Red Dead Redemption

Ah I see.. Well I'm on my stallion, which is still apparently on of the top 3 horses in the game. I just though he was a bit slow. Plus I'm stuck on about $600, I need to learn to master finger fillet. Good money in that apparently.

I must say, I even found the 'fast' horses to be slow as feck.

So what is a fast way to make some $ ?

In the beginning I'd say bounties and skinning wolves are the fastest ways. Wolves usually travel in packs and their skins and heart go for a very nice price so it's time-effective.

I liked poker. If you like Texas Hold 'Em it's a good way to make cash. If you don't like it you'll be bored. You can lose money as well of course, but I was always pretty good/lucky.

I remember when I first started the game, after exploring for a while and getting some money, one of the first things I did was go to the house at McFarlane's Ranch where they play poker and joined in.

It was the middle of the night and there was a thunder and lightening storm outside, and I just loved the whole setting, sitting playing poker, hearing the thunder and rain, and listening to the idle chat of the other players.

Loved the game from then on in.

My horse, he... He.. He just dropped dead. :(

I was actually tempted to reload the last save, to bring him back.. But then I realised I'm a hardy cowboy, a horse is a horse.. Actually a little gutted though. Anyway, I called over some other horse, it just didn't feel right. So I went and bought the deeds to another of my Kentucky breed. In my head, he was my horses son. Ahh, that's better.

Still struggling for money, need to do some more bounties, and poker I don't really have the patience for. I managed to work out knifing, and had a lovely safari sitting on top of the train shooting animals.

Great, great game.

In the 1st half of the game I skinned practically everything I killed, so I was never stuck for cash. You should have skinned the horse you were so attached to, it fetches about $20

In the 2nd half of the game you get loads of cash for all the missions so all is well

Definately. There are some areas of the map where you are attacked by waves and waves of wolves, I sold 20 of them on the market today and given that yoou can get upwards of $10 for the skin, $10 for the meat and $15 for the heart, you can get some serious money. Bounties are good fun too and sometimes can net you a couple of hundred. Some of the card/dice/finger fillet games can get you a fair amount but can also leave you in the shit so don't try them unless you really know what you're doing.

Incidentally, has anyone completed the hunting challenges? I nearly shat my load when I saw that I had to knife 2 cougars, but i did that surprisingly easily. But feck me, I now have to get 5 racoons, 5 skunks (both easy enough) and 5 foxes (only ever seen one, keep thinking I've got more but its just coyotes and wolves). So I'm a bit stuck there.

Also, about the horses, buy the deeds when you can (750 if you have high enough honour, 1500 if not) because later in the game, cougars catch you unawares and kill the horse and probably you too. When my first horse died I was on the verge of tears but now I couldn't give a feck, if anything I'm happier, cause I can skin the fecker and get a shiny new one within seconds. I've got deeds for the Kentucky Saddler (the beige stallion you get in game) and the Hungarian Half-Bred, and I must say that there is barely any difference and, if anything, the first one you get is better. I've read that thre American Standardbred (only found on the last map section you unlock) is rapid and probably the best of the 3, so I'll probably nab myself one of them when I can too.

Best thing about the game is that you could play it without doing the missions, don't get me wrong, they're fun, but the random characters, random events and hunting/collecting challenges are keeping me amused for hours. I'm only a few missions into Mexico but I'd say I've played about 10 hours already. And it looks like I'm only about a third of the way through.

My horse that Bonnie gave me got killed today by wolves R.I.P

That biggest criticism I have of this game (and it's a small one) is that the skinning scene gets boring, should be a option to skip it.

As far as the treasure maps go is the only way to find the place they outline to cheat? I just have the one map so far and all it shows is a couple of rocks, it could be anywhere.

Oh and to all those wankers online in freeroam, if I'm clearly hunting for bears how about you feck off and don't shoot me and then repeatedly kill me everytime I respawn.

I dont know if this has been said before, but the animal skins etc are worth more in places where they are rare (pretty obvious aswell, when I think about it). Bear skins will fetch far more in Mexico though, and vice versa, and Mexico specific animal will fetch more the further north you travel

With regards treasure hunting, I managed to do all of them without cheating. Which rock one is it? Is it the rock that looks like a cock?

The first map shows a noose, so it's hanging rock.
Ahh cheers, shouldn't have miss that.

And no from memory I didn't noticed any resemblance a cock from the map, I might still have to come across that one ... I look forward to it.

You know when you just have the moment in a game where you think.. this is fecking awesome?

I had it in Just Cause 2 when I attached my covered an enemy in C4, dangled him from a helicopter, and dropped and blew him and a whole enemy base up.

I had it in this game earlier this afternoon. I had a bounty mission on, I had the bloke hogtied on the back of my long standing horse.. When he dropped dead. No reason, just dead. Unable to call another horse for a while, I started strolling back towards armadillo with the bounty on my back..

