Red Dead Redemption

Seriously, though, I have yet to try Red Dead online. I keep moving on to other games, while intending to go back and replay some of the better ones.

It was my first crack today, there are a couple of different modes so I might have more success with some of the other ones.

I don't really get how to have a duel. I've had 2 and won them both but i don't really know what i did to win. I think it was more by good luck rather than good judgement or skill.

Basically when the duel starts, you have 2 meters at the bottom right of the screen. The objective is to fill your meter up faster than your opponent fills his, or at least fill it up higher than him.

So how do you fill your meter up, you ask? When you hover your aim over your opponent, as soon the market turns white, set your marker on him. If the marker is red, and you set the mark on him, you won't fill your meter up much. You get greater meter fills by setting head shot markers(when the marker is white). Just keep setting as much markers(when white) on the guy to fill up your meter.

Red Undead Redemption DLC Coming

If you thought the free “Outlaws To The End” Co-Op Mission Pack was all the Red Dead Redemption DLC you could handle, you’d better strap yourself in. Rockstar Games sent word yesterday that additional DLC for Red Dead Redemption is indeed on its way, and will begin rolling onto PSN and XBOX Live Marketplace as soon as August.

Dan Houser, Rockstar Games’ founder had this to say about the DLC:

We want to continue to provide Red Dead Redemption’s fans with a steady supply of innovative new content. Our goal is to continue to pack as much entertaining gameplay and as many surprises as we can into the massive world of Red Dead Redemption over the coming months.

Currently, we know of four new DLC packs coming our way, starting with the “Legends and Killers” Pack at the beginning of August 2010, and culminating with the Red Dead Redemption “Undead Nightmare” Pack later this fall – my guess is Halloween.

Here is a rundown of all the upcoming DLC you can look forward to over the coming months:

“Legends and Killers” Pack
New active map locations, characters and more:

Release date: beginning of August 2010;
9 new multiplayer map locations — more than doubling the amount of territories in the multiplayer competitive modes;
8 new multiplayer characters — play as characters from Red Dead Revolver;
Introducing a new projectile weapon: the Tomahawk, with corresponding challenges for single-player and multiplayer gameplay;
New achievements and trophies;
Pricing: $9.99 (PlayStation Network), 800 Microsoft Points (Xbox LIVE).
“Liars and Cheats” Pack
New competitive modes, multiplayer mini-games in Free Roam, and more:

Release date: TBC;
Attack and Defend multiplayer competitive mode and challenges;
New multiplayer horse races, complete with mounted combat;
Play as the heroes and villains of Red Dead Redemption, as well as 8 additional multiplayer characters;
Multiplayer versions of Liars Dice and Poker from the single-player game;
Introducing a new weapon: the Explosive Rifle, with associated challenges available in single-player and multiplayer gameplay;
New achievements and trophies;
Pricing: $9.99 (PlayStation Network), 800 Microsoft Points (Xbox LIVE).
“Free Roam” Pack
Delve deeper into the world of Red Dead Redemption with new modes, challenges and gang hideouts to discover:

Release date: TBC;
Additional Free Roam challenges;
New action areas and defensive placements;
Posse scoring and leaderboards;
New anti-griefing measures in Free Roam;
Pricing: TBC.

“Undead Nightmare” Pack
Ghost towns and cemeteries come alive in a West gone horribly wrong:

Release date: TBC;
Brand new single-player adventure, challenges and quests;
8 new multiplayer zombie characters;
Additional animals unleashed in the world;
New dynamic events and more;
Pricing: $9.99 (PlayStation Network), 800 Microsoft Points (Xbox LIVE).
The take-home news here is that, over the course of the DLC releases, Rockstar will be further populating the game-world, both in single-player and multiplayer modes; and they are actively bringing a sense of focus and order to the multiplayer component – something that has been sorely lacking thus far.

I’m sure they will all be fine DLC packs, but frankly I personally only have eyes for the “Undead Nightmare” Pack. The prospect of fighting through a zombie apocalypse set in the Old West is the stuff of my dreams: like Dead Rising, but without the drink-mixing and roof top soccer matches.

