Rio Ferdinand

Just had a scouser on fb asking why isnt rio a disgrace to the club? I obviously responded in regard to him not shaking Suarez's hand. Then he comes out with how he wasn't talking about that but the fact he's a druggie!

What?! :lol::wenger:
Fun fact: Rio offered to have a follicle test after he missed the initial one.

How he managed to play after that full body face plant blows me away.

RT @antonjayco: @rioferdy5 hey Rio..........you're a has been »» haha you obviously never saw the game yesterday pal....pockets bulging!

Sensational today, he really was, his positioning was always on point.

Another solid performance from him today. He's been leading the line at the back recently and is looking a lot better than he did in the earlier stages of the season.

Write him off at your peril.Him and Evans were immense today.

He was a fecking colossus. Almost Vidic like in the way he repelled everything coming his way.

Still the best English centre-back there is for my money.

Yep. Didn't do a thing wrong. Brilliant.

Actually he did. Two dangerous misplaced passes early in the game in defense and he blocked DDG for the goal. Should have been more to the right or left. The rule for a defender in this situations is to show one corner and block the other, not the keeper. Nothing else you can do if you're standing off.

One of our best players today. Young scored out of nothing and made an assist when we weren't in the game. He also scored from a very difficult position. Directly responsible for all our goals today so I have as our MoM.

Wouldn't go as far to say that he did nothing wrong at all, however it was certainly a very good performance from him nevertheless.

Is it feck. The plan is to try and block the shot first and foremost

I'd written Rio off after his injuries but again he has come back to form. It's incredible. At his age with that back of his it's immense that he managed to be so immense.

Yes. It it because otherwise the goalkeeper barely stands a chance. It's too hard to block a shot like that. Rio was more scared of Defoe going past him than shooting. Defoe pretty much only needed to hit the target.

If the keepers view is blocked its up to him to adjust his postion. A small sidestep either side would do that. The defenders job is to try and block the shot coming on goal, not stand to the side and leave him a corner to aim for.

Neville's blamed Rio for the goal, says she shouldn't have turned his back on the shot and further more stand in the keeper's sight.

And leave one corner completely open? Would have been an easier shot for Defoe. Good goal from Defoe, was quicker to react to the situation than Rio.

He's been pretty great alongside Evans recently. Started off the season a bit shakey but he's still a highly valuable player to us. I think a lot of people write off older players that have a dip in form too quickly.

MOTM

No more needs to be said, but I will anyway. He was brilliant today, thought Evans was good as well, but Ferdinand was outstanding. Loved his reaction to Adebayor as well, suspect we'll be seeing that in the gif thread shortly

I thought he put in an outstanding performance. He was calm under immense pressure. He doesnt have the pace anymore but reads the game so well.

He looks clunky when he runs and has lost alot of pace, he used to glide over the pitch. He's still a great defender though.
