Rothen: Di Maria's PSG form affected by poor attitude

Di Maria strikes me as a player who downed tools and hasn't given absolutely everything he has got since being unceremoniously booted out of Madrid.

He wasn't booted. He wanted to be the second highest paid player on the team and nothing else was good enough. He booted himself out.

If by inconsistent you mean he had 5 great games for every bad one, then yes, he was inconsistent at madrid.

The truth is, he was truly inconsistent only in mourinho's final season. The rest of the time he was generally great, and his peak in the first half of 2014 was spectacular.

I would take him back to madrid yesterday. The majority of madridistas would take him back yesterday.

Too bad florentino never liked him, and he made the mistake of standing up to him. As for his lack of commitment at united and now psg, i totally get it: he went from being a star at real madrid to playing for a smaller, less important club that didn't even play the CL to an even smaller, less important club that never meant anything :D

I read that he wants to come back to Madrid. He didn't adapt to France either and probably is again for family reasons.
I also read that might be a move James-PSG and he would go to Inter.
I wouldn't bring him back.Always thought that was a prick, constantly complaining about money.
Ozil also complained but in that case I think his father is who provoked the situation.

The more I read your posts, the more I am unsire of how much you actually follow Madrid.

Let's put some truth into your tabloid rumours.

The truth is at Real Madrid Di Maria was highly inconsistent playing on the wing, he found his true calling and become a truly exceptional player for us being pushed into LCM because of his work rate he became an auxiliary B2B that could supplement the attack as well as help Marcelo in defence. Similar to the way Isco plays for us now.

Now the reason he left was not because Florentino did not like him, we gave him numerous offers for his contract renewal and he refused them all, demanding to be paid on par with Bale, which would of broken our wage structure. The reason why Bale and Ronaldo and a few others get so much is because it is based on image rights obtained by the club and endorsements/sponsorship brought into the club by said player. Business 101. At that stage Di Maria didn't even bother to market himself at all (I still don't think he does, but I may be wrong) so in turn it just is not feasible for us to break our wage structure to pay a Di Maria that much money for no return, from a financial sense. It was a similar reason to why Ozil left.

You don't want to be at Madrid that's fine there's the door, we aren't going to coddle you if you are going to act like a petulant spoiled brat.

Then he went to Man Utd and you know what instead of playing him at CM where he become so brilliant for Real Madrid, he was played on the wing and he was inconsistent and frustrating like he was at Madrid when he was played there. Same same for PSG.

As to him coming back no thank you, most true Madridistas want nothing to do with a player who grabbed his balls to the fans, especially when you consider in his best position we already have Kroos/Kovacic and Isco. We def don't need a Di Maria.

Funny. Was widely regarded as one of the teams best performers in 2010-11(his first season). His second season he missed half of it to injury, but was still quite good when he played. Third season he was inconsistent. Final season was the teams second best player

You belive Florentino's side. I don't. That's where we disagree.

You must have missed the bernabeu's reaction to him coming on in his final game for us in the supercup against atletico. Or the bernabeu's reception from last fall when he came with PSG(was also by far the best player on the pitch that night)

Not exactly true, we played him at CM at first, in fact LvG's formations of choice were a 3-5-2/5-3-2 kind of deal and a 4-1-2-1-2 diamond, neither of which even featured wingers. Until teams were running through us like we had only 10 men, that's when he switched to more common formations, shifted Di Maria to the wing, and Di Maria pretty much downed tools.

Falcao was a loan punt. Hardly a Galactico, a player that played for Porto, pre-good Atlético and Monaco.

Since he's counting Pogba you can count Zlatan and Mkhitaryan and Schweinsteiger.

Dude, Falcao was brought in a Galactico. There are no ifs or buts about this. I don't understand how you can argue this.

Di Maria, Pogba, Ibra, DDG are all Galactico class players, too.
Bastian is on the wane and is not a Galactico. He wasn't good enough to play for Bayern due to lack of fitness, so was sold to MUFC. I doubt he'd get game time for any top team. There is rumour that he would play in the US, which is where players play, when they are in semi-retirement.
Miki - not yet Galactico, though if he has a great season with us, that'll change.

