Thought he was brilliant this afternoon, and I honestly think he could be a very shrewd purchase in January to pep up the attack if needed, especially with him not being cup tied in Europe. He's basically everything that Rooney isn't as a 10 and the gulf between the two was embarrassing considering the difference in talent on each of teams.

By no means is he my first choice in such a position, but we would have at worst, a very good squad player who would be adaptable to play in almost every attacking position.

A front 3 of Memphis - Martial - Mane would be very strong and pacey

Troubled our defenders throughout and worked hard for the team too

Threatening player and perhaps worth the purchase indeed.

You could see why we were interested in him. He especially did well in that first 25 minutes, our defence couldn't handle him.

Good player who I thought at the time it was ridiculous the way the caf were treating him when we were rumoured to be after him.

Don't think he's the sort who'd make the step up to a bigger side well.

If the rumours of the interest in the summer are true then surely we should be looking at him again with renewed vigour after this performance? We're crying out for a dribbler who's threat can help to break down these bunker defences that we have an issue with at the moment.

I'll say now what I said back when the rumors came up. Exciting little player who I'd like to have here but we shouldn't have sold Nani if we want him.

Yeah good performance, constantly troublesome. Terrible dive in the second half though. Looked a nailed on penalty in real time I thought, but the replay from behind showed zero contact. Surely it had to either be given as a penalty or a booking for simulation? I don't understand how the referee gives nothing for those?

I think I was in the minority but I really wanted him to come here, exactly what were missing at that time, Memphis, Martial, Mane. The 3Ms would put away the concern about our lack of pace.

We just flogged a very similar sort of player to a Turkish side in Nani. Mane looks like a decent enough player but Southampton only got about 50 minutes out of him today.

Very good performance from his today, Southampton looked dangerous in attack and he was perhaps the key reason for it alongside Pelle.

I wonder if it was the case of martial or mane, not both. Nonetheless he was class today, just as he has been often for them. Memphis martial mane mata

Tbf Nani wouldn't look half as bad as the other players in our attack that aren't called Martial. Sometimes you just need a player that makes the system more effective since it is difficult to have a world beater in every position. If Mane was playing for us today and in midweek we'd probably have put both PSV and Southampton to the sword.
So'ton would obviously expect upwards of 25m for him and our ambitions will demand that we get a player with a much higher ceiling than him, eventually, but that doesn't mean we wouldn't be getting immediate benefits from having him right now, imo.

Looks like one to watch for sure and perhaps a buy isn't out of the question. I don't know how to judge him though. I don't think he looks top quality or anything right now. Loved his energy and athleticism in today's game though.

However it must be said that in this match alone, Rooney as his opposite number made Mane look even better than he was.

Think he'd be a really good addition.

That's exactly my point. The presence of Rooney means that we have no choice but to shoehorn him in for at least the next three years, despite his increasingly dire performances for club and country.
Signing Mane would allow us to have a potentially superior alternative without him expecting to play every week. At the very least he would give us depth in those attacking positions which we currently sorely lack. If he works out, then his admittedly high premium would be worth it. I genuinely struggle to see a downside to him coming in, especially after that performance.

I think he would be a damn good addition to the squad and he has the room to improve further and surprise teams in the future.

₤25 million is silly money but that's the way the market is, especially when you're Manchester United.

Southampton would be expecting it in pounds and that would be the absolute minimum. But looking at the deal West Ham got for Payet I'd rather we try our luck on the continent as there is always a bargain to be found in France and Holland.

He'd give us a great option wide right or in the 10 instead of Rooney/Mata. Exactly the type of player we should be picking up.

I was impressed, as well. Never paid much attention to him before, I admit. Very tricky player to play against it seems, definitely not simply a pace merchant. He's got really quick feet and moves really well with the ball.

I said at the time we made that bid that he would be a good signing but I was one of very few, most seemed embarrassed that we were even linked! As usual, most probably hadn't watched him and will realise I was right in their own time.

Good player, but I think a team like Southampton suits him perfectly.

His all round field performance put Rooney to shame, I wouldn't mind him, at worst he's should be an upgrade on young.

I had no opinion on him before really but he looked bloody good today. Will be interesting to see how this lad develops further!

Would be a great addition in January as - Shaw/Jones aside - we've been fairly lucky with injuries so far compared to previous years

Lose Mata/Memphis and/or Martial and we are very very light

Wed likely be chucking in Pereira/Wilson who haven't played a minute yet

IMO not good enough for us. Would be a good addition for Spurs and Pool tho.

We should better be looking at Reus/Griezmann bracket, not Mane.

He was ok but was aided by Shaw's absence leaving Blind open for Mane to exploit his physical shortcomings. He's not in the same class as Griezmann, watched him for Atletico last night and he is the kind of forward we need to add IMO.

I think he's probably missed the boat for United, Southampton won't sell him in January for reasonable money and by the summer we probably have our eyes on the big names again.

Could totally see City throwing silly money at Southampton for him in January when they inevitably give up on Navas.

Even then, he'd be a great squad player for us if we brought someone in to replace his position, as his pace and dribbling would cause a load of problems for tired defenses who are bunkered in if we brought him on. We need more attacking options, and he'd be a great fit for us.

Played out of his skin today like he had a point to prove over the transfer thing.

Can't see why anyone wouldn't want him really. He's fast as fook, can dribble/beat a man, good crosser, good finisher, is still young and already performing in this league in a position we need to strengthen.

Unless one of the Bale/Reus level players is attainable, which seems unlikely, who'd be a better fit?
