Got boosted. Moderna this time (Pfizer first two). Absolutely banging headache and general drowsiness but otherwise fine. Went for a walk in as my appointment was 29th and was seen in an hour. The queue was long but they were going through them very quickly. Nice to see people of all ages there trying to get their jab.
Had a really bad reaction to 2nd Pfizer- big fever, 10 days of sore swollen lymphnodes - booster has been way better. Just 3 days of soreness and no big fever spike.

I had assumed the same, but my university has now had 18 months of weekly self testing data from thousands of students and found no difference in positivity rates between self-swabs and external ones.

What’s testing capacity like in the Uk? In Ireland the delta surge has us rattling along at a positivity rate of just over 14% with at least a 24 hour wait to get a PCR test. 2 or 3 weeks back you would have had to wait a couple of days in some parts of the country.
If daily cases double or triple from here (which is inevitable?) there’s going to be a serious bottle-neck when it comes to getting tested. I guess we need to plan for how that works. Assume every viral illness is covid and isolate accordingly?

Me and most of my mates turned 40 last year. I'm not normally one for celebrating, but I had plans last year I was looking forward to. Little did I suspect that I'd be postponing it for 2 years at least.
I was looking forward to going and watching this, but it might be the first film I'm bothered about that I'll not go out and see. I'm not sure I can feel comfortable wearing a mask for the best part of 3 hours while surrounded by strangers.

I've been doing my best to steer clear of big shops over these last few months, unless I absolutely need to go in. Popped into the local Co-op this morning to get some dinner on the way to work and was taken aback at just how many people weren't wearing masks. It was a 50-50 split. Fecking mental. Staff weren't wearing them either. No distancing either in the queues, or at least no attempt by people to distance.

In theory I think capacity is about 800k PCR tests per day but actual tests done are below 600k. DIY swabs account for most of those, swabs done by healthcare staff maybe 100/150k per day.

Yes it is. Probably because it’s not made mainstream. I have friends there that say the same thing. Unless you’re not following independent journalists that bring light onto this, it’s hard to know really.

LOLL. I used to think that too years ago. But he’s in fact turned out to be one of the best journalists out there. Sources everything clearly and his short videos are informative and to the point. So yea regardless of what your or anyone’s opinion is of him, doesn’t dispute the accurateness of his content/reporting :]

They are camps where primarily Ozzies returning from abroad are held until quarantine is passed and some occasional examples of outbreak control.
It is also covered in the mainstream media, most notably recently (very late Nov) in relation to the recent Howard Springs camp escape.
Australia, of course, has actual detention camps such as Manus Island and Nauru where people have been treated like shit for years as part of Australia's increasing hostile immigration policy, a model my country's home secretary has disgustingly proposed imitating for years.

Yep. In my honest opinion, these camps are inhumane. Leave it to a certain nations to think they’re better than the rest of the world. It’s all in the name of safety and people’s best interest but it’s just a piss take if you ask a lot of folks. Most Australian’s are against these camps but they can’t do much as they were implemented without their consent (*hint hint, ramifications sound oddly familiar with a lot of other things). It’s also not just for returning citizens, they can and have arbitrarily picked and chosen anyone that’s been residing there. Regardless of if they have covid or were a close contact or even for “quarantining” for people who’ve come from abroad even if their covid tests show up as negative.
When they made the camps, like everything that’s marketed they showed it out to be a beautiful place. Reality is, it’s gloomy and literal cage for humans which their basic rights are stripped for no good reason. Places like the US will never have this because the people would fight before bowing down to such measures. It’s all really insane. So much ridiculousness. Zero morals or ethics.

Ya, Beta was really rough here. It would’ve ripped through everywhere very quickly - mass scale of what we saw early on in Italy I think (those pictures and videos are still harrowing over 18 months later). Honestly these vaccines are probably humanity’s greatest work of all time - not sure what comes close?

I guess a credentialed-wrong is more accurate than an uncredentialed-right with your logic.
