What's the general opinion on this guy?

I get the impression that he seems to very highly-rated (particularly by Arse fans) but can't help feeling he's a bit over-hyped.

His scoring record is nothing special, he's injury-prone and his discipline isn't great. I guess Arsenal fans might say that sounds a bit like Wayne Rooney but at 25 RVP seems to have achieved a lot less than our Wayne.

Am I being harsh?

He's overrated (by the Arsenal fans) IMHO.

Good player. Nothing more, nothing less.

Fantastic player when he's not injured up, high on something, depressed.

Good enough to win the scoring title but will never do it unfortunately.

Well, I always have him in my fantasy team. When he's fit and playing, he scores shit loads of points in that. And if that's the case, it means he's scoring, and involved in goals

Injuries is cocking up his career up to now though. I think he'd be one of the very top players in the division if he'd had 2 fit healthy seasons behind him

Very good player. Against Spurs he had two assists, a very good goal and he played a brilliant 30 yard through ball for Nasri which Adebayor finished off.

Creative, a good dribbler, great close control, a good-very good finisher, a threat from set pieces and he has a brilliant shot on him.

Injured far too much now though.

Fantastic player but has not had now, for two seasons I'd say, a run where he was free of injury for more than four games

I think if Robin had a a half a season of injury free, ever present football he'd be amongst the top five strikers in world football. Its arguable that had he been fit for most of last season we'd have got even closer to the title

I have a feeling in my bones that his body will, in the end, fail him

"Top 5 strikers in the world" is stretching it a little. But yes he's a very good striker, but not been the same since he had those two serious injuries a couple of seasons ago. Still flashes of brilliance from him, but you're right in that he's not had the run of games that would do him a world of good.

Very good player. Great shooting technique, decent finisher, but very injury prone.

He had a poor start to the season, but still scored goals. He only started to look like his old self in the Spurs game and Wenger dropped him for some reason.

Dropped him? I think he's just keeping his injuries managed, he said recently that Van Persie can't play 3 games in a week or two games in 4 days which is why he didn't play in the last two weekend games I think.

Think he's a high class talent. I enjoy watching him play the game, a lethal striker when he's on form. Kind of a shame about his injuries.

'top five strikers in world football'

Hehe.

Vastly overrated, neat footballer, fantastic technique, no pace, no strength, one footed, injuries, questionable temperament, runs like a queer duck, injuries, rapist, plays for Arsenal, injuries and his hair is twat-like.

Very good player who has massive potential ability. I would doubt that he has the mental ability to reach his potential. A little bit injury prone also.

He has potential to be one of the best strikers in Europe but unfortunately for him, he's been injured a lot. The pass he did for Nasri in the match against Spurs reflects on the quality he really has.

i rate him very highly. the one player arsenal have got who can change a game in an instant. wish he wasnt so damn injury-prone though....

Ive watched a lot of arsenal matches, on tv i'm not a millionaire, with my old man and can safely say that his finishing, at times, is very wayward. I can't tell you the amount of times my dad has been pissed off at the sight of Van Persie scoop one up and over the bar. When he's good, he's very good. When he's slightly off form nearly everything he hits goes over.

When he is on form and firing he's brilliant. Thought he was going to become a class player but injuries have held him back big time recently. Not sure what will happen to him now.

A bit like Robben?

RVP is a very talented striker, but too injury prone to put his considerable ability to good use or develop any kind of consistency.

He also has a cnut attitude but that's quite common among modern footballers.

Sounds like Rooney.

Most 'second strikers' or whatever are like that.

No you're not being harsh, he's good but nothing really special.

Seconded

I rate him as a very good player, but his injury record is Sahaesque

Is it true a lot of his time out was down to a bit of a fondness for the odd rolled up 20 pound note??

Robben is better than Van Persie

Excellent summary there.

Shame about his injuries which have hampered his career.
