Ronaldo - Contract Negotiations Have Stalled

what about the likes of miller and klebs earning more than him then. theyve also been here for a few seasons, yet they earn more than him. thats ridicolous.
Youre really nervous now, aint ya?

Ronaldo has only been here 2 season and in all honesty only played well for about half that time
err i thought he played the most games last season?

I knew this would happen, pay Phil Neville a reported £50k/week and piss about with Ronaldo's contract...... I am sick of the club handing out contracts and making decisions which come down to nostalgia and not actual talent.

I said only played well (as in actually performed)

Okay i made a mistake in my earlier post. He's not worth £100K per week.

We should offer him something like £60k per week for 4 years and then review it after 2 years to see how he has progressed. He's only 19, yes he's got bags of talent but he has to be consistant to justify the higher wage bracket.

What's Phil Neville's wages got to do with the negotiations between United and Ronaldo?

Looking Busy said:
It's the comparison thing. Well he's on £x per week and i'm better than him so i want £x+1 per week.
That kind of thing

So basically, what you are saying is that Ronaldo has been asking every player in the squad what they are on, and then decided how much he wants based on that...?

Phil is using £50k/week of the overall budget which could have been used to ensure Ronaldo's future at the club.

So you reckon we are stalling at Ronaldo's wage demands due to what Phil Neville is paid...?

So if we were to sell Phil Neville this week, we will pay Ronaldo what he wants?

No.... what I am saying is we have an overall first team salary budget and £50k/week of this is used on Phil Neville. The only possible reason we could be delaying on signing up the most promising youngster at the club (with the possible excpetion of Rooney) must be because the first team salary budget is stretched.

I also understand that the FA strongly advice that the total salary bill of a club should not be anymore than x% of turnover.

My current understanding of the situation is that Ronaldo is currently one the lowest earners in the first team (£15k/week) and is looking to be paid what Rooney is on (guess £50k/week).

My assumption is that we have budget for first team players, squad/rotation players, reserve players etc. Phil clearly fits into the category of a rotation player but to be paid £50k/week I would guess at the time of signing he was seen as a first team player (If I recall he was at the time).

It's a tactic used in negiation. Agents will look at what others in the squad earn and then place their price to the club. If you were going to ask for a pay rise and you knew that a colleague earnt more than you but you have more experience/ responsibility you would naturally ask for more than him.

Do you really have to be so patronising. It's annoying and quite frankly childish.

You're thinking too much...

In any such system at any organisation, said system is more flexible than what you are suggesting here.

But, Phil Neville is an easy target for people like.

The constant picking on Phil Neville is even more annoying.

Fine then use Wayne Rooney, John O'Shea, Liam Miller, Kleberson as a comparison. All of whom earn more than Ronaldo does at present.

The point still remains valid.

Hence my suggestion of £60k a week for 4 years and then review after to years to see the progression made

Here here. A more loyal, willing and comited red you couldn't find.
Apart from maybe his brother, of course...

Yes let's pay him £50k/week for being so loyal and Ronaldo £15k/week for being so talented.

Of course they all earn more money than Ronaldo - they didn't sign their current contracts when they were 17!

What if the club has already offered him £60k+??? Or are you actually privy to the finer details in the contract offers?

You really are a nob, aren't you?

For a start, how do you know Phil Neville is on £50k a week? The contracts signed over the last couple of years have been heavily performance based, based on success and on how much you play.

And secondly, Phil Neville signed his current contract as a 26-27 year old, and was more or less a first team regular. Ronaldo signed his current contract as a 17 year old youth player.

And lastly, of course players should be rewarded for being loyal, especially in today's climate, when players change clubs as soon as they are not happy with their role in the team, how the team is doing etc.

Yeah, because there's a lot of people in this thread saying that we shouldn't raise Ronaldo's pay considerably, aren't there.
It's the most obvious thing on the planet that he deserves and will be offered a substantial increase on £15k. Doesn't mean you need to go round slating Neville to make the point.

Fair enough.

The £60k offer was in response people who were saying he was worth £100k per week.

You really are a nob, aren't you? No just like to speak my mind and I am not interested how many more posts you have made then I.

For a start, how do you know Phil Neville is on £50k a week? I don't but when it was signed that was the speculation and has been readilly accepted in our previous posts.

The contracts signed over the last couple of years have been heavily performance based, based on success and on how much you play. I should hope so!

And secondly, Phil Neville signed his current contract as a 26-27 year old, and was more or less a first team regular. Ronaldo signed his current contract as a 17 year old youth player. I think he was 28 and signed a 5 year contract, so if speculation is correct he will be earning £50k/week when he is 33.

And lastly, of course players should be rewarded for being loyal, especially in today's climate, when players change clubs as soon as they are not happy with their role in the team, how the team is doing etc.
Agreed but surely the reward should only be just above the players current market value. (Who else would pay Phil Neville even £20k/week?)

I don't wish to have a go at Phil for what he has got out of the club but it frustrates the hell out of me when the club start stumbling on renewing, somebody like Ronaldo's contract.

rooney and ronaldo deserve as much. The other three shouldnt even be close. Miller and kleberson hardly ever get a game.