Sanchez does push-ups in between training drills. Di Maria doesn't look like could do a single push-up if he tried.

Since when has doing push-ups, been related to being a good/great footballer?
Generally speaking, the best footballers, tend to be very slim....almost waif-like. Bodybuilders would be out of puff within 10 minutes of starting the match.

It's not, you've missed the point. Otherwise George Elokobi would be the best player going around.

This is what really frustrates me about the whole saga, and worries me about Pogba. If we are going to break the bank for a big player, at least make sure we have a space in the team that will get the best out of him. Dont just shoe-horn him in anywhere.

Agree. I couldn't stand the sight of him. Every time he went to NT gathering he'd talk shit from the far. Always money, money and some more talk about money.
As a footballer he was pure frustration. One game he was playing like Maradonna, the next one like Bruno Cheyrou.
That 3 month stretch at the end of 2013/2014 season was the longest stretch of good form in his entire Real Madrid career and that says it all really. He got what he wanted in the end..

He had some good moments and being honest he had a lot of prominence in the year of la décima but I never saw him as a "galáctico" but a good player with a lot of stamina and perfect for the counter attack style that Mourinho tried.
Besides I think that was well integrated in the dressing room.Recently Marcelo shared a photo having dinner with Ángel's family in Madrid.
I even could admit that he deserved more money but as you said he was tiresome with that issue, sometimes It seemed a constant threat to the club.

Meh, no point taking this any further. You guys are in Florentino's camp. The vast majority of the socios on the other hand, the ones who've seen him live for 4 years, apparently agree with me. The bernabeu gave him a freaking standing ovation when he played there last year with PSG

He was genuinely world class and the best player in a CL-winning season, he deserved a huge pay-rise for that and was instead treated like a second-class player in terms of the financial pyramid, which made his position practically untenable. In effect, he was booted because Madrid had no intention of paying him a true star's fee.

He mightn't be a superstar in terms of image, but on the pitch he was top of the pile and had every right to feel like he was being hard done by.

Marca's article about that game talk about ovation but also about indiference and even whistles when the speaker said his name at the beginning.
Of course he had an ovation. He played 4 years for the club and was very important during his last year.
but also remember him touching his balls looking at the crowd when he was booed in a substitution so I guess that there were differences of opinion among socios.

nevermind what marca said. Of course it wasn't unanimous, it's hard with 80,000 people, and a few of them do believe florentino perez.

Yeah, the whole "acomodo" was blown waaaaay out of proportion. Never seemed a big deal to me. As for the bernabeu booing/whistling real madrid players, duh. We've done it with Di Stefano

The definition of a galactico is being expensive and he was a loan. Nothing was paid for him.

£265,000-a-week is the most widely reported figure United were paying - and with Falcao staying at the club for 37 weeks, the total outlay on wages would have been £9.8m. That means the total outlay on bringing Falcao to Old Trafford was £15.8m.

That's a pretty expensive loan iirc

It's an expensive loan but it's a loan nonetheless.

Serious question, do madridistas actually believe what Marca says all the time? I've read it and the quality is that of a tabloid. I equate it to the Daily Mail.

It depends. Sometimes they create dramas to sell newspapers but other times they are right.

No. Madridistas treat marca in much the same way people in england treat the tabloids

Bouhafsi made a team of the season so far and as per him flop of the season is AdM

He has no bottle for a fight. We needed his quality but, it's no use when the quality has no fight.

Ridiculous mentality, never seen a player with worse body language at OT.

Hope he gets shit presents and that his turkey taste shit.

His judgement is so good I remember once he caught the ball before it went out of the line.

He'll be looking forward to the arrival of Draxler, finally someone that will prevent him being the laziest, most mentally soft player in the squad.

Imagine Draxler on left wing and Di Maria on right wing, both trying to outdo the others
