I finally managed to pick this up yesterday, will play it next week. I'm quite excited by all the positive reviews. The only issue is time, because I hate getting half way through a game, and I rarely re pick it up and carry on after a break.
Hopefully in a couple of weeks I'll finally be able to start moving into my new house, which will require trips to ikea on a regular basis, plus painting etc. So I'll try to cram this game in!

Had a bit of a mare yesterday. I bought the special suit so I could cheat in Poker but I fecked it up twice. This led to me having a duel with (and therefore killing) 2 of the 3 poker players in Armadillo. Thankfully though, it's much easier playing the shite guy that remains, but it's not quite the same when there are 2 empty seats 
I can't shake the feeling this game was a little short.....I loved it, and am still playing online...I just get the feeling that the main missions didn't go on long enough for me. There were too many herding, breaking in horses nonsense and just not enough of genuinely exciting adventure missions...I remember GTA going on for longer. I think you maybe should've gotten to do more stuf with Jack before going to find the Fed....This could all of course merely because I enjoyed it so much the time flew past and I regret there not being enough of it though
I haven't even started the online. Not enough time now with exams at the door but I'll try to squeeze a few hours here and there. I think I can get a platinum trophy on this game and it would be my first.
No doubt Rockstar will have some DLC lined up to whet the appetite further. May be a while though.

The game presentation is just fantastic, from the graphics, to the huge map, to the whole old western focus, to the voice acting and the characters. Add to that some really fun gameplay and I'm putting my money on this to be game of the year. Rockstar is brilliant at developing games.

Yeah Mockney, that was some quick gaming. I take it you didn't took much time riding slowly and stopping in the hills appreciating the scavenging coyotes in the distance.
Cougars are a lot worse IMO, countless times they killed my horse (or me). Motherfeckers strike with absolutely no warning. The challenge of killing them with a knife, though not hard was the most stressing thing I did in the game.

Am I the only one that finds bear hunting piss easy. I've yet to be attacked or killed by one. Even better when you go up against two of the bastards

Is there a way to quick skin ? Im in a hunting mood but the skinning cut scene is tedious.
If you have your horse nearby hover it over the animal and then skin it, only way to skip the cut scene but still alot of messing about moving the horse everytime.
Fair enough, is it just me or do you not find bears, they find you.

I once did a skinning glitch where I skinned my perfectly healthy Horse, which was fecking strange. Left me stranded in the middle of fecking nowhere.
Use a product (forgot the fecking name) that you can buy in stores to attract animals.
Bait. But bears really aren't that hard to find, I just roam around Tall trees in the horse (avoid stopping) and try to spot one distant enough. A headshot with the Buffalo Rifle and they're down. The problem is when you go and skin them and more show up, or wolves at the same time, etc. it's a mess.
When they catch us by surprise it's the shit, and it doesn't help that the weapon keeps being auto-holstered, between taking it off and pushing dead-eye they put us down already.

Are there wild boars in this game? Because I swear I got killed by an animal that looked like one. In fact, it was definitely a wild boar.

has anyones horse ever just dropped dead for no reason? Mine did, there was no snakes or other animals nearby. The poor feckers time just must have been up
Yeah mine died on me whilst charging down the road, it's a nice touch really.

Capture and then buy the deeds for the 3 main horses and then call on them whenever.
Anywhere inparticular good for them?
In Mexico you can get a good white horse with a darker head around a rock near El Madragal.
That name is probably wrong but if you go north from a place with a name similar to that you can find a bunch of horses running around up there.

That's the Hungarian Half-Breed isn't it? The White one with Dark Head and tail. I use it quite often.
Yeah, that's the main one i use.
In Tall Trees and the Great Plains you see jet black horses running around. Those are American Standardbreds, basically a Black Beauty. Very good horse and looks the part too.

I'm still riding on the stallion you get early on in the game, ive grown attached! Need to upgrade though, I'm struggling in the races. Still winning, but barely. I'll ride out and get a black headed horse then, thanks for the advice. I'll leave my stallion out for the cougars, if I can't have him no one can!
O and while I'm on, did anyone else have trouble knifing wolves? I can't seem to knife them before they kill me. I think actually attacking with the knife is an issue for me, do you just equip the knife and press the shoot button?

Buy the deeds? Is that from the shops?
Just shoot your horse and skin him, then he will always be part of you
Its trickyish, but just aim at them and repeatedly hit the attack button. Later you will have to kill much more vicious animals with your knife
Yep in the shops, but you need to capture the horse 1st and then buy the deeds. There is a golden, White and Black one each found in each of the 3 districts. The 3 deeds you need to buy are the most expensive so you cant miss them
Can you not just find a black horse, rope him and then ride him?
Yea, but if you lose him, that's it, he's gone. And you'll have to find a new one.
Buy the deed and you can whistle upon as many as you like.
Even if you hitch him somewhere?
If you hitch him, he's just saved there, so as long as he's alive you'll find him there.
If he dies, he's dead, killed, mort. RIP.
Unless you have a deed when you can call upon infinite numbers of the same horse.