What say you, Ranters? Does this DLC hit the spot, or are you cowboyed-out already?

I loved every bit of it.

Really? I got very bored because i'd seen it all before.

Go to X to get a job, go to location of job, shoot row after row of baddies, job done.

Pretty much every job is that.

fecks sake.

I hate when games put in "zombie" fecking shit.

It's perfect the way it is, don't ruin it by putting undead shit.

It cheapens the feel of the game for me.

Become a cowboy, epic western.. And then kill some zombies. Ergh.

Source: Hollywood news site Showbizspy.

What we heard: In November 2009 Brad Pitt's production companies Reliance Big Entertainment and Plan B Entertainment bought the rights to the forthcoming Dark Void film, but that may not be the only movie project tied to the storied actor.

Sources told the Hollywood news outlet Showbizspy that Brad Pitt is the "hot favorite" to star in an upcoming film based on the events of Rockstar Games' critically lauded and commercially successful Western, Red Dead Redemption. The sources say the Fight Club and Meet Joe Black star will play the game's troubled protagonist, John Marston.

See the resemblance?

“This is an exciting project with a great character at the center of it,” a source told the Web site. “The idea is to make this in the style of an epic Western movie but with a few modern touches. Brad is perfect for the role and he is being given first refusal.”

Unfortunately, the report did not include the names of possible supporting cast members, a projected release date for the film, or any other details on the project.

The official story: A Rockstar Games representative told GameSpot, "We do not comment on rumor or speculation."

Bogus or not bogus?: Today's rumor is the first mention of a Red Dead Redemption film. While fans may be excited about the prospect of a film based on the game, if the project is real, it's likely only in the very early planning stages.

Further, Pitt is one of Hollywood's biggest stars, and he is likely offered "first refusal"--the ability to be the first actor to say no to a project--frequently. If the project is indeed real, Pitt may pass on the project, leaving the Marston role open to another actor.

That would actually be pretty interesting if true. The game already plays out like a film and even has a twist ending that works well on the screen but probably not so much in a game (as evident by the bitching on here just after people finished it).

I loved the ending. One of the rare game endings that actually emotionally affected me.

Me too, thought it was very fitting and really the only way to end it.

I didn't expect it one bit, that's what made it so amazing. I just thought at first the story would peter out as a happily ever after one, and later, when you get to take aim at the cops, thought I'd take them all out. And then suddenly Marston is being shot at a dozen times and is lying dead on the floor.

What was really smart was that you died in-game. That made the impact even bigger. Clever.

Sadly i'd had the ending spoiled for me (i'd stick that in spoilers btw just in case) so i knew what was going to happen i just didn't know how.

It really was a bloody good game, got to hand it to Rockstar.

Would a film follow the plot of the game though? Most films just take the character and then create their own plot. RDR is one of the few games which has a strong enough plot to be a film though.

Red Dead Redemption's Undead Nightmare Comes To Life

And a comment from that article

I wrote this when I first played the game, but it bears repeating:

"So I haven't been in the West Elizabeth area for terribly long. Prior to tonight, my only encounter with bears in-game was when one got shot and killed along side me by some random guy as I was walking along the road. My fear of these bears started when I first discovered the log cabin by Aurora Basin. I went inside the cabin, and the second I turned back around I saw through the foggy, dirty windows, two dark shapes sniffing about outside. Luckily I was safe, and I killed my first bear from inside that cabin. At the time I did not know where the other one went.

Tonight I decided to eradicate this irrational fear of pixelated bears. I purchased my Buffalo Rifle, the single most powerful rifle in the game, and headed out towards the Tall Trees with the sole intent of hunting me some bears. I was wearing a tuxedo.

I make it to the edge of the Tall Trees, ready to enter the forest in the dead of night when out of nowhere I hear the distinct sound of a bears footsteps. I manage to turn around before not one, but two bears ambush me from the shadows. I nearly have a heart attack and only get one shot off before the end. Remember when I said I didn't know where the other bear went at Aurora Basin? I now know that the surviving bear went to the dark wretched corners of the forest to let all of bear-kind know my misdeed. Those two bears were waiting for me at the edge of that forest. They knew I was coming to kill them. I woke up back at Blackwater, slowly recovering from the attack. feck the Buffalo Rifle. I take out my Evans Repeater. While substantially less powerful than the buffalo rifle, the Evans can hold up to 22 bullets in a single round, whereas the Buffalo can only hold one. Stocked up with chewing tobacco and moonshine, I head back towards the Tall Trees. This time I make camp just outside the forest and save my game.

