the ranch and the rest was just epilogue as I was bored with the story. Then one day I accidentally find out
John Marsten dies
.

Changes the ending quite a bit...

Loved it, the best game I have ever played, a bit of a shame they brought out GTA V out on PS4 and not this game

There's chat of a follow-up... which would be awesome.

I like this game, storywise, atmospherewise, and so on... but my goodness the gameplay gets repetitive. A favourite, but no-where near the best I've played. Dark Souls, The Last of Us, Portal 2, Deus Ex and Skyrim all trump it, for me.

Supposedly due to the way this game was coded, a PC port or a next gen port is out the question.

It was a fantastic game in its time, I'm not sure a remaster would quite hold up in a world where we now have GTA V and The Witcher 3 (soon). Just give it a proper sequel, westerns never get enough love from the gaming or movie industry.

I never finished this. Maybe I should.

The map does get a bit boring though. Apart from looking really nice, its always the same stuff going on.

I dunno, maybe half way through Mexico?
I still need to finish GTA V too!

Maaaaaan... not even made it to Blackwater? Pick that shit up and finish it, mate. And learn from this thread, it ain't over just because you're kicking back at the ranch!

GTA V is sound too... better game, overall, but I just loved the western feel of Red Dead... and I'm no western buff!

Wait, whats Blackwater? I think I was kinda far into it? Feel like I was 3/4 of the way through but could be wrong.