So there I was, strolling back towards the Sunset in the distance, when a pack of wolves appeared. I tried shooting at them, but was sluggish with the man on my shoulder. I just about survived them, when 1 last 1 started coming at me, I called for a horse, and it galloped over, squishing the last remaining wolf.

It was brilliant. On the journey back I survived an attack of cougars, and all in all, 2 horses later, i gave the bounty in, in the middle of the night. It was so, so rewarding. Love the game.

This game sounds fecking amazing ! I'm having to make do with my second stint on World of Warcraft on the demo version. Another amazing game in my opinion.

Nothing to be ashamed of. I'm an out and out World of Warcraft fan and proud. Anyone who thinks this is nerdy can go shave me' ball-sack

Do you currently have any characters in the Normal game as a member of the alliance ?

I've been clean of it for a year.

And yes an 80 gnome warlock and 80 human warrior.

:(

80 !

feck. Did you feel it went beyond mere fun for you ? Like you were at it 8 hours a day ? Did you join a guild ? I am flat refusing to. The missus would leave me. I've been offered already

Yep thats precisely it. Became more obsessed with my guild performance instead of my actual work performance, not a healthy balance.

Don't let me put you off though, cracking game if you keep it to minimal doses. There are plenty of casual guilds around too, so no harm in joining them for a goofy laff.

I remember my and my flat mates played it for like a month once after seeing the South Park episode. We all went the exact same looking dwarf and just walked round annoying people. I can see how people can get addicted, it was quite fun, but I think the fact that we didn't take it seriously prevented us from getting too into it.

Back on topic, my friends and I did something very similar on Red Dead. We had a Posse of about 5 of us, and we'd pick a target on the map and just ride the entire map too hunt him down. It was incredibly childish, but it looked hilarious when 5 of us would suddenly appear over the mountains after riding for 10 minutes, all guns blazing, and the poor guy wondering what the hell he did to deserve it.

We'd continue hunting him down till he leaves and then pick the next poor target. What a sad thing for a bunch of 23 year olds to do.

I'm only playing the 14 day demo. Have gone the Human Mage route this time with a profession in Tailoring and Enchantment. Secondary fisherman.

Having fun. It's a game that just gets me every time I play it. I don't know of another game that allows me to immerse myself into as greatly as wow does

I played WoW some two or three years ago.

During 4 months of my life only thing I did was to wake up, buy tobacco and pre-made food and play all day until time to go to bed again.

After 4 months, before canceling my account, my main character had a logged-on time equivalent to an average of 10 hours per day for the duration of those 4 months. This doesn't account for the time I was playing with alternative characters, or countless hours browsing strategy forums or WoWwiki.

This to say that I totally lost control of myself during those months. I've never been addicted to any game before and after. No game that can be played such a massive amount of hours and not become tedious.

Even nowadays, after a few years, I still get sad when I see/read new stuff about the game and am unable to play it. But I consider myself sort of an ex-drug-addict and I know I can never have a taste at it again, or university will suffer again.

I'm so bad at multiplayer. I just participated in a 10 minute hardcore gang shootout and finished with one kill and about 20 deaths.

fecking love this game... great story...
I was really wondering whether I was supposed to have a chance towards the end, when I came out of the barn.
I've a shitload left to do, and I feel that it'd be cheating if I looked up exactly what :S

I agree with people in here though... one of the best games I've played... You care what happens, and for the story... and it's great fun just raging around... far more so than in GTA, weirdly enough... despite the lack of helicopters and rocket launchers.

Off to go for a train roof top safari now... never had that idea before I checked this thread :D

I'm doing well on the treasure hunter challenges now, only a few more to get I think

Finished the treasure hunters, the ones towards the end were the easiest

If youre on xbox and want the $10,000 achievement, you dont have to have all the money, just earn it, you can still spend it, I just unlocked it after selling all the treasures which got me up to 5,000, but I'd spent over 5,000 so it unlocked :)

This is true. They were all famous in-game landmarks so it was pretty easy really. The hardest one was the second one - I must have fallen off that fecking mountain 20 times. And when you're at the bottom, don't call your horse, cos it jumps off the cliff...

I had got my first horse to maximum loyalty/stamina etc and then I accidentaly shot it. I pressed the wrong button and blew the poor bastard away.

I felt guilty as I skinned him.

Horses have loyalty and stamina? I usually just the kill the fecker when i arrive so i get a new one.

I made almost 4k in 10 minutes surviving wave after wave of wolf attacks. Another 10 minutes of skinning them, a ride the the shop, and selling 40odd of every bit of wolf made me some money. Good times. Bought all the horses with it.

Aye, when it reaches full loyalty it tells you and the horse then gets a boost in stamina. Only one of my horses has lasted that long
