Personally I've no idea what to think anymore. If this is true and he's actually making a good-faith effort to negotiate on behalf of Ukraine to the point where he's being fecking poisoned that's pretty remarkable.

Reportedly this was a couple weeks ago and the delegation have recovered. Probably a big reason why Zelensky pushed Biden to not sanction Abramovich.

At the very least it seems that his involvement in peace talks wasn't bluster? And that the relationship between him and Putin can't be that close if the latter was willing to poison him.

Maybe he screwed up and drank the wrong wine glass? Or maybe some hardliners in the security services tried to undermine the talks by poisoning some of the food.

We definitely don't know enough to conclude that Putin tried to poison Roman or even that Roman was necessarily unaware of what was happening.

Key word is "was". Also, the notion that Abramovich was directed to buy Chelsea at Putin's behest was literally proved in a court of law to be libelous.

And you genuinely think Moscow are trying to plant a false flag just to exonerate Roman by poisoning the Ukraine peace negotiators? And that's somehow more likely than the story that Roman has been involved in peace talks because he's half Ukrainian?

I can understand what you're saying but the odds of that seem remote compared to Occam's Razor - Putin and Abramovich aren't close anymore to the extent that Putin is willing to off Abramovich to get what he wants. Lest we forget there were rumours that Abramovich purchased Chelsea in the first place to raise his profile and make himself more difficult to assassinate.

Glad he is okay. Chelsea chapter with Roman was over. He won't put his foot in uk after this saga anyway.

May be he will live in usa hereafter where he will be respected and his investment will be safe too.

If Putin and Roman aren't close anymore, why would he agree to have Roman be a part of the peace talks? I'm not saying you're wrong. But I just don't think we have enough information to draw any kind of firm conclusion about what happened at this point.

Btw, have you seen any reporting about where Roman is actually living now? Is he back in Russia or is he lying low in Portugal or something like that?

Because he's a representative of Ukraine. He's been working on their behalf, as per Zelensky - this is why the US didn't sanction Roman; Zelensky petitioned Biden on Roman's behalf.

No clue where Roman is - as per the info released today, he's been going back and forth between Moscow and Kyiv with the peace talks. I'd be shocked if he's living in Russia at this point having been poisoned by them.

3 people received minor symptoms of alleged poisoning.

So minor there was no harm done.

Now, we know if putin wanted somone dead or in a bad state, it would be done easily.

It's funny how it was Roman involved, clearly propaganda move to keep him in good face with the west.

It's all a big lie and I don't believe any of it.

Just like Chelsea fans deny Russia has done anything wrong, or Chelsea FC, who publically still have not condemned the actions of mass murder.

Putin apparently needs Roman so much that he's willing to poison him and other peace negotiators just to have Roman regain the trust of the West for...what purpose exactly? The first bolded part is simply not correct. Roman is acting as an intermediary so to characterize that as his being a representative of the Ukraine is quite a stretch. Zelensky asked Biden to delay sanctions on Roman as they could interfere with his role as a negotiator, he has not said that Roman is one of the good guys and please leave him alone which is what some people seem to believe. So far Roman has managed to get some good PR from this but in the words of Zelensky has not actually been of much real use.

The second bolded part is quite clearly conjecture. You don't know for a fact he was poisoned and even if he was you don't know who it was that was behind it or even if he was the primary target. The Palestinians have good reasons to poison him just as one example so to state Russia posioned him as a fact is just blatantly not true.

The point is that whilst he's not purely advocating for Ukraine, they also have a say in who is involved in the talks and it's clear that they are the ones who engaged with Abramovich, not Putin. It's a bit odd to blame peace talks stalling on Abramovich - do you think he's sabotaging them for some reason?

Also you think the Palestinians managed to poison Abramovich and also 3 other Ukrainian peace negotiators...? I'm not saying that Abramovich was the specific target but it's beyond obvious that he's disposable to Putin now, so the narrative that they are best mates is nonsense. Do you really think it's more likely that the Palestinians poisoned him as opposed to the Russians, when Russia is in an active conflict and has an extensive history of poisonings?

Not having a go at you specifically but the extent to which people are coming up with complicated scenarios to cast doubt on Abramovich's intentions is getting a bit ridiculous. I'll readily agree that Chelsea fans were being absolutely out of pocket earlier on in this thread, but the pendulum is swinging a bit. There is a lot of conjecture being flung around in defense of established narratives despite new evidence.

Is he Putin's best mate? Maybe not but he would not be involved in this process if he did not have access and at the least some semblance of influence with Putin otherwise you might as well use you or me as the go between. His whole value at this point is based upon the assumption that he does have a relationship with Putin and that is not an antagonistic relationship at this point.

Regarding his intentions. Zelensky made it clear when he discussed meeting with Roman that he is one of a number of the Oligarchs who have reached out during this process and their primary intention is to avoid or mitigate sanctions. I have seen no evidence that would suggest he is motivated by anything other than his own self interest and the totality of his actions throughout his life make it clear that he is a very bad man indeed even if circumstances at this moment might lead to him doing a good thing.

I don't have an axe to grind with Chelsea, hope you get a new owner soon and we can get back to football. I do disagree with the desire of some Chelsea supporters, and I am not saying you are on of them, to paint Roman as some innocent martyr in all of this. The man still has billions which he most recently has been using to fund settler groups in Israel commit acts of ethnic cleansing against Palestine. Not a nice man.

He could quite easily have been caught up in trying to kill Zelensky and it’s simply gone wrong? Or could be being used unwittingly?
 
At least he was not lied about try to arrange peace talks. That's one good slap for many who think he lied for PR stunt :lol: .
