Rio Ferdinand

Rio via twitter: Wow not feeling great..Concussion after a clash of heads I'm told..as I don't even remember the game! Gonna chill,Goodnight world! 3-0 win!

It was only a few minutes. Sometimes they can answer the must know questions and still have a concussion. He wasn't in much danger and he knew what he was doing on the pitch.

I remember playing once and one guy in my team got a concussion. He knew what day it was, he knew his name and could count the fingers. It happened about mid-to-late in first half. During half time he asked what team we were playing. The manager took him off.

Concussion? Hope it doesnt mean he has to take a break for a few weeks

Rio Ferdinand is a doubt for Manchester United’s clash with Arsenal on Sunday after suffering concussion at the weekend.
The United defender must pass a series of rigorous cognitive tests by the club’s medical department this week to be available for the match at the Emirates.
Ferdinand claimed on Twitter that he ‘could not remember’ what happened during United’s 3-0 victory over Bolton at Old Trafford on Saturday.
He also admitted he had suffered concussion, which under previous FA rules meant he would automatically miss the next 10 days.
But the FA have relaxed the guidelines and Ferdinand, 33, will now be put through a thorough medical examination.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is counting on one of his most experienced defenders for the title run-in after losing captain Nemanja Vidic with a long-term knee injury.

I'm pretty sure SAF has said that players who have a concussion will be rested for two weeks as a precaution, that would be another huge loss.

That's Rio and Welbeck injured in the last week, we should be due one more in training at our rate! Hopefully Welbeck will be fine from that slight knock against Bolton, but I hope we don't risk Rio if he did have a concussion, that's serious stuff.

Ah, sorry didn't realize it had been posted. But still, even if he feels fine he really shouldn't play for two weeks. Our player's brains are more important than 2 games.

Very worrying indeed. With Rio, you know that there's always a good chance that these rumours can be true.

:nervous:

It will be very difficult for us to win the League with Vidic out for the season and Rio's back (presumably) not co-operating. Very difficult.

Looked terrible today. Sad to watch him struggle.

Wasnt about luck. he should have been in front of luiz to start with.

Anyone else feel a bit nervous watching him play this last while? He seemed to really struggle with the pace of the game today.

Honestly speaking I've felt that Ferdinand is better for his experience in the squad than for anything else for sometime and I truly think had Vida not done his knee Rio would be a squad player rotating in when the likes of Smalling and Jones weren't available/ready for the occasion.

I keep putting my faith in the fact that earlier in the season he came back from injury and was shaky for the first few games, but then (starting in the game immediately after Vida's injury if I remember correctly) he was truly brilliant again up until his next injury.

If he can stay fit for a while, hopefully that will happen again and he'll soon be back to something approaching his best.

Smalling and Evans would be first choice if Smalling was capable of going through 3-4 weeks without picking up some knock or the other.

Yep, he looks like he is on the ropes alright. I considered at the start of this season, that it may be his last with the club. If it isnt I do not see him being an automatic starter if everyone is fit.

He'll be fine, difficult for him to get into a rhythm at the moment, we haven't been able to manage his games as we'd like.

Well this is the thing. IF he can stay fit long enough to get match fitness, then he still has something to offer. However the older he gets it is going to take longer and longer to reach the standard he needs to be at to be an asset.

I have to agree with Mikeupnorth, he looks almost done to me. Sad to say but with his injury record i just cannot see him being fit enough for long enough to get back to anywhere near his best. Anything less than that now is not going to be good enough for a team with aspirations of winning the top trophies.

his back has robbed him of his legs. he's done as far as being a starter for united next year. if he is the clubs in trouble.

Thing that is really surprising me is that Rio is hoofing the ball forwards a lot these days. Not sure if its a deliberate instruction from Fergie or just Rio's lack of self confidence. But Evans looks so much more confident on the ball than Rio.

His ability to help build up from the back used to be his greatest asset.