Eventually I find a nice, large clearing just southwest of Nekoti Rock. I dismount my horse, throw some bait around, and hide in some nearby bushes. After about a minute, I hear the distant sound of coyotes howling. Nothing to worry about. After a while, nothing continues to happen. I carefully meander towards the bait, and after being disappointed, mount my horse and proceed to get attacked by a fecking bear. He kills my horse and I unload twenty-two bullets in between his eyes. Thankfully I have a deed to my horse so getting another one is easy. Two more bears come out to attack. I dispatch them easily. I get momentarily distracted by some guy complaining that his wife is about to be hung for the fiftieth time, so I have to go save her. I manage to snag another bear on my way back. I go back to where my first horse had died, and am attacked by three more bears. I kill them, but barely (bearly) survive. I spend the next fifteen or so minutes killing and skinning bears. Final count: 20. Night has fallen. I am running low on ammo and moonshine, so I save the game and head towards Manzanita Post. The bears have other plans. I get ambushed again by three more, one of whom kills my horse. As I'm waiting for my new horse to find me, I hear those haunting footsteps. I look around me. Nothing. They're toying with me now. I can hear him roaring loudly behind me but no matter where I look there is nothing but trees and snow and shadows. The bear is taunting me. My horse arrives, and I hoof it towards Manzanita. I'm almost there when I see a bear running alongside the road, being chased and shot at by a sheriff. Hesitant to help him out, I watch. The sheriff is closing in on the bear, firing away with his pistol when suddenly he is flanked by another bear, which proceeds to maul both the sheriff and his horse. The bears. Just set. A motherfecking. Trap. These are no bears. They're velociraptors. The two bears slowly turn around and eye me. I turn around to a third bear lunging at me. I'm startled enough for my finger to twitch rapidly and unload my rifle into his skull. My horse is not so lucky. I recover from my fall just in time to kill off the other two bears. I don't even want to wait for another horse. I sprint down the road, only to run right into one, final bear. I did not make it to Manzanita.

feck bears."

I have failed to see the hype around this, i've owned it for about 2 months now and have hardly touched it. I've got to Mexico and done quite a few missions there but I have just failed to get hooked like I have been with GTA.

And something that really annoys me is the horses, I read so many reviews on how they got controlling the things "perfect" well please lend me your version because for me they are ridiculous to move.

TFP - you need to come join us in World of Warcraft. The horses are very easy to master !

Agree with all but the horses. I find them pretty easy to control.

Well it's not hard to control as such but theres 2 things that feck me sideways:

1 - if you run past a bit of land that has a rock by it, you go to avoid it but get struck by an invisible wall and the horse then decides to run up against it, same thing happens with railings on bridges.

2 - Turning the thing around, your facing a wall or something so nudge the stick left/right and then forward, instead of the horse going where you want it will just keep walking in a circle untill you move the stick back to the middle and then push forwards again.

I dunno, maybe it's just me being a spastic.

I've been playing this lately, I've had it for the past three months but hadn't played it much until now mainly because I had other games to focus on.

It's very, very good so far. I've only done a few missions and am on 16% but I already like the story, and the world is just immense - possibly bigger than GTA IV and graphics are way better too. Really enjoying it and it looks like it's going to give me at least 20 hours of gameplay which is refreshing after Heavy Rain and Mafia 2 which were both way too short.

Incredible...

I usually find it hard to bother to complete things, especially if the actual plot is done and all that's left is accomplishments for your scrapbook, but I persevered with this game. I love it to bits, and seeing as I barely played it after the WC, and I am now getting myself a PS3 slim (I've usually only had the chance to play PS3 whenever I've been at home and mooching off of little brother's consoles) and will start all over again =)

Maybe I'll be a bit less righteous this time :)
