Russian invasion of Ukraine | Fewer tweets, more discussion

Siloviki*. Soloviki is an interesting combination of that word and Solovki, famous GULAG camp — if you were Russian I'd call it a Freudian slip but it just seems like a curious coincidence.

But yeah, his whole hierarchical system is based on the principle of personal loyalty & most of the guys that have access to him have been close to him for many, many decades. Even someone like Hitler had an internal conflict between the party and the military with him seriously favouring the former (which lead to the most famous coup).

At least it didn't autocorrect to Soulvaki and send me to a nearby Greek restaurant.

It's an acronym:

Russia
and
our
ukrainian
lebensraum

That's an interesting theory. A russian operative that grew up in GDR and moved to the US as a teenager. He was wronged by Putin and pledged to take his revenge.

This is a piss take, right? It has to be.

Not so fast my friend.

The other part that he won't say out loud but I'll speculate Xi/China might also not like, is that I doubt they'd be happy if the world descended into an all-out nuclear war over Ukraine. The only thing worse than a nuclear war is one that isn't even over something you care about.

I initially thought so too, but then listened to the actual interview. It's genuine.
Thanks. It's still crazy!

Seems like somebody's personally offended! I don't think he meant pigeons. They aren't particularly intelligent and hard to train.
Listen, just load me up with breadcrumbs filled with a bioweapon and I'll shit in Putin's mouth. I did it with Ashley Young and I can do it again.

Mariupol is in a terrible, dire situation, according to various news sources. There is little food, virtually no drinking water, the shops and pharmacies are all empty, bodies are being thrown into mass graves and it's freezing cold.

There will be thousands of deaths due to starvation and disease if people aren't able to leave.

There are bizarre tales of attempts to weaponise animals or use them to activate weapons. Humans are fecking nuts.

The Soviets were particularly notorious for throwing mine-carrying dogs against German tanks during WW2. Just fecked up stuff indeed, but that Russian general in particular probably watched The Fifth Wave a few times too many.

Disregarding the whole NATO vs. non-NATO discussion, at what point does the situation become so dire that the West would think about stepping in? The threshold for what is a war crime has surely already been met, of course, and civilians are dying in the thousands.

Or does Putin simply have a free pass to do whatever, because Ukraine is neither NATO nor EU, and he can wave around his nukes as a deterrent?

NATO should just step in, clean up and just say that the Russians are attacking themselves. There is no such thing as a NATO. Putin is imagining things.

All we need to do is get our soldiers to wear one of them limited edition 'Z' t-shirts
