is not finished yet according to Van Gaal.

But maybe Falcao and Van Persie are, in the summer, possibly.... or at least that's what I think he might be insinuating in his broken English.

When I am not lining up with Falcao, you are asking, 'Where is Falcao?' and when I don't line up Van Persie you are asking, 'Where is van Persie?'” Van Gaal said. “You always put the question negative, but I am used to that, it is not a problem, I am used to that.

Are Falcao and Van Persie doing enough? It is always dependable on what we decided and, until this moment, we have not decided that yet.

It is always a question to the future, so you will have to wait and see.

I think he's turning the heat up on them though and rightly so. The best part of £500k a week needs to start acting like it.

Good. It'll cost him his job if it is.

Just read that Ro0ney hasn't had a shot on target in 2015. Ignoring him being in midfield, that is pretty piss poor from him. When you think of Adnan, Di Maria, Mata, Fellani, Blind and Carrick have all had a number of shots, you have to ask why he is reluctant to have a go.

Rooney up front? Lets add in the pace of Wilson and combine it with a back 5.

Falcao-Rooney-Wilson-RvP

<-----------------------Blind-------------------->

Shaw-Rojo-Evans-Smalling-Rafael
DDG
With that many strikers and that many defenders we're bound to score loads of goals and have a rock solid defence. Because logic.

This is really good news, he seems to flag up these kinds of changes in advance, as he did when he made comments about not always playing 3 at the back before we went to a back 4 shortly after. I reckon we'll see Rooney up front very soon, maybe tonight.

Even better:
Fellaini
Rooney Falcao Wilson RVP

Blind
Shaw Rojo Smalling Rafael
DDG
Long balls to the afro, who knocks it down to the onrushing strikers. What could go wrong?

I look at this formation and the first thing I think is, LVG wouldnt do this, he doesnt fancy Rafael at right back.

Nothing else about it looks strange.

you almost forgot how awful he played up front at the start of the season. He was terrible there. I understand that we are disappointed seeing him in midfield but he needs to play as CAM where he had his best games in this system or if ever used as striker again it must be with someone pacy like Wilson. Considering our absolutely terrible form of strikers we should give it a go. This is my lineup against Burnley: http://www.footyformation.com/team/view/slug/kVh

I can't wait until Rooney gets played as a no. 9 and he will inevitably be shit, like he was every time he's played there this season. Makes me laugh when I see half of the Caf thinking he should play at no. 9 because he was fantastic there 5 years ago.

Nothing makes a player better here than missing a few games or playing out of position. Every match a player doesn't play, he seems to get better and better in the eyes of some fans.

Too busy chipping it wide to Valencia.

There's no guarantee that rooney will be good as a centre forward again, but at the same time, we do need to do something about our striker situation. RVP and Falcao aren't giving us enough as strikers (although rvp has to an extent) and rooney isn't giving us rnough as a midifelder.

I wouldn't expect Rooney as a striker tonight, I think LvG may be talking next season once he gets the side where he wants it.

This. He played no. 9 for England in the summer... and was shit.

In fairness, the tactics and personnel behind him haven't been great at all. Rooney in a proper set up as a 9 would be amazing.

He is overrated as a striker due to nostalgia. I seriously doubt he would perform better than rvp. Rooney has lost much of his physical edge. He is slower than he was; he lacks the strength to shield the ball from defenders, and his first touch and short passing are too poor these days.

It was wrong to make him captain if that meant he is now undroppable.

He played off the left against Italy, which he scored. In the other game he played as a 10 with Sturridge as striker, and the 3rd game he didn't play I believe. Either way sure he wasn't amazing but then nobody was!

Nah, he was supposed to but at the critical moment Hodgson pushed him wide to make room for fecking Sterling and Sturridge. Good shout, Roy.

He wasn't great but he was better than most of his teammates. It certainly wasn't a repeat of 2010 when he was literally England's worst player and actually dragged down the performance of the whole team.

When he is left out of the squad entirely and the team drop points, that is always going to be a likely outcome Louis.

Rooney played some great stuff in a free moving England frontline in the last couple of internationals.

I'm trying to think, have there been any times we've played Rooney as the sole striker with Mata behind? Maybe under Moyes?

Would love to see us try that with di Maria, Januzaj, Herrera, and Blind in the midfield. Even if it doesn't work, we can also bring Fellaini on!

Drop one of Falcao or Van Persie and play Rooney as a number 10 behind , got to be worth a go .

I would have Rooney upfront with Wilson with the way Falcao and Persie's form has been

In general I think he's best as a #10, but would love to see him tonight as a real striker. He will be very eager to impress and score. And Burnley at home is an ideal match.

I don't remember Moyes even trying that, not even when RVP was injured against Olympiacos.

Considering how RVP and Falcao are totally ineffective while Rooney does jack all in midfield, there's nothing to lose in putting him back a more natural position. If Rooney didn't have those attacking instincts as a forward (forget speed, forget physical strength), I doubt he would have scored 224 goals so far as a pro. At the same time, a strong message hasm to be sent across to our other highly-paid strikers.

Yeah, definitely wasn't Olympiakos - Mata was cup tied.

Moyes and LVG have generally been afraid of playing a smaller sized team. I guess Fergie didn't care because we had Vidic, Rio, and Carrick in the spine. We'll probably need another strong defender and midfielder before LVG ever tries out a team like that.

Come on Louis, you know that never happens.

Don't let the truth get in the way of Rooney bashers for feck sake!!

They are all getting in each other's way, that's the problem. Rooney, in particular, seems to get in Mata's way in midfield by trying to do his job and both end up being ineffective.

I would like to see this too for the reasons stated above. I think it's the line-up most likely to produce a proper, functioning attacking unit.

I wanted to say this yesterday in the article at no point Van gaal says that Rooney will or should play upfront, he just said that Rooney might not not play upfront in the future.

Our third highest scorer all time as a CDM... Stop it, someone please stop this nonsense!
